  • Character Education in Indonesian EFL Classroom: Implementation and
           Obstacles

      Abstract: The application of character education in 2013 curriculum has not been maximized. Thus, this study investigated the implementation of character education and the obstacles faced in inserting character education into EFL teaching and learning process. Establishing a survey research by distributing questionnaires to 34 EFL teachers coming from different institutions, this study revealed that the EFL teachers have inserted character education in classroom with various frequencies and also have inserted character values with different focuses. Most of them inserted character education with both explicit and implicit modes. Moreover, they faced several obstacles coming from three major aspects; they are pedagogical, student, and teacher.

  • PENGEMBANGAN BAHAN AJAR TEMATIK INTEGRATIF BERBASIS NILAI KARAKTER
           DISIPLIN DAN PERCAYA DIRI

      Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan bahan ajar tematik-integratif dengan tema “Cita-Citaku” berbasis nilai karakter disiplin dan percaya diri yang layak dan efektif untuk siswa kelas IV SD Percobaan 2. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian Research and Development (R & D) model Borg and Gall, namun hanya mengadopsi 9 tahap saja. Subyek penelitian ini sebanyak 30 siswa kelas IVA SD Percobaan 2. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan penilaian wawancara, observasi, dan penilaian produk. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah pedoman wawancara digunakan sebelum dan setelah menggunakan bahan ajar untuk mendapatkan data mengenai kelayakan dan kefektifan dari bahan ajar yang dikembangkan, lembar penilaian produk bahan ajar untuk ahli materi dan ahli media, dan lembar observasi karakter digunakan untuk mengamati karakter disiplin dan percaya diri serta. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah uji-t dengan taraf signifikansi 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahan ajar yang dikembangkan layak dan efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran. Kelayakan bahan ajar ditunjukkan dengan penilaian “baik” oleh ahli materi dengan skor 120, penilaian “baik” oleh ahli media dengan skor 52. Keefektifan dibuktikan dengan hasil   uji-t =  <  (-8,827 < 2,045)  yang artinya bahwa kenaikan rerata skor signifikan dengan nilai p sebesar 0,000 untuk karakter disiplin dan untuk karakter percaya diri hasil uji-t =  <  (-5,957 < 2,045) yang artinya bahwa kenaikan rerata skor signifikan dengan nilai p sebesar 0,000.Kata Kunci: bahan ajar, tematik integratif, nilai karakter disiplin, nilai karakter percaya diri AbstractThis study aims to produce effective and appropriateness thematically-integrated teaching materials with the theme "Cita-Citaku" based on character values of discipline and confidence for the fourth grade students of Percobaan 2 Elementary School. The type of research is a Research and Development (R & D) Borg and Gall models, but only adopted the 9 stage only. The subjects of this research in the aimed 30 students of class IVA SD Percobaan 2. The data in this study was collection using interviews, observation and assessment products. The research instrument used was the instructional material product assessment sheet for material experts and media experts, the observation sheet of characters used to observe the character of discipline and confidence. Interview guides were  used before and after the use of teaching materials to obtain of the data of appropriateness and effectiveness of the teaching materials developed. Data analyzing techniques used in this study were a t-test with a significance level of 0.05. The result of this study showed that the teaching material developed was feasible and effective used in teaching-learning. The feasibility of teaching materials was demonstrated with ratings of "good" by the material expert with a score of 120, and the assessment of "good" by the media expert with a score of 52. The effectiveness is indicated by the results of t-test = tcount < ttable (-8.827 <2.045), which means that a significant increase in mean score with p value of 0.000 for the discipline and for confident character the results of the t-test = tcount < ttable (-5.957 <2.045), which means that a significant increase in mean score with p value of 0.000.Keywords: teaching materials, thematically-integrated, disciplined character, confident character

  • KESESUAIAN KONTEKS DAN ILUSTRASI PADA BUKU BERGAMBAR UNTUK MENDIDIK
           KARAKTER ANAK USIA DINI

      Abstract: AbstrakBuku dapat menjadi media pendidikan karakter pada anak usia dini karena efektif dan efisien. Di sinilah pendidikan karakter dapat diajarkan secara halus dan mudah diterima oleh anak usia dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan kesesuaian konteks dan ilustrasi buku pendidikan karakter untuk anak usia dini berdasarkan teori desain; dan pendapat ahli tentang buku pendidikan karakter yang sesuai dengan konteks anak usia dini. Metode penelitian adalah metode kualitatif-studi kasus. Observasi dan wawancara digunakan untuk pengambilan data dan validasi menggunakan teknik triangulasi teori. Analisis menggunakan teknik analisis isi. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa (1) kesesuaian konteks dan ilustrasi buku pendidikan karakter untuk anak usia dini yang ditemukan meliputi konteks linguistik, konteks emotif, konteks situasional, ilustrasi tokoh yang memberi contoh kebaikan, warna yang cerah; dan (2) jenis buku cerita “Zayn Belajar Disiplin, buku “Aktivitas Pendikar, dan buku aktivitas-komparasi “Aku Anak Baik di Sekolah” merupakan  buku pendidikan karakter yang sesuai dengan konteks anak usia dini sehingga layak digunakan sebagai media untuk mengajarkan karakter bagi anak usia dini. Kata Kunci: konteks-ilustrasi, buku bergambar, pendidikan, karakter  AbstractBooks can be a medium of character education in early childhood because it is effective and efficient. This is where character education can be taught smoothly and easily accepted by young children. The aims of this research were describe and explain the suitability of contexts and illustrations of character education books for early childhood based on design theory; And expert opinion on character education books that fit the context of early childhood. The research method is qualitative method-case study. Observations and interviews are used for data retrieval and validation using triangulation theory techniques. Data analysis using content analysis techniques. The results of the study explain that (1) the suitability of contexts and illustrations of character education books for early childhood were found to include linguistic context, emotive context, situational context, illustration of figures that give examples of goodness, bright colors; and (2) the type of storybook "Zayn Belajar Disiplin, the book"Aktivitas Pendikar”, and the comparative activity book "Aku Anak Baik di Sekolah" are character education book appropriate to the context of early childhood so it is worthy to be used as a medium to teach character to early childhood.Keywords: Context-illustration, picture book, education, character

