  • The Relation between Religious Education Teachers' Perceptions of
           Organizational Justice and Job Satisfaction

      Abstract: Purpose: This research conducted to determine ReligiousEducation (RE) teachers' perceptions of job satisfaction and organizational justice.In addition, the effect of organizational justice on job satisfaction will bedetermined within the scope of the study.  Design & Methodology: This study was designed in a correlational screening model, fromquantitative research methods to determine the relationship between REteachers' perceptions of organizational justice and job satisfaction. Thetarget universe of the research is 3396 RE teachers worked in 39 provinces ofIstanbul Province. The sample size determined by the proportional cluster sampling methodconsidering the 95% confidence level and the confidence interval of 5% is 389. MinnesotaJob Satisfaction Scale developed by Baycan (1985) and Polat (2007) developed byNiehoff and Moorman (1996), developed by Weiss, Dawis, England & Lofquist(1967) was used in this study. The data obtained with the measurement toolswere analyzed by the SPSS program. Findings: In the study, it was determined that RE teachers had 'mostly'perceptions of distributive, procedural and interactional justice. Likewise,the participants have 'mostly' in the sense of general organizational justice.Likewise, the participants have 'mostly' in the sense of general organizationaljustice. Participants were found to have 'moderate' individual and 'low'organizational job satisfaction. In addition, the overall level of jobsatisfaction of participants is also 'low'. However, distributional, procedural,and interactive justice differs significantly by gender, educational status,and professional tenure.  Implications & Suggestions: It is necessary that those who guide the policies ofeducation should dominate schools with a more transparent and accountablemanagement approach that does not discriminate among teachers in accordancewith ethical management principles. At this point, manager and teacherevaluation criteria can be audited and a suspended course and institutionalaudits can be made operational again.

  • Concept Images for Rational Number and Fraction of the Students at the
           Elementary Mathematics Education Department

      Abstract: Purpose: In this study, it is aimed todetermine the concept images related to the concepts of “rational number andfraction” of the students students at the Elementary Mathematics EducationDepartment based on the Concept Image Theory. Design & Methodology: This study wasdesigned in accordance with a qualitative research method. The study group ofthe study consisted of 110 students attending an University of ElementaryMathematics Education Department in the 2014-2015 academic year. “RationalNumber and Fraction Concept Image Questionnaire” developed by the researcherwas used to collect the data. In the analysis of the obtained data, contentanalysis was used in accordance with the research design. Findings: As a result of the questionnaireapplied to the students, it was seen that they mostly have a part-whole imageon the concept of fraction, and mostly the ratio image on the concept ofrational number. The difference between the rational number and the fractionconcept is that the concept of fraction cannot be negative but the concept ofrational number can be negative. Implications & Suggestions: At the end of thestudy, it is concluded that the rational number and fraction concept images ofthe students are not clear enough. The proposal can be examined in less detailby interviewing fewer students. The results can be compared with differentdepartments or students of different faculties.

  • Investigation of the Effect of POE Application in Science Education on the
           Problem Solving Skills of 6th Graders

      Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect ofusing Predict – Observe - Explain (POE) method in the unit of “Earth, the Moonand the Sun as the Source of Life’’ on the problem solving skills of 6th graders.Design & Methodology: In the study, quasi-experimental research has beenused with a pre-test, post-test control group. The study group consists of 47students who are 6thgraders in 2016-2017 educational year and aprovince in the western side of Turkey. The group with regular Science Programconsist of 24 students (13 girls and 11 boys) and the group withGuess-Observe-Explain Method consists of 23 students (13 girls and 10 boys). Inorder to identify the problem solving skills of the students, ‘’The Inventoryof Problem Solving’’ which was developed by Serin, Serin and Saygılı (2010) hasbeen used. The data which has been provided has been analyzed with singlefactorial covariance analysis by taking grades which were gained byparticipants from pre-tests under control.Findings: The research findings showed that it has been foundout that there is a slight difference between the pre-test results andpost-test results which were corrected according to pre-test results of theproblem solving skills of the students.Implications & Suggestions: This findings showedthat GOE method has positive effects on the problem solving skills of 6thGraders.Taking into account that the GOE method enhancesproblem-solving skills of students; The GOE method can also be used byresearchers in other subjects of the science class.

