  • There’s no truth-theory like the correspondence theory

    • Abstract: I challenge the assumption that pragmatist, coherence, identity, and deflationary theories of truth are essentially rival views to the correspondence theory, but I do not endorse pluralism. Except for some versions of the identity theory, the alternative theories only seem to genuinely contradict the correspondence theory, either when they are combined with a rejection of an objective reality or when it is assumed that to offer a ‘theory of truth’ is to offer a theory of the function of the truthpredicate. I argue that the correspondence theory should not be understood as a theory about the function of the truthpredicate, and that the core ideas of the alternative views, once separated from any anti-realist convictions, are best understood as complementary views about different aspects of a fairly complex phenomenon, notably of how our beliefs relate to their subject matter and how we reason and talk about that relation.

  • A posteriori necessity, trivialization and
           overgeneralization”

This paper discusses the plausibility of the admission of general non-natural rigid terms. Theoretical identity statements that include general non-natural rigid terms do not express a posteriori necessity: they are analytical, necessary and a priori statements. Only statements of identity that include general rigid natural terms are statements necessary a posteriori. The problems of trivialization and overgeneralization assume that the application of rigidity to the terms of non-natural kinds, detracts from rigidity as a semantic-modal differentiator, but that is only true if these problems require that any general rigid term allows affirming a posteriori necessity, which is rejected. The nominalization of a general term is proposed as a solution to trivialization and over-generalization. Similarly, a restrictive predicative reading of the general terms is discarded. Finally, the main cases of general non-rigid terms are explained: syntactically complex descriptive terms.

  • Epistemology and politics: a critique of the “coloniality of
           knowledge” thesis.

The thesis of the “coloniality of knowledge” is philosophically weak and historically questionable. Through an analysis of a range of texts of authors of the “decolonial turn” I show that they make unfounded assertions about the connection between Cartesian epistemology and the socio-political conditions and relations of domination in Latin America (colonial domination, capitalist exploitation, racism, sexism). I argue that their conceptualization of the natural and social sciences and their characterization of Cartesian epistemology are superficial and historically dubitable. I conclude that the relation between epistemology and politics that the coloniality of knowledge presupposes is implausible and should be reformulated.

  • Socio-epistemic mechanisms and scientific practices in the critical
           rationalism of Karl Popper

From the epistemology of Karl Popper and the theory of Social Mechanisms, we present a model, placed from the technical space of scientific work that proposes a re-interpretation of the investigative practices. For this purpose, we advance a logic of "socio-epistemic mechanisms" that aims to re-signify the processes of falsifiability, demarcation and convention of Popperian epistemology, since they constitute processes and subprocesses that occur in very limited dimensions of scientific operations and decisions. With the above, it is intended to relieve the centrality of the internist dimension of scientific work, which implies thinking of a new rationalist critique, far from formal logic, but focused on the in situ or situational interpretation of knowledge production. It is what we might call a "low-level epistemology".

  • Of blood circulation: Descartes and Harvey

This paper deals with the treatment given by Rene Descartes to the discovery of blood circulation made by William Harvey, and its differences regarding the role of the heart in this process. Taking distance from the traditional interpretation of the controversy, it is concluded that, although Harvey was a declared Aristotelian and Descartes a philosopher of materialistic descent, the lattest’s postulates exhibit several scholastic prejudices and a strong theoretical charge in the observations. On the contrary, Harvey’s proposal, although inspired by Aristotle’s philosophy, ends up freeing physiology from considerations of Aristotelian thinking.

  • The rise and fall of imagination in Heidegger

Despite the key role that imagination plays in Kant and the Problem of Metaphysics, this concept ceased to be the object of analysis. The purpose of this paper is to explain the reasons for its rise and fall. Its boom is believed to be due to the fact that, with this concept Heidegger managed to carry out a positive ontology of the Kantian personalitas transcendentalis and articulate it with the personalitas moralis. Its disappearance, on the other hand, occurred because this imagination is ontologically spontaneous and, therefore, inconsistent with the concept of receptive finitude that will also be developed in this work. In other words, this disappearance is associated with a reconsideration of the conception of finitude by Dasein.

  • Critique to business ethics and corporate social responsibility from
           Nietzsche

The purpose of this paper, from the genealogy of business ethics, is to document the thesis that argues that the idea of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its development arise in the capitalist context of a resentment of a weak society that incarnate the Nietzschean figure of the ascetic priest. The paper is divided into 5 parts: the first part begins with a review of business ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility as its origin; in the second part, the main critique to CRS is reconstructed; in the third part, genealogy of business ethics is exposed and it is argued that resentment is the ideological foundation of CSR. The fourth part shows how the theoretician in business ethics embodies the Nietzschean figure of the ascetic priest and business ethics has been founded on the ascetic ideals that the ascetic priest preaches. The last part, presents a section of conclusions.

  • About rabbits and other geometric figures. The problem of referential
           indeterminacy in Fodor's semantic theory

This article examines the argument advanced by Fodor to neutralize Quine's problem of referential indeterminacy, showing that there are substantial problems with its premises and the conclusion that it intends to bring forward. Eventually, it will be shown that the mistakes in Fodor's argument indicate that there is a systematic indeterminacy in his semantic theory. Finally, the causes of this referential indetermination, in terms of a conceptual commitment with an extensional criterion identity for perceptual states that his informational semantics supposes, are analyzed.
