  • An accident prevention model: case application in a small-scale wood
           workshop of a developing country

    • Authors: Ozichukwu OSAKWE; et al.
      Pages: 1 - 17
Abstract: Majority of processing activities in small-scale wood workshops substantially generate hazards, which trigger accidents, injuries and possibly death. To prevent these calamities, a new accident prevention model is proposed based on barriers (human shields) that safeguard the human body from attacks and damages. The effectiveness of creating and optimizing these barriers, using principal barriers for skin, organs (internal and external), bone and fatigue is presented. The predicted rate of accident occurrence ranged from 0 (best) to 0.4587 (worst) accident per period. The percentage rate of occurrence varied from 0 (best) to 26.85 (worst) accident percentages per period. The bone injury prevention barrier involving factors of trips, slips, contact with moving machine parts, and contacts with rollers yielded a range of values from 0.2635 to 0.4255. Results showed that a high percentage (almost 50%) of the probable accidents would be classified under external organ injury prevention barrier. Results further showed that EOIPB is a first degree accident. This implies that the wood workshop has a high degree of uncertainty in terms of predicting when and what type of accident is likely to occur. The main novelty of this contribution is the unique integration of barrier factors with the fault tree analysis and being able to optimise than using Lagrange’s multiplier. The methodology serves as an effective tool to identify influential accident causative factors, on a preventive basis, before any accident occurs. It can be appropriately applied in other processes, such as manufacturing with some practical utility to the safety coordinator.

  • Efficiency of double cut alternative tapping system to improve latex
productivity of rubber tree clone RRIT251 in marginal area, Thailand

    • Authors: Sophea Nhean; et al.
      Pages: 1 - 6
Abstract: This investigation aims to optimize an appropriate tapping system for rubber production management in northeast area, Thailand. The study was conducted in rubber clone RRIT 251 plantation of farmer located in Khen Dong district, Buriram province during May 2014 to February 2016. The trees were planted in 2007 and the tapping was started in July 2014. The experimental designed was randomized completed block design (RCBD) with 3 replications comprised 2 treatments; conventional tapping system (farmer’s method, S/3 d2) as control and double cut alternative tapping system (DCA, 2 x S/3 d2). The results displayed that DCA was able to increase latex yield about 14 % compared to Farmer’s method, but DCA decreased the trunk girth increment. Moreover, the percentage of total solid content (TSC) of Farmer’s method was significantly higher than DCA. The bark consumption was not significant difference in both tapping. Briefly, DCA had a potential to improve latex productivity in northeast Thailand.

  • Selection of bioinoculants for tomato growth enhancement and pathogen
           resistance

    • Authors: Kedsukon Maneewan; et al.
      Pages: 1 - 7
      Abstract:
Bioinoculants were selected based on their ability to produce chitinase solubilize phosphate and demonstrate antifungal activity both on agar medium and in a quantitative assay in broth medium. It was demonstrated that Serratia marcescens and Bacillus licheniformis exhibited these attributes in significantly (P<0.1) greater amounts than other strains tested. The effects of S. marcescens, B. licheniformis and a mixed culture of S. marcescens and B. licheniformis on seed germination of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Seeda) were evaluated in in vitro culture. S. marcescens and the mixed culture showed a significantly (P<0.01) higher percentage of seed germination, and greater height and weight of seedlings than those recorded when using B. licheniformis or the control (no bioinoculant). S. marcescens and the mixed culture were also studied for their effects on growth and pathogen resistance of tomato in pot culture under field conditions. The results demonstrated that both of these bioinoculants significantly (P>0.01) increased fresh and dry weights and the height of tomato when compared with the control. Upon infestation of tomatoes with the pathogenic fungus Fusarium solani, both bioinoculants significantly (P<0.1) increased the resistance of tomato to the pathogen. It was clear that bioinoculants could enhance growth and pathogen resistance of tomato under field conditions as well as under in vitro culture.

  • Manual WheelchairLongevity and Related Factors among Spinal Cord Lesion
           Patients

    • Authors: Panya Ngamwongsa-nguan; et al.
      Pages: 1 - 6
Abstract: The wheelchair is an essential mobility tool for paraplegic or tetraplegic patients.  The wheelchair longevity and related factors among spinal cord lesion patients in Thailand has not been reported.  The objectives of the current study were to determine the longevity of manual wheelchairs and the related factors amongspinal cord lesion patients. Spinal cord lesion patients who received treatment at the In-and/or Out-patient Rehabilitation Medicine Department were interviewed for demographic data and factors related to wheelchair use.  Data were analyzed for means, medians, and negative and positive factors related to wheelchair usage and life expectancy. Sixty patients were included in the study. The respective mean and median manual wheelchair lifetime was 4 years and 4 months (52.3 ± 28.7 months) and 4 years. Most participants required their first wheelchair repair within the first 2 years.  Survival analysis revealed that after 4 years of use, 50% of wheelchairs were still functioning.  The negative factor significantly affecting lifetime was navigating the wheelchair on a lawn (p = 0.003) while the positive factor was navigating on smooth concrete (p = 0.006). Participants who navigated the wheelchair on a lawn surface had greater chance of getting early wheelchair replacement.

