  • Education-growth nexus in middle-income countries: an empirical
           examination for schooling rates

    • Authors: Ümit Bulut; Ahsen Seda Kılıç Bulut
Abstract: Thegoal of this paper is to examine the education-growth nexus for 5 middle-incomecountries (Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand, and Turkey) usingschooling rate as the indicator of education over the period 1987-2015. Thepaper first performs cross-sectional dependence and heterogeneity tests andthen employs the bootstrap panel Granger causality test developed by Konya(2006). According to thefindings, while there is unidirectional causality from schooling rate to GDP inThailand, there is unidirectional causality from GDP to schooling rate in South Africa. The findings of the paper indicate that schooling rate is not a good proxy forhuman capital. Theoretical and policy implications are discussed in theconclusion part.

           Haushofer

    • Authors: Şenay Kırgız
Abstract: It is an indisputable fact thatliterature is in interaction with other branches of science, and that thisinterdisciplinary interaction greatly enriches literary works. Because of thisrich blend, literature is tightly bound to many disciplines. This study focuseson a concept that corresponds both to literature and to psychology. The Swisspsychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung, who is the prominent figure of analyticalpsychology, puts forward the concept of archetype, which can also be defined asthe “first example.” Jung defines the collective unconscious through theconcept of archetype. The archetype exists in the range of collectiveunconscious and corresponds to a cultural heritage coded within the individual. This study examines the concept of archetype using Marlen Haushofer’s novel DieWand (The Wall) as a point of reference. With the aid of the psychology, whichcan function as a tool for decoding literary texts, and the hidden messagesplaced into the text by the author will be attempted to be revealed with theuse of archetypal analysis.

  • Social media usage of universities in the process of preference

    • Authors: Erhan Akyazı
Abstract: The activities of helping new generations to acquire the knowledge andskills necessary to take their place in society are briefly referred to aseducation. Man is a social entity and can not be considered apart from society. It is natural and a right to participate in the training activities necessaryto be able to adapt to society. This right has been registered bothinternationally and in national laws and contracts. Article 26 of the UniversalDeclaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in1948, states that every person has the right to education. In Article 42 of theConstitution of the Republic of Turkey it is stated that no one can deprived ofeducation and training. The task of States is to open training institutions, toassign training staff to these institutions, and to ensure that their citizensbenefit from the relevant rights. Educational institutions opened by privateinstitutions also alleviate the responsibility of the state in this task.Thousands of schools have been opened in our country for millions of studentsat primary level. There are dozens of higher education institutions, includingat least one in each city, and they continue to open. There are currently 206Higher Education Institutions in the Higher Education Council. The main task ofeach higher education institution is to be able to add qualified graduates. While performing this task, they are competing for the most successfulcandidates to choose themselves. Attracting successful candidates to themselvesrequires firstly reaching them. With the help of the communication andinformation technologies that entered our lives together with the end of the90's, access to individuals has become much easier and the scope has expandedso much. Social media, which has added another dimension to communication withthe new millennium, has penetrated every aspect of our lives and offered newopportunities for higher education institutions as well. Institutions can checkwhether their messages reach their target group, see the profile of the massthat they reach, and thus they can make the next contents more planned. It isnot wrong to say that today almost all higher education institutions have atleast one social media account. This situation, which is the result of thecompulsion of the competitive environment, gives the candidates the convenienceof making their preferences. With the support of mobile devices and operators, social media, which has entered every area of our lives, is the source of this.In this context, the study aims to measure the social media presence ofuniversities and the performance of social media platforms in the selectionprocess. In this framework, the study will try to analyze the social mediashares of universities in Istanbul towards to candidates.

           of leader emotional expressivity

    • Authors: Nevra Baker

Abstract: Vertical jump is regarded as high poweroutput that can be reached by maximum muscular contraction taking place in lessthan one second and described as explosive power. Different results may beobtained in different methods applied to the same individual in vertical jump measurements. In the study, it has been aimed topresent an equation model at the end of determining the correlation between StrideBluetooth Sensor (PSBS), Jumpster mobile phone jumping test program (JSP) andVertical Jump Test (VJT) and deducing by simple linear regression model. 56male and 34 female participants having 19,4 ± 1,1 year, have been included inthe study. Average height of jump of the participants have been measured asPSBS 32.8 ± 8,2 cm, JSP 39.2 ± 8.2 cm and VJT 43.6 ± 8.6 cm. There is a positiverelationship of r= 792**, r= 804** according to thePerson correlation analysis results between the results of PSBS and JSP testsand VJT test.

  • The unfounded mass burials of the so-called Armenian Genocide

    • Authors: Yurdagül Atun; Ata Atun
Abstract: According to some sources, TheArmenian Genocide Appeals (the so-called Armenian Genocide or the UnfoundedArmenian Claims) indicate that the Armenian deportation, which was carried outby the Ottoman State in Eastern Anatolia for internal security reasons from Mayto November 1915, was aimed at destroying the Armenian community in the region,Millions of Armenians are alleged to have been killed by this reason. In the early years of the FirstWorld War, the Ottoman State while fighting in many fronts with Allied Powers, the Armenians attacked the Ottoman army jointly with the Russian army in theregion up to Central Anatolia in the East, and rebelled in many cities. Inorder to overcome these rebellions, the Ottoman State held a joint meeting withthe Armenian Patriarchs, especially the Armenian Members of the TanzimatParliament, and the leaders of the Armenian community, and informed them thatthe Ottoman State would take countermeasures if the Armenians continued to killlocal Muslim people in Eastern Anatolia. On the basisof this notion, the Ottoman State in April 24, 1915 arrested 235 people who hadorganized the rebellions and closed down all the Armenian Committees and localorganizations that supported and organized the rebellions. The Ottoman State promulgatiatedthe Temporary Law of Deportation, in 27 May 1915. Accordingly, it was decided someof the Armenians in Eastern Anatolia would be displaced to Syria, Lebanon andIraq. According to the Armenians' claims, massacre and genocide were carriedout under the deportation title and 1.5 million Armenians were killed. Thisarticle is about the mass graves of 1.5 million Armenians which would form thebasis of the massacre allegations, the size, how and by whom they were dug, howthe massacred Armenians buried and how the mass graves covered with soil. Thepaper is written to investigate whether there are mass graves or not.

  • Authentic leadership and follower job satisfaction: The moderating effect
           of leader emotional expressivity

    • Authors: Nevra Baker
Abstract: This researchattempts to explain the moderating effect of leader emotional expressivity onthe relationship between authentic leadership and follower job satisfaction.Accordingly, quantitative data, collected via survey administration tofront-line employees of service-rendering companies from Istanbul was used totest the hypotheses. The findings of this study revealed that the strength ofleader emotional expressivity weakened the positive contributions of authenticleadership to follower job satisfaction for leaders who demonstrate a highlevel of authentic leadership. On the other hand, higher leader emotionalexpressivity compensates for the low levels of authentic leadership in terms ofincreasing follower job satisfaction.
