           through Student Service Learning

    • Authors: Anna Fatchiya, . Jakaria
      Pages: 109 - 117
Abstract: Community empowerment activities of breeders by Bogor Agricultural University students in the form of Student Service Learning (CSP) in Lebak District is intended to improve their empowerment. In particular the purpose of CSP is to identify the potency and problems faced by breeders, to carry out community empowerment activities of breeders, and to analyze the impact of these activities. Activity methods include identification of potentials and problems, discussions, practices, and simulations. The results of this empowerment activity shows that the potential of livestock that can be developed in Lebak Regency is cattle, buffalo, goat, and chicken. But the obstacle is the knowledge of breeders on the management of livestock raising is still low, especially in the prevention of livestock disease, appropriate feeding, livestock waste management, and livestock processing. Implementation of community empowerment activities based on the results of identification process of potential and problems. Furthermore, it is done by using various methods, in the form of lectures, discussions and practices. The objective of the activity also focus to management as a whole and extends to the young generation and housewives, such as livestock education for school age children and livestock processing (nugget) for women. • Dry Octopus and Marine Worms Processing Business Development in Matwair
           Village, West Kei Kecil Subdistrict

    • Authors: Daniel Ngabalin, Eygner Gerald Talakua, Frischilla Pentury
      Pages: 118 - 124
Abstract: The purpose of this activity was to establish and develop a processing business for octopus (Octopus sp) and dried sea worms (kian) at Ohoi Matwair. There are two important aspects to starting and developing this business, namely the aspects of production and management. In the aspect of priority production, the problem faced is the drying technique of octopus and traditional sea worms, drying tools and equipment used in processing simple octopus and sea worms, the shape and quality of packaging products for drying octopus and unhygienic sea worms. While the problems related to business management are capital management and production efforts of drying octopus and sea worms that have not been maximized, recording business activities of drying octopus and sea worms has not been done properly, and how to sell or market dried octopus and sea worm products that have not been done well. Through the PRA approach method or participatory rural appraisal as well as three methods in fishery counseling namely lectures, demonstrations and training, the IbM program activities are carried out as a solution to solve the priority problems faced by partners. The amount achieved is 1) Transfer of science and technology from the service team to partners; 2) There has been an increase in partner knowledge about octopus and dry sea worm processing businesses by 38.7%; 3) There are 25 products of octopus and dry sea worms; 4) There are two drying tools used by partners; 5) There are 5 notebooks submitted to partners, but partners are only able to record 2 notebooks (books of purchase and sale); and 6).A total of 25 pieces of octopus and dry sea worms were reached the market in the Ohoi Matwair region.

  • IbM Implementation of SRI Method in Semi Organic Rice Farm in Pasarean
           Village, Pamijahan Subdistrict, Bogor District

    • Authors: . Hastuti, Ahyar Ismail, Dea Amanda, Arini Hardjanto, Fitri Dewi Raswatie
      Pages: 125 - 134

Farmer’s low income was caused by low productivity so farmer welfare also decrease. Traditional methods in cultivation also affect the environment because of high usage of chemical fertilizer. This community service program aims to increase farmer’s income in Pamijahan Subdistrict by introducing System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method using organic fertilizer. The main activities are: instituional strengthening, SRI training and cultivation practice (pilot project). The expected outcome of this community service activity is to increase production by using less input and to get higher selling price for organic rice. There are four steps in this program is: planning, organizing, actuating and controlling. The sequence is: 1) Program preparation, consist of: program socialization, institutional strengthening, cooperation with SRI trainer, preparation of experimental field, seed and agricultural equipment; 2) Institutional strengthening with rice farmer; 3) SRI method training with trainers from Nagrak Organic SRI Center to change farmer’s mindset and train farmers about SRI cultivation method; 4) Cultivation in experimental field (650 m2), where farmers practice to cultivate rice with SRI method; 5) Experimental field harvesting, unhuled rice yielded around 65 kg or 30–40 kg of rice; and 6) Supervision during the experimental cultivation by IPB lecturers and village officials.

  • Development of Anchovy Product and the Certification for Community
Empowerment in Saramaake Village, East Halmahera, North Moluccas

    • Authors: Faleh Setia Budi, Joko Purnomo, . Sulistiono, . Darmanto, . Arisyono
      Pages: 143 - 155
Abstract: Anchovy (Stolephorus spp) is a main target of lift-net fishery, and it is a main income for the fisherman for long time in Saramaake Village, East Halmahera District. Production in a large number with bulky marketing system and a limited processing activity affect a limited economical value for the community of the village. This community empowerment activities had been done for 6 months, from June–December 2017, aimed to develop the anchovy product and the certification. Methods used in this activity were training and mentoring. Objective targets of the activity were fishermen and fisherman’s wife which are members of Common Business Group and cooperation. Some activities have been done for product development (chili sauce packaged anchovy and labelling) and product certification (certification of halal from the Institute Assessment of Food, Drug and Cosmetics Indonesian Council of Ulama and certification of food of Household Industry from Public Health Service Office in District of East Halmahera). Based on the result of training and mentoring, the object community had gained a knowledge and technology related to the fish processing and certification. • Community Empowerment to Increase Litopenaeus vannamei Productivity
Towards Semi-Intensive System by Potential Analysis and Self-Feed

    • Authors: Sulastri Arsad, Muhammad Musa, Evellin Dewi Lusiana, Mohammad Mahmudi, Nanik Retno Buwono, Gatut Bintoro
      Pages: 156 - 164
Abstract: Vaname shrimp is one of the leading cultivations of fishery production commodities in Indonesia which has high selling price and market share, also relatively resistant with high stocking density. Cultivation activities of this commodity can be carried out through three systems; namely traditional, semi-intensive, and intensive system. One group of cultivators who develop shrimp farming business is Mina Nusantara group in Lamongan District, where the cultivation system is still performed traditionally. The shrimp size was not uniform, and the survival rate was low once it harvested. Moreover, community empowerment was applied to increase vaname productivity towards semi-intensive system by culture potential analyses using SWOT and self-feed production training. Survey and experimental approach were used during the activities. The activities included survey and discussion with shrimp local farmer (Mina Nusantara), identified internal and external factors of culture by using SWOT analysis, carried out self-made artificial feed training, and program evaluation at the end. The activity resulted an increasing of farmer understanding of various culture system and they can produce the pellet in small scale by themselves. Based on SWOT analysis, the culture is potential to develop sustainably by regarding both internal and external factors.
