  • Simulative Computerized Adaptive Motor Vehicle Driving License Exam Test
           Administration

      Abstract: The aim of this study is to compare simulatively administration of Motor Vehicle Driving TraineesExam Test as computerized adaptive test [CAT] with paper-pencil test method. This study is conducted by usingbasic research model. Research population consists of the candidates that attended B type certificate exam at October23rd, 2010 and February 12nd, 2011, and research sample consists of 5000 candidates being chosen randomly amongthose candidates. Data analysis is done via XCalibre 4.2 and CATSim programs. It is found in the study that 50 itemsare applied to candidates in Motor Vehicle Driving Trainees paper-pencil test while minimum 27, maximum 50 andmean 32.52 items are applied simulative computerized adaptive Motor Vehicle Driving Trainees Exam test. When itis considered that in paper-pencil test each candidate encounters 50 items, it is found that candidates encounter lessitem at the rate of 34.96% in simulative computerized adaptive Motor Vehicle Driving Trainees Exam test incompare with paper –pencil test application. Theta levels being estimated in Motor Vehicle Driving Trainees ExamTest between CAT and paper-pencil test is r=.94, p<01. This shows that these applications estimate similar thetalevels.

  • The Effect of Extra-Curricular Activities with Active Participation on the
           Student Motivation in Teaching Turkish to the Foreigners

      Abstract: Thereare a lot of methods and techniques that yield permanent learning in teachinglanguage. Learning through living is a student-centred model which can becarried out in and outside the classroom settings and which enables learners togain high - order cognitive skills with more than one sense organ in thelanguage teaching process. The aim of this research is to make the studentslearning Turkish as a foreign language to use the structures that they havelearned inside the classroom in the different settings thanks to the fieldtrips organized by the instructor in the scope of learning through living modeland to analyse the effect of these field trips on the student motivations. Thebasis of the study is to organize field trips to be carried out under theguidance of the instructor at the end of A1 level. During the field trip, thequestions about the structures that the students learned in the class wereasked to the students in accordance with the natural environment. The grammarstructures taken into the study were chosen from “Yedi İklim Turkish LearningSet-A1 Level. Of the qualitative research methods, the case study model wasused in the research and the study group consisted of the A1 level-studentsfrom Yunus Emre Institute, Sarajevo Turkish Culture Centre.  The data collections tools included theopen-ended questions, the instructor observation form and the students opinionsand the conclusions were reached thanks to these tools.

  • Investigation of Early Childhood Educators’ Perspectives Towards
           Outdoor Play

      Abstract: In this study, early childhood educators’ attitudes,implementations and experiences towards outdoor play were investigated duringMay and June of 2015-2016 academic year. 30 early childhood educators from 6private school in Çankaya/Ankara got involved to the study. Open-endedquestionnaire which developed by reserchers is used for the research. Thisquestionnaire consists of two parts. First part includes demographicalinformation about educatiors and second part includes questions aboutattitudes, level of knowledge and competence. Results show that early childhoodeducators generally aware of the importance of the outdoor play. On the otherhand, due to the intensive educational programs, weather conditions and limitedoutdoor play environment, children cannot get chance to play in the outdoorarea. With the results of the study, early childhood education programs can bearranged according to child-centered and active learning perspectives. Thisstudy can provide basis to develop active learning environment by doing,experiencing, questioning and solving the problems with emphasizing importanceof outdoor play.

  • Where the Rivers Merge: Cognitive Diagnostic Approaches to Educational
           Assessment

      Abstract: A growing emphasis on the union of cognitivepsychology with psychometrics has led to the inception of Cognitive DiagnosticAssessment (CDA). CDA can be  defined asa cognitively‑grounded assessment methodology which aims to detect  examinees’ strengths and weaknesses in agiven domain, make reliable diagnostic classifications directly from thestatistical models, and present stakeholders with fine‑grained andpedagogically‑meaningful diagnostic feedback. Although CDA holds great promisefor educational assessment practices, it remains relatively unknown to manyassessment specialists. Hence, this paper aims to describe the theoreticalunderpinnings and working principles of CDA by giving information about thedevelopments that have led to the inception of CDA and elaborate on how CDA canbe implemented in operational assessment settings either by using an inductiveor retrofitted approach to foster learning and enhance accountability withineducational programs. Finally, the potential that CDA bears for educationalassessment is discussed and practical implications are made.

  • Application of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Framework to
           Primary Mathematics Teaching: A Scale Adaptation Study

      Abstract: The present study aimed to adapt the TechnologicalPedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) for mathematics teachingquestionnaire into Turkish for classroom teachers who work in public schools.There were three stages in the questionnaire adaptation process. The questionnaire’slanguage validity was established in the first stage, validity in the secondand reliability in the third stage. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA)have been utilized in establishing the validity of the questionnaire. 372classroom teachers’ responses have been used in EFA and 310 for CFA. Afour-factor solution emerged as a result of EFA. These factors (in the order offactor loadings) were named as: 1) Knowledge of Teaching Mathematics withTechnology (KTMT) under which items that belonged to Technological PedagogicalKnowledge (TPK), Technological Content Knowledge (TCK), and TechnologicalPedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK) sub-sections merged together;  2) Knowledge of Teaching Mathematics (KTM)under which items that belonged to Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) andPedagogy Knowledge (PK) sub-sections merged together as one factor; 3) ContentKnowledge for Mathematics (CKM) which included items from the Content Knowledge(CK) sub-section; and 4) Technology Knowledge (TK). Those four factors explained62.20 % of the total variation in the questionnaire. In addition, the resultsof CFA suggested a good model fit; NNFI .98, NFI .97, CFI .98, IFI .98, RMR.06, and RMSEA .07. Cronbach’s Alpha (α) internal consistency and total itemcorrelations were calculated to establish reliability. The internal consistency(α) for the whole questionnaire was calculated as .97. The α levels for eachsubscale was; .96 for TPACK, .94 for PCK, .89 for CK, and .91 for TK and totalitem correlation coefficients were higher than .30. Evaluation of these resultssuggests that a valid and reliable Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledgequestionnaire, which consists of 47 items under four subscales (KTMT, KTM, CKM,and TK), was developed.

  • Primary and Kindergarten Teachers’ Opinions on Mixed Age Grouping
           Education

      Abstract: The decline of school startingage find out so many results in Turkey. One of these results is the mixed agegrouping classes. Mixed age grouping classes have occurred in kindergartens (48-68months of age at the same classroom) and first grade of primary schools (66-72months of age at the same classroom) with this regulation. Aim of this study isto examine kindergarten and primary school first grade teachers’ opinions onteaching mixed age group of children. Study group consists of 10 kindergartensand 10 primary school first grade teachers. Phenomenological research method isfollowed. Interview form was used to collect the data. Themes are positiveperspective on mixed age grouping in terms of teachers’ implementations,positive perspective on mixed age grouping in terms of children’s gains,negative perspective on mixed age grouping in terms of teachers’implementations and negative perspective on mixed age grouping in terms of children’sgains. As a result; it is seen that both primary and kindergarten teachers havenegative experiences regarding being not ready to teach mixed age group ofchildren. Even kindergarten teachers know how to plan activities for 36-72years old children; they have challenges in teaching mixed age group ofchildren. Primary school 1st grade teachers have expressed that they don’t knowany about 60 months of age children’s developmental skills and school/classroomenvironment is also not convenient for these children. Teachers have alsoexpressed that there are some parents who insist on sending their child toprimary school even if the child is not ready.
