      Abstract: Targeting the tumor tissues in oncotherapeutics is attracting more attention worldwide for the past three decades. The exigent need to reduce the side effects of the drugs presses the need for the advancements in the targeting therapies and better alternative to the conventional chemotherapies. The effective bio compatible bioactive compounds that are appropriate substitutes to the conventional anti-cancer drugs face the difficulty in being transported across the cell membrane as they are hydrophilic. In this article the nano vesicular drug delivery system, one of the well-received approaches for targeted drug delivery is reviewed, more specifically the phytosomes. Phytosomes are the unique class of vesicular drug delivery systems that carry the plant derived bio active compounds across the cell membrane.       Abstract: Curcumin, well-known polyphenol drug shows great promise as a therapeutic agent. However, a major concern for this molecule is its low bioavailability. We have recently reported the use of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) to enhance curcumin bioavailability significantly. In the present work, we investigated anti-inflammatory effects of the curcumin-MSN and related side effects caused to the gastrointestinal tract and kidney, compared with curcumin and diclofenac sodium. The anti-inflammatory effect tests were performed by induction of carrageenan in Wistar rat feet. Ulcerogenic observations were performed macroscopically and microscopically. Kidney histopathology were performed on the average number of necrotic cells of the proximal tubule and distal tubules.   • Tunable platforms by coupling gold nanorectangles and pNIPAM for
           surface-enhanced Raman scattering

      Abstract: This paper describes a new plasmonic platform made of lithographic gold nanorectangles array coated by a thermosensitive polymer layer poly( ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/images/2043-6262/9/3/035013/ansnaad5d6ieqn001.gif] isopropylacrylamide). This polymer layer responds to temperature variations by conformational changes and is therefore able to vary the distance between the gold surface and the molecular probes. Hence, this stimulable substrate can be used as a tunable device for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) using Nile blue A as a molecular probe. We show that an increase of the external temperature reversibly induces a significant enhancement of the Nile blue A SERS signal. This was attributed to a stronger interaction between the gold nanorectangles and Nile blue A. The thermosensitive plasmonic devices developed in this paper thus provide a dynamic SERS platform for sensing application.

  • Nano-structured metal oxides: synthesis, characterization and application
           for multifunctional cotton fabric

      Abstract: Zinc oxide (ZnO) and titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared from their salts in form of aqueous suspensions to provide multifunctional cellulosic substrate. ZnO-NPs and TiO 2 -NPs are obtained in the range of 3–5 nm and 8–15 nm, respectively. Prepared suspensions are loaded onto knitted cotton fabrics and fixed using reactive softener and/or citric acid. Antimicrobial activity, ultraviolet protection (UPF) and self-cleaning in respect to metal oxides add-on to the fabrics are investigated. Fabrics treated with ZnO-NPs for 10 g l −1 (white fabrics) and 5 g l −1 (dyed fabrics) were cidal for both gram negative and positive bacteria. Using 5 g l −1 TiO 2 -NPs in the presence of reactive softener has a bacteriostatic effect and showed a decent bacteria reduction.   • Impact of structural process variation on junctionless silicon nanotube
           FET

      Abstract: In this paper, the impact of process variation on the performance parameters of junctionless silicon nanotube field effect transistor (JLSiNT-FET) is studied using 3D numerical simulations. The performance metrics, ON current, OFF current, and unity gain frequency are taken for different physical factors. Sensitivity of the physical factors is computed over a range at various points. The ranking of the structural parameters for various performance metrics is done using a two level full factorial design of experiment method. Overall ranking proposes that the outer diameter of the silicon tube is the most sensitive parameter and inner diameter of the silicon tube is the least sensitive parameter.

      Abstract: The conditions for the synthesis of zinc, copper and iron oxides nanostructures using plasma nanosecond high-current discharge in air when introducing electrodes material vapor into a plasma due ectonic mechanism and the main parameters of the plasma are investigated. It is shown that this discharge can be used for the synthesis of nanoparticles of transition metal oxides on a dielectric substrate. Optical characteristics of nanostructures are given.

      Abstract: With the consumption of energy throughout the world that is continually increasing and with continuous decreasing of the main sources of world’s energy, such as fossil fuels, using green and renewable energies such as wind and sun seems necessary. Solar cells are the main devices to convert the solar energy into electricity. Among different types of solar cells, dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) that are types of nanostructured solar cells have been the subject of a lot of ongoing investigations due to low construction costs and other benefits. In this study, the role that Au metal nanoparticles (NPs) play in improving the efficiency of DSSCs is studied. DSSCs were fabricated by using red tea as a natural dye sensitizer. The Au NPs were synthesized and functionalized with carboxyl group and then were used in the photoanode of the fabricated DSSCs.       Abstract: In the present work, nanostructured ZnO doped with ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/images/2043-6262/9/3/035018/ansnaadc6bieqn001.gif] (2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/images/2043-6262/9/3/035018/ansnaadc6bieqn002.gif] ) is prepared by conventional solid state reaction method.
