  • Hydroxyapatite for Filling Bone Tissue Defects
    • Authors: A. T. Teleshev; V. N. Gorshenev; M. A. Yakovleva; V. A. Fomichev; R. S. Fadeev; V. V. Minaychev; V. S. Akatov
      Pages: 19 - 22
Abstract: Hydroxyapatite was synthesized in conditions of mechanoacoustic treatment of an aqueous reaction mixture consisting of ammonium hydrogen phosphate and calcium nitrate using a commercially available rotary pulsation apparatus. Mechanoacoustic treatment of the reaction mixture was found to lead to the formation of nanosized hydroxyapatite particles with a predominant mean diameter of about 20 nm. Purification of technical hydroxyapatite to remove traces of ammonium nitrate by thermal processing at 350°C is proposed. The crystalline phase of hydroxyapatite was found not to be dominant in the structure. The porosity of hydroxyapatite amounted to about 75% with a mean pore diameter of 2.8 × 103 nm. Thermal processing of hydroxyapatite in aqueous medium was found to yield a paste-like form. Hydroxyapatite paste had no cytotoxicity and did not prevent cell adhesion, though it almost completely inhibited cell spreading.

  • Biocompatible Nanomaterial for Restoration of Continuity of Dissected
           Biological Tissues
    • Authors: I. B. Rimshan; N. N. Zhurbina; U. E. Kurilova; D. I. Ryabkin; A. Yu. Gerasimenko
      Pages: 23 - 26
Abstract: A technology for manufacturing biocompatible nanomaterials for laser restoration of the continuity of dissected fragments of biological tissue (cattle trachea) was described. The tensile strength of laser welds obtained by laser irradiation of biocompatible nanomaterial deposited on the edges of dissected tissues was studied. The maximum tensile strength of laser welds of ~0.196 MPa was achieved using a biocompatible nanomaterial consisting of albumin (25 wt. %), collagen (1 wt. %), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (1 wt. %), and the indocyanine green dye (0.1 wt. %). The biocompatibility of the nanomaterial was studied using the MTT assay. The biocompatible nanomaterial exerted the best effect on the proliferative activity of cells when diluted in the culture medium to concentrations of 1/10, 1/20, 1/160 and 1/320.

  • Laser Shock-Wave Destruction as an Effective Method of Treatment of
           Pathological Integumentary Tissues
    • Authors: S. V. Belov; Yu. K. Danyleiko; V. V. Ezhov; V. V. Osiko; E. G. Osmanov; V. A. Salyuk
      Pages: 27 - 30
Abstract: The article describes a new method of treatment of pathological integumentary tissues by controlled shock-wave destruction. The controlled destruction is achieved by micro-explosions of finely dispersed particles applied to the pathological tissue surface and exposed to laser radiation. The method is implemented using laser radiation within the transparency range of biological tissues (0.6-1.1 μm) and a suspension of particles absorbing laser radiation in this range. Thermochemical reaction in the exposure zone leads to release of thermal and mechanical energy and results in destruction of biological tissues precisely in the area of application of the laser absorbing suspension. The mechanism of the shock wave effect combines several factors, including the prevailing acousto-mechanical component leading to radical explosive destruction of the superficial structures of tissues. An important distinctive feature of the method is that it allows the depth of the shock-wave effect to be controlled by varying the radiation intensity. In contrast to the well-known laser-based methods, the method suggested in this work allows the depth of the shock-wave effect to be decreased by increasing the laser radiation intensity.

           Magnification
    • Authors: D. Yu. Sosnin; L. S. Onyanova; O. G. Kubarev; E. V. Kozonogova
      Pages: 31 - 36
Abstract: Development of blood smear scanner analyzers is a new promising trend in designing devices for blood cell morphology examination. The efficacy of using the Vision Hema® Ultimate scanner analyzer for differential white blood cell count and identification of nucleated blood cells was evaluated. The average time required to analyze a single cover-glass preparation was found to be (108 ± 17)″. There was no statistically significant difference between the results of differential white blood cell count performed manually and using the Vision Hema® Ultimate device (p > 0.05); the results were virtually identical. The Spearman’s correlation coefficient was highest for segmented neutrophils, lymphocytes and eosinophils (0.9638%, 0.9342%, and 0.9172%, respectively). For monocytes and basophils it was 0.9047% and 0.7613%, respectively, while its lowest values were observed for immature myeloid cells. The Vision Hema® Ultimate blood smear scanner analyzer was shown to provide high accuracy and productivity of differential white blood cell count in peripheral blood smears.

    • Authors: A. Yu. Gerasimenko; Yu. O. Fedorova; P. N. Vasilevsky; A. A. Polokhin; M. S. Savelyev; V. M. Podgaetsky
      Pages: 46 - 50
Abstract: Aqueous dispersed media and films based on edible or succinate chitosan with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were manufactured. Infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy were used to study the structural changes associated with formation of intermolecular junctions between chitosan and SWCNT. Nonlinear optical characteristics of liquid samples exposed to pulsed laser radiation of nanosecond duration were determined experimentally and calculated theoretically. The composition of the medium based on succinate chitosan and SWCNT providing the largest nonlinear absorption coefficient (902 cm/GW) was determined. The sample with this composition had lower threshold radiation intensity (2.7 MW/cm2), at which nonlinear effects are generated in the medium and liquid-to-solid transition occurs. The results obtained in this work are useful for laser-based production of three-dimensional cellular and tissue-engineered structures used in cardiovascular surgery.

