  • Building the recent history of the railway of La Araucanía (Chile) from
           its workers point of view

    • Abstract: Resumen: El presente artículo tiene por objetivo analizar la percepción de los trabajadores ferroviarios de La Araucanía, Chile, en relación con el papel desempeñado por el ferrocarril en las dinámicas socioculturales y económicas de la región. A partir de una metodología cualitativa, donde se entrevistó a veintitrés trabajadores y extrabajadores ferroviarios, se desarrolló el trabajo de campo en ciudades históricas de la región como Victoria, Lautaro, Temuco y Renaico, las cuales se gestaron territorialmente en estrecha relación con la inserción del ferrocarril desde la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Dentro de los hallazgos cabe destacar la relevancia del ferrocarril en la vida cotidiana de los habitantes de la región, el rol del ferrocarril en la participación social de los ciudadanos, la trascendencia del patrimonio ferroviario desde el encuentro entre lo material y lo subjetivo y las transformaciones en las formas de interacción social de los trabajadores ferroviarios. : The present article aims to analyze the perception of the railway workers from La Araucania, Chile, regarding the role played by the railway in sociocultural and economic dynamics of the Region. The fieldwork was carried out in the Region’s historical cities, such as Victoria, Lautaro, Temuco and Renaico, which were developed -in terms of territory- very closely-related to the incorporation of the railway during the second half of the XIX century. The research used a qualitative methodology, in which twenty-three railway workers and former workers were interviewed. Among the findings, it is worth mentioning: the importance of the railway in the daily lives of the Region’s inhabitants, the role of the railway in the social participation of citizens, the significance of the railway patrimony from the encounter between the material and the subjective, and the transformations in the social interaction ways of the railway workers.
       
  • The hiring of the Klein-Saks Mission by Chile (1955): The role of the
           United States and international financial organizations

    • Abstract: Resumen: El objetivo de este trabajo es examinar la participación e importancia que tuvieron los organismos financieros internacionales y el gobierno estadounidense en el proceso de contratación de la Misión Klein-Saks por parte de la administración de Carlos Ibáñez del Campo para mediados de 1955. Se plantea que el gobierno estadounidense y las organizaciones financieras internacionales presionaron a la administración de Ibáñez, desde 1954, para que solucionara la situación de la inflación y contratara expertos para ello. Agregar que desde Estados Unidos no hubo una recomendación explícita ni directa para que Chile contratara específicamente a la firma Klein-Saks. : This paper aim to examine the participation and importance of the U.S. government and the international financial organizations in the hiring process of the Klein-Saks Mission by the administration of Carlos Ibáñez del Campo in the mid of 1955. It is argued that the government of the United States and the international financial organizations pressured the administration of Ibáñez, since at least 1954, to solve the inflation situation y hire experts for it. Besides, from the United States authorities there wasn’t an explicit or direct recommendation to Chile to hire specifically the Klein-Saks firm.
       
  • More than a historical drama: Dramatological commentary on Fuerte Bulnes
           (1955) by María Asunción Requena

    • Abstract: Resumen: Este artículo realiza un análisis dramatológico a la obra Fuerte Bulnes de María Asunción Requena. El objetivo es destacar los aportes de la dramaturga en la construcción de la identidad nacional, con la incorporación de otras historias ausentes del relato central hegemónico. Mediante los elementos fundamentales del teatro propuesto por García Barrientos: tiempo, espacio, personaje y visión, se subrayan las partes centrales que conforman este drama histórico. Los resultados del análisis refuerzan el imaginario del sur de Chile en forma épica, en que se ponen a la vista otras historias y los esfuerzos de hombres y mujeres que el centralismo ha querido dejar afuera. : This article makes a dramatological analysis on Fuerte Bulnes by María Asunción Requena. Its objective is to highlight the contribution of this dramatist in the formation of national identity, with the inclusion of facts which are absent in the central hegemonic history. Thanks to the fundamental elements of theatre proposed by García Barrientos: time, space, character and vision; the central parts which form this historical drama are emphasized. The results of the analysis strengthen the imaginary of Southern Chile in an epic manner, which considers other facts and the efforts made by men and women, which centralism has chosen to leave out.
       
  • Leadership practices of teachers and managers that favor student learning
           in the mapuche context

    • Abstract: Resumen: El objetivo de esta investigación consiste en indagar las prácticas de liderazgo de docentes y directivos que facilitan el aprendizaje de estudiantes de una escuela primaria en contexto rural mapuche, región de La Araucanía, Chile. Se planteó un diseño cualitativo suscrito a un estudio de caso. Los resultados develan prácticas de liderazgo centradas en la mejora de los aprendizajes desde una perspectiva intercultural, basadas principalmente en una relación constante entre el conocimiento mapuche y el conocimiento escolar, lo que nutre el desarrollo de un trabajo colaborativo, decisiones compartidas y acciones contextualizadas y significativas que favorecen el mejoramiento del aprendizaje de los estudiantes. : The objective of this research is to investigate the leadership practices of teachers and managers that facilitate the learning of students of an elementary school in rural Mapuche context, region of La Araucanía, Chile. A qualitative design was subscribed to a case study. The results reveal leadership practices focused on improving learning from an intercultural perspective, based mainly on a constant relationship between Mapuche knowledge and school knowledge, which nurtures the development of collaborative work, shared decisions and contextualized and meaningful actions that favor the improvement of student learning.
       