  • Even Door Problem

    • Authors: Yuttana Ratibenyakool; et al.
      Pages: 1 - 5
Abstract: There are several methods of estimation. In this research, we adjusted some conditions base on the research of Alberto Zorzi [1]. The number of doors has been changed into an even number as well as increased the number of cars. Due to this adjustment, the winning probability of the player will be double when the number of doors is even and there are two cars hidden inside, compare with the situation that the number of doors is even and there is one car hidden inside. If the number of doors is even and there are 3 cars or more, we will not be able to play this game with the same strategy anymore. Moreover, this research demonstrates the relationship between the probabilities to win the game with the value of that is the player can estimate the value of by playing game repeatedly with the best strategy.

  • Anomaly Detection in Crowd Scene Using Interaction Force Model

    • Authors: Chonthisa Wateosot; et al.
      Pages: 1 - 8
Abstract: Abnormal detection in crowded scene is an important issue in computer vision. Many researches have studied and tried to define the phenomena of crowd behavior. In this paper we introduce a novel social-based method for detecting abnormal events in crowded scenes, called Interaction Energy Force. The method is designed for low level features without object extraction and tracking. The force modeling based on optical flow fields and its interactions are defined by an energy force inspiring the energy propagation phenomena that depend on directions and velocities. An energy map is designed to represent the interaction forces corresponding to events, where the abnormal events are detected using a thresholding method. Our method is evaluated with the well-known UMN dataset. The results show the efficiency of our approach with high accuracy, regardless of various conditions. It is a technique competitive with the state-of-the-art methods.

  • Rectangular Layer Model for Profile-based Human Action Recognition Using
           Multi-view Depth Information

    • Authors: Pongsagorn Chalearnnetkul; et al.
      Pages: 1 - 6
Abstract: Human action recognition is a fundamental step for understanding complex activities or behaviors, especially for video surveillance and health-care applications. In this paper we introduce a profile-based human action recognition from multi-view cameras using RGB-D information through the Rectangular Layer Model (RLM). Our model tends to improve the performance when the perspective distortion or the lack of information occurs due to the single-view approach. The fusion model is tested for five basic actions: walking and standing, sitting, bending, and laying, at different perspective viewpoints. The system can perform at 28.99 fps while its overall precision is significant at about 92.25%.

  • Comparing the Effect of Different Smartphone on the Accuracy of Wi-Fi
Based Proximity Estimation Approaches in an Outdoor Setting

    • Authors: Tuul Triyason; et al.
      Pages: 1 - 10
Abstract: Proximity estimation is a task that estimates the distance between a reference point and a selected object.  Proximity estimation allows the possibility of creating applications that are based on proximity from the reference point. With the increased penetration of smartphone with multiple sensors, it is possible to utilize one of the many built-in sensors for proximity estimation such as Global Positioning System (GPS), Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE), and Wi-Fi approaches in proximity estimation.  The paper explores the approaches before expanding on utilization of Wi-Fi approaches to proximity estimation in a practical outdoor field test on multiple smartphone and mobile devices to examine the suitability and issues that may arise when utilizing the approach.

  • Evaluation of Carbon Dioxide Absorbed in Para Rubber Biomass to the
Valuation of the Contracts on Carbon Credits in Voluntary Markets.

    • Authors: Haritsalak Viriya
      Pages: 1 - 8
Abstract: Prospective imbalances between supply and demand have been indicated in the rubber market resulting in a continuous plunge in rubber prices. The highest average price in 2011 to lowest average price in 2014, has dropped 54.84 percent due to direct impact on the costs of rubber planters especially new area of para rubber plantation such as Huai Thalaeng District in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. There is the possibility of the offset prices in rubber plantations by evaluation of carbon dioxide absorbed in para rubber to the valuation of the contract on carbon credits in voluntary markets. Carbon Storage in Para Rubber Biomass was assessed in the equations of biomass allometric to determine the carbon dioxide was absorbed from the atmosphere.
The results of the study found that rubber plantations through seven years before latex tapping with biomass accumulation in the average of 0.027, 0.200, 0.641, 1.454, 3.343, 8.078 and 15.213 Mg ha-1respectively. While, average carbon storage in biomass at 0.014, 0.099, 0.321, 0.727, 1.671, 4.039 and 7.607 Mg ha-1, respectively. Furthermore, the carbon dioxide was absorbed from the atmosphere in the average of 0.051, 0.363, 1.177, 2.666, 6.127, 14.810 and 27.892 Mg ha-1, respectively. Subsequently, the net income from contracts equal to 578.637 US$ ha-1 from the carbon dioxide was absorbed from the atmosphere in case of trading of carbon credit sin the voluntary market. In addition, rubber tree is an essential tree species that absorbed carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and stored in its biomass. With this, rubber plantation can act as carbon sink. Therefore, Thailand, especially Huai Thalaeng has potential for rubber plantation and mitigated greenhouse gases in the atmosphere through carbon trapping of rubber plantations.
