Abstract: The first and unavoidable phase in the intervention in the Heritage and the existing building is the realization of a survey. Currently, its purpose is to build a digital geometric model in a computer system that serves to represent the built object and also serve as a geometric basis for further analysis. This paper takes a tour of the models used in building the survey data and what input and output information they use. These models are reduced to point clouds, wired-frame and curves and surfaces models. Solid modelling (BIM) is not widespread in this field given the difficulties presented by its application. All of them have in common that they codify by means of a database that includes the points of the survey and in some occasions another additional database is necessary to complete the reconstruction of the f the geometric information. This information management allows the development of computer applications that automatically analyse existing constructions based on geometry, such as the verification of the equilibrium of masonry structures. This work allows, therefore, clarifying the field that connects the geometric modelling, analytical representation and computational techniques with the architectural survey and intervention in Heritage.

Abstract: This research tries to design a modular part suitable for construction, with new materials and manufacturing processes. Polymers and 3D printing are the key elements in the process. It is about implanting a new model of modular part that is able to replace the conventional brick. With this research, we want to make known the new construction processes derived from 3D printing and how we can improve the existing technology. The main objective is to design a modular part, using additive manufacturing systems and plastic materials. Then we are going to determine the physical characteristics that the pieces must have, and the geometric possibilities that the manufacturing process allows us, as well as the materials that the pieces will be made. These pieces will be subject to all the actual tests to ceramic pieces, according to the current standard. Additionally, we will analyze the results obtained and compare them with an expensive ceramic brick to assess the advantages obtained. Finally, we will determine some conclusions derived from these investigations, and propose new study proposals. With this research, we intend to demonstrate that, although conventional brick are basic elements of construction and fulfils its functions perfectly, it is time to adapt the new technologies to the constructive methods.

Abstract: The public transport, as we know it today, originates from the end of the 18 th and beginning of the 19th Centuries. Initially a privilege for the aristocratic and bourgeoisie classes, public transport saw a surge in development once communication between Madrid and others distant urban centers became a necessity that demanded a more economical and accessible transport system. The increase of these services, along with the diversification of the means of transportation, quickly caused congestion problems at transfer points. Throughout the last century, these same problems have been confronted with a variety of diverse strategies and solutions. All in all, the history of intermodality in Madrid tells the story of an evolution that has allowed the urban web to unite all of its branches extending from the main gates that are now being converted the interchanges in relation with the city. From its creation in 1985, the CRTM (transport authority of Madrid), considered the intermodality to be a main priority within the following different fields of action: infrastructure, ticketing and whole image and information. Within the interchanges is where the integration efforts of the different transport modes best become a reality. In essence, interchanges play the same role in today`s cities as the gates in the walls of a centuries-old medieval city. At this moment, interchanges are the gates to the cities of the 21st Century.

  • Masonry structures assesment and photogrammetry. Ca-se study: San Millán
de Segovia = Evaluación de estructuras de fábrica y levantamiento
fotogramé-trico. Caso de estudio: San Millán de Segovia

    • Authors: Miriam Guerra Martín, Julián García Muñoz

Abstract: The advanced technology of the new photogrammetric systems, whose progressive improvements could be due to both better resolution of the new cameras and the recent development of sophisticated interpolation algorithms, permits nowadays register not only the general aspect of the building architecture plan and elevations but also, learning in detail the geometry of the parts that integrate the building, and more significantly, the main elements of its structure. In fact, it has a great interest in many areas, and specially in masonry structures, where stability analysis require detailed information about the structural joints of the materials that set the element as well as the specific geometry of the junction that appears between the contact of one block with another. In this work, we demonstrate that a complex photogrammetry technique can be used as a geometric base to analyze masonry structures. The San Millan de Segovia's church is used as an example of structure for the study. This study addresses the different parts of the process, from the photogrammetric lifting to the simplification processes used for implementing this procedure automatically to any type of structure, pointing out the operational simplicity that this technique allows.

  • Assessment methods for determination of the technical causes in accidents

    • Authors: Carlos Lozano Martínez, Javier Yuste Navarro
      Pages: 32 - 40
Abstract: The main scope of this article is to expose an effective methodology for the investigation in complex accidents that they have happened by structural complex failures, in temporary work equipment that has been used during the building on different construction sites. This methodology is based on real cases, and due to its application and development it has allowed the determination of the technical causes that has induced the mechanism for structural collapsed with the scientific severity that it is necessary in a performance of these characteristics. Accurately by the complexity that it motivates the determination of the technical causes in singular structural failures, as well as the judicial process derived from a serious accident. It is very important that it takes into account the methodology and aspects that it has to comply for what the expert report adapts to the scope and expected expectations, basically so that expert report has the scientific rigor that it allows to demonstrate by unquestioned form the technical causes that has induced the failure. Some main aspects it must to take into account during all the process and for the making of expert report, like; visiting the accident area getting the broken pieces and rest of pieces belonging temporary work equipment or installation; permanent identification and traceability during the manipulation and tests carried out on the recovered pieces, independently of the nature, destructive or not; application of the analytical and experimental assessment methods for understanding the safety conditions of the damaged equipment, previously and in the moment of the accident, finally, an expert report writing in a simple language that allows to the different agents (judge, prosecutor, lawyer, accused) involved on the judicial process, to understand clearly how the mechanism of failure has occurred despite that they have not a technical knowledge about the topic.

Abstract: The expert evidence is a transmission of information that the expert makes to the judge or to a third party, in the form of an opinion so that he can assess facts or relevant circumstances in a given process. It is regulated in the LEC [1] (January 7, 2000) in articles 335 and 352. Thus the expert is configured as that person who has specific knowledge of which the court lacks and that are necessary for a proper evaluation of the process. The expert is a subject that by definition must be extraneous to the process and to the facts [2] The expert must not possess legal knowledge but if he knows the protocol that is used in judiciary proceedings in which he intervenes, in addition to have the knowledge, at least of the specialty that proves with his title and that are accurate in the test. The expert must be aware of the importance of his work in the judicial process and the value of his evidence, which can unbalance the balance of justice, with the damages and benefits inherent in the respective parties.