  • Who is the God of the young' An approximation to the image of God in
           middle school students

    • Abstract: Resumen: Esta investigación tiene como objetivo, conocer la representación de la imagen de Dios en estudiantes de enseñanza media en el contexto escolar del Área Metropolitana de Santiago. Para estos fines se construyó un cuestionario como instrumento de investigación. El instrumento se aplicó en 26 establecimientos del Área Metropolitana de Santiago, obteniendo una muestra final de 1299 casos. Se consideró la distribución del tipo de sistema educativo que caracteriza el modelo chileno, es decir los datos se recuperaron respetando los porcentajes correspondientes a matricula particular; subvencionado y municipal, así como colegio religioso y colegio laico. Para efectos de la entrega de los resultados, se exponen los datos considerando su proveniencia de colegios católicos o laicos. : This research aims to know the representation of the image of God in high school students in the school context of the Metropolitan Area of Santiago. For these purposes, a questionnaire was constructed as a research instrument. The instrument was applied in 26 establishments of the Metropolitan Area of Santiago, obtaining a final sample of 1299 cases. The distribution of the type of educational system that characterizes the Chilean model was considered, that is to say, the data were recovered respecting the percentages corresponding to a particular enrollment; subsidized and municipal, as well as religious college and lay school. For the purposes of the delivery of the results, the data are exposed considering their origin from Catholic or lay schools.
       
  • Gender perspective in the relationship between professionals in the health
           area and their users: A literature review

    • Abstract: Resumen: La violencia hacia las mujeres en el ámbito sanitario se relaciona con la instauración y reproducción de modelos hegemónicos en salud que infantilizan, estigmatizan y desautorizan a las mujeres y sus saberes ancestro-tradicionales, estableciendo en el contexto clínico relaciones de poder asimétricas. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar los elementos que influyen en la relación entre profesionales del área de la salud, con sus usuarios y usuarias desde la perspectiva de género. Para ello, se efectuó una revisión sistematizada en bases de datos internacionales, utilizando los descriptores “género”, “salud”, “perspectiva de género” y “biomedicina”. Los resultados muestran que aspectos como género y sexo, edad, cultura y formación profesional, son determinantes en las relaciones entre el público usuario y el equipo profesional. : Violence against women in the health sector is related to the establishment and reproduction of hegemonic health models that infantilize, stigmatize and disavow women and their ancestral-traditional knowledge, establishing asymmetric power relationships in the clinical context. The aim of this article is to analyze the elements that influence the relationship between professionals in the health area with its users from gender perspective. To this end, a systematized review of international databases was carried out, using the descriptors: “gender”, “health”, “gender perspective” and “biomedicine”. The results show that aspects such as gender and sex, age, culture and professional training are determining factors in the relations between the user public and the professional team.
       
  • Older people in disaster situations: An analysis from their experience at
           the Valparaíso fire of 2014

    • Abstract: Resumen: Chile es reconocido como un país sometido a diversos desastres socionaturales, siendo de interés indagar cómo los vivencian las personas mayores, debido a que podrían presentar más dificultades que otros grupos para enfrentarlos. En abril de 2014, Valparaíso fue arrasado por un incendio que dejó más de 12.000 damnificados, concentrándose en el cerro La Cruz, el número más alto de personas mayores afectadas. El objetivo de este estudio cualitativo de carácter exploratorio fue indagar cómo las personas mayores significan su experiencia en situaciones de desastre a partir de este siniestro. Los resultados del análisis interpretativo surgido de las entrevistas en profundidad, develaron que identifican condiciones de vulnerabilidad en el contexto que habitan comprendidas como abandono material y emocional, que su capacidad de respuesta ante los desastres la significan como un tránsito que evoluciona desde el miedo a la resiliencia y que valoran sus recursos personales por sobre aquellos otorgados por la institucionalidad pública, en relación a las estrategias que utilizaron para la reestructuración de sus vidas. : Chile is recognized as a country subjected to several socio-natural disasters, and it is of interest to investigate how the elderly experience those, because they could present more difficulties than other groups to face them. In April 2014, Valparaíso was devastated by a fire that left more than 12,000 people affected, concentrating the highest number of elderly people affected on La Cruz hill. The objective of this qualitative exploratory study was to investigate how they mean their experience in disaster situations starting from this incident. The results of the interpretative analysis that emerged from the in-depth interviews revealed that they identify conditions of vulnerability in the context they inhabit, including material and emotional abandonment, that their ability to respond to disasters it is seen as a transit that evolves from fear to resilience, and that they value their personal resources over those garanted by public institutions in relation to the strategies they use to restructure their lives.
       
  • Social work enacted: The mediator role of norms and legal edicts

    • Abstract: Resumen: El presente artículo se pregunta respecto a cómo comprender la producción del trabajo social chileno. En consideración a lo anterior, el concepto “enactment”que emerge en la Teoría del Actor-Red (ANT) resulta clarificador para entender la configuración de una realidad social con participación de actantes humanos y no-humanos que convergen en la arquitectura de esta profesión. Como resultado, emerge una red híbrida que teje mediaciones y traducciones donde las leyes y decretos legales juegan un papel clave para esclarecer los puntos principales que constituyen el trabajo social chileno contemporáneo. : This article asks about how to understand the production of Chilean social work. The concept of enactment that emerges from the Actor-Network Theory (ANT) is key to understand the configuration of a social reality where human and non-humans participate in the constitution of the architecture of this profession. As a result, a hybrid network emerges that weave mediations and translations in which laws and legal edicts play a key role in order to clarify the main points that constitute the contemporary Chilean social work.