  • Pengembangan E-book Kepedulian Sosial Sebagai Media Pendidikan Karakter DI
           STKIP Widya Yuwana Madiun

      Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) menghasilkan e-book  kepedulian sosial sebagai media pendidikan karakter di STKIP Widya Yuwana Madiun, (2) mengetahui keefektivan e-book  kepedulian sosial sebagai media pendidikan karakter di STKIP Widya Yuwana Madiun. Metode penelitian ini mengadopsi tiga langkah pengembangan yang diformulasikan oleh Borg & Gall, Dick, Carey, & Carey, dan Allesi & Trollip. Langkah pengembangan dikelompokkan menjadi empat tahap, studi pendahuluan, desain instruksional, pengembangan multimedia, dan evaluasi. Penelitian ini menghasilkan produk e-book  kepedulian sosial dalam bentuk DVD dan buku petunjuk penggunaan. E-book  kepedulian sosial dinilai sangat layak berdasarkan perolehan rerata hasil penilaian uji alpha pada ahli media  sebesar 3,70 dan  dari ahli materi sebesar 3,60. Sedangkan pada uji beta  diperoleh skor 3,41  dengan kriteria sangat layak. Keefektivan e-book  kepedulian sosial sebagai media pendidikan karakter dinilai dari aspek pengetahuan dan aspek sikap.  Dari aspek pengetahuan dapat diketahui dari hasil  rereta pretest 59,03 dan meningkat pada saat posttest 81,77. Sedangkan dari aspek sikap ditunjukkan dengan adanya kegiatan aksi kepedulian sosial secara nyata dan keterlibatan aktif mahasiswa STKIP Widya Yuwana Madiun.   This research development aimed to: (1) develop an social care e-book as a character education media in STKIP Widya Yuwana Madiun and (2) reveal e-book effectiveness of social care as a character education media in STKIP Widya Yuwana Madiun. This development research adopted a three-step development model formulated by Borg & Gall, Dick, Carey & Carey, and Allesi & Trollip. Development steps were grouped into four stages: a) preliminary study, b) instructional design, c) multimedia development, d) and evaluation. The results of this development research was in the form of social care e-book that was packaged in the form of DVD along with user manual. Social care e-book was highly feasible based on the results of the alpha test scores with a feasibility score of 3.70 from media experts and a score of 3.60 from material experts. Based on the results of feasibility in the beta test obtained a score of 3.41 with criteria was very feasible. The effectiveness of social care e-book as a medium of character education is assessed from aspects of knowledge and attitude aspects. From the aspect of knowledge can be known from the results of pretest rail of 59.03 and increase at posttest 81.77. While from attitude aspect shown by existence of action activity of real social  care and active involvement of student of STKIP Widya Yuwana Madiun

  • PEMBELAJARAN NILAI-NILAI MORAL PADA ANAK AUTIS

      Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan pembelajaran nilai-nilai moral pada anak autis di jurusan autis SLB Negeri 1 Bantul  Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subyek penelitian ditentukan dengan purposive yaitu ketua jurusan SLBN 1 Bantul, Guru di jurusan autis SLBN 1 Bantul, orang tua siswa-siswi yang mengikuti pendidikan di jurusan autis SLBN 1 Bantul. Data dikumpulkan dengan observasi, dokumentasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses pembelajaran nilai-nilai moral pada anak autis di SLBN 1 Bantul terintegrasi dalam program pembelajaran fungsional, pembelajaran tematik, pembelajaran benah diri. Strategi yang digunakan guru dalam mengajarkan nilai-nilai moral pada anak autis yakni dengan melibatkan orang tua dalam pendidikan anak autis. Orang tua di ikut sertakan pada setiap pembelajaran yang berkaitan dalam membentuk prilaku dan sikap anak autis serta pembelajaran nilai-nilai moral, misalnya progam pembelajaran fungsional dan benah diri.

           TEACHER’S PROFESSION

      Abstract: This article discusses the study in the implementation of character education through ethics courses and teacher profession in the Department of Sociology Education, Social Science Faculty, Yogyakarta State University. The background is the challenges of education in the future that lies in the effort in preparing prospective teachers who have the character. It is answer various problems of the times. Teacher education in colleges needs to prepare prospective teachers of character by integrating character education. So ethics and teacher training courses are relevant to the character education process as an effort to implement character values for future teachers. The discussion focused on several studies, namely 1) Character Education for Prospective Teachers, 2) Character Education through Ethics and Teacher Training Classes, 3) Preparing Guidelines for Ethics and Teacher Training by Integrating Character Values, 4) Innovative Lecturing Methods integrating Values- Character Values, 5) Evaluation of Character Education Process through Theater Lectures.
