  • Production of silver nanoparticles by green synthesis using artichoke (
           Cynara scolymus L.) aqueous extract and measurement of their electrical
           conductivity

      Abstract: This work reports the production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by a green method using, for the first time, an extract of artichoke ( Cynara scolymus L.), and we explore their electrical properties with the aim of using, for the first time, totally green AgNPs on the preparation of highly conductive inks. The ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis) studies monitored the surface plasmon resonance phenomenon of green-synthesized silver nanoparticles. Biomolecules of Cynara scolymus L. (CS) extract flower were suggested to be responsible for reducing and capping of AgNPs, by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) measurements. Elemental analysis was determined by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Transmission electron microscopy analysis showed nearly spherical silver nanoparticles surrounded and connected by CS extract material with size varying from 30–80 nm.       Abstract: In the current research of bacteriology, the biofilm infections are becoming serious issues. The biofilm has potential resistant towards antibiotics, even at higher concentration, due to the protective covering that enable unavailability of these antibiotics towards bacteria residing inside. Thus to combat these problems, biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) of spherical shape were synthesized having potential against biofilm forming bacteria. Although these wastes contain valuable minerals, their use is not widespread.   • Nano-structured metal oxides: synthesis, characterization and application
           for multifunctional cotton fabric

      Abstract: Zinc oxide (ZnO) and titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared from their salts in form of aqueous suspensions to provide multifunctional cellulosic substrate. ZnO-NPs and TiO 2 -NPs are obtained in the range of 3–5 nm and 8–15 nm, respectively. Prepared suspensions are loaded onto knitted cotton fabrics and fixed using reactive softener and/or citric acid. Antimicrobial activity, ultraviolet protection (UPF) and self-cleaning in respect to metal oxides add-on to the fabrics are investigated. Fabrics treated with ZnO-NPs for 10 g l −1 (white fabrics) and 5 g l −1 (dyed fabrics) were cidal for both gram negative and positive bacteria. Using 5 g l −1 TiO 2 -NPs in the presence of reactive softener has a bacteriostatic effect and showed a decent bacteria reduction.   • Impact of structural process variation on junctionless silicon nanotube
           FET

      Abstract: In this paper, the impact of process variation on the performance parameters of junctionless silicon nanotube field effect transistor (JLSiNT-FET) is studied using 3D numerical simulations. The performance metrics, ON current, OFF current, and unity gain frequency are taken for different physical factors. Sensitivity of the physical factors is computed over a range at various points. The ranking of the structural parameters for various performance metrics is done using a two level full factorial design of experiment method. Overall ranking proposes that the outer diameter of the silicon tube is the most sensitive parameter and inner diameter of the silicon tube is the least sensitive parameter.

      Abstract: The conditions for the synthesis of zinc, copper and iron oxides nanostructures using plasma nanosecond high-current discharge in air when introducing electrodes material vapor into a plasma due ectonic mechanism and the main parameters of the plasma are investigated. It is shown that this discharge can be used for the synthesis of nanoparticles of transition metal oxides on a dielectric substrate. Optical characteristics of nanostructures are given.

      Abstract: Diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia and is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke and is also responsible for lower limb amputation. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory efficacy of silver nanoparticles synthesized from brown alga, Sargassum wightii . The synthesized silver nanoparticles revealed spherical morphology with the size range of 18.45–41.59 nm. The green synthesized sliver nanoparticles of S. wightii were characterized through UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, zeta potential and by dynamic light scattering method.   • Bacterial adherence on 5, 10 and 15 nm nanosilver-impregnated guided
           tissue regeneration membranes: an in vitro study

      Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the bacterial adherence on 5, 10 and 15 nm nanosilver-impregnated resorbable guided tissue regeneration (GTR) membranes. GTR membranes were incorporated with 5 (NS-GTR-5), 10 (NS-GTR-10), and 15 nm (NS-GTR-15) nanosilver in the test group. The control group contained GTR membranes incorporated with 25% metronidazole (M-GTR) and plain membranes (GTR-C). Qualitative evaluation of microbial adherence to the GTR membranes was performed using four organisms- Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis , and Streptococcus mutans- since these organisms are reported to have strong adherent capabilities to collagen membranes.   • The role of Carica papaya latex and aluminum oxide on the formation of
           carbon nanofibre made of coconut shell

      Abstract: This research examines the role of bio-activator, papaya latex in the synthesis of nanoporous carbon fibre made of the coal of coconut shell with aluminum oxide. The porous carbon was generated from coal activated by the papaya latex at the temperature of ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/images/2043-6262/9/3/035021/ansnaad1a9ieqn001.gif] for 4 h. The high energy milling (HEM) process up to 600 thousand cycles was applied to the porous carbon added with a precursor of aluminum oxide. The size and morphology of the particle are analyzed using SEM and TEM while the molecular group and the particle crystallization are analyzed with FTIR and XRD. The results show that papaya latex plays an effective role in breaking down the oxygen atoms in carbonyl group on the surface of carbon particle and in aluminum oxide.