  • An Algorithm for Detection of Atrial Fibrillation Episodes and Generation
of Alarm Signals Used in a Cardiac Rhythm Remote Monitoring System
    • Authors: T. T. Nguyen; Z. M. Yuldashev
      Pages: 51 - 55
Abstract: An algorithm for generation of alarm signals in case of detection of episodes of atrial fibrillation is discussed. The algorithm is used in the system for remote monitoring of patients with atrial fibrillation. A set of diagnostically significant values characterizing the dynamics of patient’s condition during atrial fibrillation episodes is suggested. Application of this set of diagnostically significant values should increase the efficiency of detection of atrial fibrillation episodes. Histograms of the duration distribution of atrial fibrillation episodes are suggested to be used for treatment efficacy monitoring.

Abstract: This article describes the determination of potassium anomalous rectifying currents by analysis of electrical cardiac signals in reverse electrocardiography. Contemporary cardiodiagnostic systems include algorithms and methods for noninvasive investigation of the electrophysiological properties of the heart. Comparative data are presented on the determination of potassium anomalous rectifying currents by an electrophysiological method; we propose a noninvasive method for analysis of the electrical cardiac signal.

    • Authors: E. E. Achkasov; A. V. Esipov; A. V. Pekshev; V. A. Musailov
      Pages: 64 - 67
Abstract: The Plazon device is a generator of exogenous nitric oxide. Endogenous nitric oxide has an antimicrobial effect; it stimulates macrophages and induction of cytokines, T-lymphocytes, and a number of immunoglobulins. It also has cytotoxic or cytoprotective properties depending on the conditions. The Plazon device proved its high clinical and economic effectiveness for treatment of peritonitis caused by diseases and injuries of the upper urinary tract.

Abstract: This report discusses the employment of the electrical characteristics of biologically active points (BAP) in the meridian of the heart to solve the task of prognosticating recurrence of myocardial infarctions during the rehabilitation period using fuzzy decision rules. Employment of only the electrical characteristics of informative BAP was found to provide a reliability level of greater than 0.85 in decision-making, with a significant uncertainty zone. If additional features characterizing long-term psychoemotional tension − lipid peroxidation and antioxidant activity − are included, the reliability of prognoses of recurrence of myocardial infarction during remission reaches 0.95.

  • Chemiresistive Sensors for Thrombin Assay Based on Nanosize Carbon
           Nanotube Films on Flexible Supports
    • Authors: I. A. Komarov; E. N. Rubtsova; A. S. Lapashina; A. V. Golovin; I. I. Bobrinetskiy
      Pages: 377 - 380
Abstract: We present here results obtained during the developmental construction of a selective biological sensor based on carbon nanotubes chemically modified with specific aptamers. The sensory layer, consisting of a film of carbon nanotubes, on a flexible polymer substrate, provides high sensitivity for assay of the target proteins. The responses of the sensory structures to the target protein − thrombin and a reference protein, albumin − were studied. Selective estimation of thrombin after exposure of the sensor to albumin was demonstrated.

  • An Adaptive Algorithm for Machine Perfusion of Isolated Donor Liver
    • Authors: N. A. Gryaznov; V. V. Kharlamov; Ya. A. Gataulin; A. D. Yukhnev; A. V. Shumilov; S. A. Nikitin; K. Yu. Senchik; O. N. Reznik; A. E. Skvortsov
      Pages: 401 - 406
Abstract: A hardware and software system for donor liver perfusion is described. Both standard and adaptive algorithms for perfusion control in the process of liver function restoration are described. The adaptive algorithm is based on a mathematical model of machine perfusion. It provides complete perfusion and allows blood cell injuries that often accompany the standard perfusion procedure to be avoided.

Abstract: A test bench for performance validation of an artificial pancreas system is described. The test bench allows simulating an increase or a decrease in blood glucose by automated mixing of glucose-containing test solution. It also provides validation of the blood glucose prediction algorithm. The test bench consists of an electrical subsystem and a hydraulic subsystem that are controlled from PC user interface. It provides blood glucose measurement and prediction with an error of <5% and the accuracy of insulin dosing of 0.05 μL.

  • Aqueous Suspension for Laser Controlled Shock Wave Treatment of Skin and
           Mucous Membranes
    • Authors: S. V. Belov; Yu. K. Danyleiko; V. V. Osiko; V. A. Salyuk
      Pages: 437 - 440
Abstract: The article describes an aqueous suspension of activated carbon particles containing unbound water used for treatment of dystrophic gynecological diseases. The treatment is based on the method of controlled shock wave destruction of pathological tissues using laser radiation poorly absorbed by the tissues. A technology for saturating internal micropores of activated carbon particles with unbound water and preparing the aqueous suspension is described. The results of histological in vitro studies of the zone of necrosis caused by exposure of model biological objects (mucous membrane of miniature pig vagina) to shock waves are presented. It is shown that the thickness of the necrosis zone decreases with increasing intensity of laser radiation.
