  • LISTENING TO AN ACOUSTIC LANDSCAPE IN JOSÉ DONOSO'S CHRONICLES

: This study focuses on a selection of chronicles by José Donoso published at the beginning of the 1980s. Without totally ignoring the ocular order, these works evince the enunciation of an urban landscape that critically adopts an acoustic figuration. The city of Santiago, as a visible referent, awakes fantasies in a hearing disposition that emphasizes aural images as well as the chronicler's literary imagination.

  • BETWEEN TRADITION AND INTEGRATION: RÉQUIEM PARA UN VIERNES A LA NOCHE BY
GERMÁN ROZENMACHER AND ITS PREMIERE AT THE IFT TEATER

: In this essay, we will discuss the premiere of Germán Rozenmacher's Réquiem para un viernes a la noche at the IFT theatre (Idisher Folks Teater, Jewish Popular Theater) in 1964. We argue that it is not only an emblematic work of Jewish Argentinian Dramaturgy, but a premiere that reveals a change of orientation in the IFT, as it expresses a turn in the concerns of its members who sought to have a greater arrival to the spectators of the new generation, as well as to the non-Jewish public. This objective had already led them from 1957 to begin to realize their works in Castilian, when until then they were realized only in Yiddish. This was in response to the IFT's desire to achieve greater integration in both Argentine society and the independent theater movement. And in this sense, we consider the premiere of the first work of Rozenmacher - a young author who gave voice to the concerns of the new generation in portraying the generational conflict and the clash between two opposing ways of being Jewish and Argentine - as a moment culminate of this process, in which we inquire.

  • ANTAGONISM AND SORORITY IN TWO SHORT STORIES OF THE HISPANIC CARIBBEAN

: In this paper, the relationship between the female characters of the short stories "Cuando las mujeres quieren a los hombres" (Rosario Ferré) and "Las fiebres del Miramar" (Marvel Moreno) is studied regarding the factors conforming their identities (race, class and gender). I propose two interpretations: first, there is a confrontation between these characters, consequence of masculinist hegemonic thought according to which they have fix identities: wives or lovers; second, the interaction between them can be seen as a progress in their emancipation and in the construction of subjectivities not responding blindly to the impositions of heteronormativity.

  • COBRA NORATO, MACUNAÍMA AND INDIGENOUS TALES

: Macunaíma by Mário de Andrade and Cobra Norato by Raul Bopp are landmarks in Brazilian modernist literature. Their authors followed an opposite path to that of European explorers and naturalists who copied tales from the forest and translated them to the languages of their countries of origin. They highlighted the national character of these stories told by indigenous people. In this article, I correlate this modernist imaginary with native narratives that, currently, present updated versions of indigenous tales, whose protagonists are problematic heroes associated with ethnical processes alike. During ethnographic fieldwork, I have heard, in fact, statements deriving from these narratives. The narrators associate their heroes' adventures with facts of their everyday lives. Such stories are recurrent in different areas of native Amazon, either in the heart of indigenous cultures or Brazilian afro-descendant communities.

  • AN ANALYSIS OF THE ROLE OF HUMOR IN GRACIELA HUINAO'S NARRATIVE

: This essay explore the different manifestations and functions humor adopts in three books by Graciela Huinao: La nieta del brujo (2014 [2003]), Desde el fogón de una casa de putas williche (2010), and Katrilef, hija de un ulmen williche (2015). Within the prolific and necessary writing by Mapuche authors, Huinao's work is distinctly characterized by the use of humor as a key element of her larger poetical body of work. Humor is an essential part in the healing process of her people's soul wounded by war, and the forms it adopts are so diverse and complex which take us to themes and literary forms from diverse times, which controversially coexist nurturing the current intercultural Chilean-Mapuche literary imaginary.