  • Development of Motivation Scale towards Context-Based Biology (MSCBB): A
           Study on Reliability and Validity

      Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this study is to develop a valid andreliable scale determining the students’ motivations towards context-basedbiology.  Design & Methodology: In the study, surveymethod has been used. For thisaim, previously literature was examined by the research and the 40 item-draftscale was prepared by taking the expert opinion for these initial items. Thisdraft scale, which was a five-point Likert type, applied to totally 209 (102female, 107 male) students attended to a secondary school in Kocaeli. Thevalidity and reliability analysis of the scale was done in the light of thedata obtained after the treatment.  Findings: In the result of the item analysis and the exploratoryfactor analysis, it was found that the scale had a construct of 3 factors with34 items and the total variance explained was 50.718%. Additionally, CronbachAlpha internal consistency was calculated for the reliability analyzes of thescale and it was found as .943 for the whole scale. Implications & Suggestions: In line with your research results, it was impliedthat this scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for determining thestudents’ motivations towards context-based biology.

  • Teacher Perceptions of School Managers' Power Types Used in
           Management

      Abstract: Purpose: Inthe study, it was aimed to determine whether there is a meaningful differencein terms of gender, education level, branch, school level and seniorityvariables of teacher perception about the types of power used by primary,secondary and high school managers.Design & Methodology: Descriptive research method was used in the study. The studygroup consisted of 129 teachers working in primary, secondary and high schoolin Hekimhan district of Malatya province in 2015-2016 academic year. For theteachers working at elementary, junior high and high school level in thesurvey, the "Power Type Scale Used by School Managers in SchoolManagement" was applied as a data collection tool.Findings: In the analysis of differences in terms ofgender, education level, branch, school grade, and seniority variables, femaleteachers think that school principals use more compelling power elements thanmale teachers. Similarly, according to the teachers whose education level is atthe graduate level think that school principals are using more compelling powerelements than teachers who have education level is at the associate degreelevel. Teachers at the associate-undergraduate level have been perceived tohave a higher perception of their manager's use of expertise type behaviors thanteachers at the graduate level. In addition, it has been determined that classteachers think that school principals use the power of expertise, information,and loyalty more than branch teachers. In the information power sub-dimension,it is determined that 21 year-old and above-average teachers are more likely tothink that school principals are using more of their information.Implications & Suggestions: In thedirection of research findings, the power elements that school principals usein administration directly affect the education and training activities ofteachers. In this context, school principals recognize the elements of powerand can lead teachers towards success by creating a power strategy based onsituationalism.

  • A Study of Reliability and Validity of Union Attitude Scale

      Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this study is to develop a scale in orderto determine the attitudes of the teachers to the union organizations. Design & Methodology: The experimental form created for this purpose ispresented to the expert. In accordance with the feedbacks, the items with ascope coverage rate of less than .80 were removed out of the work. The 31-itemtrial form was composed of 120 teachers who were working in the province ofSivas, with or without a trade union, and the obtained data were analyzed. TheExplicit Factor Analysis (AFA) was performed on 250 scales. Findings: As a result of the trial application, it is seen thatthere are 22 items and 3 dimensions. At the end of the exploratory factoranalysis, when the factor load was low and the two overlapping items wereremoved, a 20-item three-dimensional scale was formed. Implications & Suggestions: In this study, a scale was developed tomeasure the attitudes of the employees in the training service to the tradeunion. As a result of the research done on the field, it has been seen thattraining staff do not have sufficient data tools to measure their attitudestowards trade union organizations. This scale will also provide guidance toresearchers who will conduct research on trade union organizations of educationworkers.
