  • Dayah and Meunasah: Abu Teupin Raya is the reformer of Islamic Education
           in Aceh

      Abstract: Abu Teupin Raya also called by Tengku H. Muhammad Ali Irsyad is the most influential Ulama in Aceh. In fact, he has contributed guarding in Islamic education such as establishing Dayah Darussa’adah and has been preserving dakwah on Islamic tradition with various writing on Islamic studies. Since 1967, according to the tradition view of dayah, he is keeping pesantren to develop with many models of Quantity and Quality education in Indonesia. In addition, he has 23 book papers with local language and Arabic handwriting. With the information above, this paper uses qualitative research methods and will be explore to the act Abu Teupin Raya to build dayah in Aceh where the legacy of the script kitab kuning is written for improving Islamic education in Aceh.

  • Abdullah Nashih ‘Ulwan’s Technological Contribution toward the
           Development of Islamic Early Childhood Education

      Abstract: The development of science and technology has an impact on the use of technology in education. The application of educational technology in learning is aimed at creating more effective, efficient, and meaningful learning for children. Meanwhile, Islam, which is revealed as a paradigm, explains that education is the best way in developing human nature as well as human resources towards the formation of ‘Insan Kamil’. One of the notable Moslem thinkers worthen to be discussed in this case study is Abdullah Nashih 'Ulwan who has written a monumental work in education entitled ‘Tarbiyatul Aulad fil Islam’. This study sought answers to Ulwan's contributions in the development of early childhood education. The results of this study show that Ulwan's thought cannot be separated from a particular movement namely ‘Ikhwanul Muslimin’. The critical foundation of Ulwan's thinking on child education is essentially derived from his thinking about fitrah. Fitrah, according to ‘Ulwan, is a nature in which humans have a tendency of innate good and evil. Therefore, children at their early age require particular forms of conditioning to develop learners’ type of personality through three approaches namely: the formulation of appropriate child education methods, the establishment of educator readiness and attachment to children, and the conditioning of early childhood education environments.

  • Mukhtar Yahya and the Method of Teaching Arabic: The Analysis of Muhadasah
           Method in the Perspective of Behaviorism Theory

      Abstract: This research aims to explore about Mukhtar Yahya and his thoughts on the method of Muhadasah in Arabic teaching and learning which was analyzed through behaviorism learning theory. This is a qualitative research using historical and psychological approaches. The historical approach is used since Mukhtar Yahya as the figure being discussed had passed away. While the psychological approach is used to analyze Muktar Yahya’s Muhadasah method. The results show that, first, Mukhtar Yahya was a figure who had a big role for the birth of the State Islamic College (PTAIN) and Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic Institute (IAIN). During his role in PTAIN and IAIN Sunan Kalijaga, Mukhtar Yahya held important positions; even he frequently took on double positions in IAIN. In his academic career, Mukhtar Yahya was a highly qualified intellectual in the fields of religion and Arabic language. His ability was influenced by his intellectual brilliance and accompanied by a high spirit in studying religion. Second, the psychological approach shows that the Mukhtar Yahya’s Muhadasah method was strongly influenced by behaviorism learning theory. Although Mukhtar Yahya did not state explicitly that his methods were influenced by behaviorism learning theory, the theory was highly visible in the learning steps. In this method, learning process will occur by the presence of stimulus which then produces learning responses from students.

  • The Thoughts of KH. Djamaluddin Amin about the Integration of NU and
           Muhammadiyah Education in Islamic Educational Institution in Eastern
           Indonesia

      Abstract: This study aims to reveal the biography of KH Djamaluddin Amien and his thoughts. He was a generator figure of social and education movement that began with the emphasis on the development of educational facilities ranging from Kindergarten (TK / TPQ Raudhatul Athfal), Elementary School, Madrasah Tsanawiyah and Aliyah. In addition, he also built a mosque in Karaeng land, Bissoloro, Gowa District. The personality of KH Djamaluddin Amien as a figure of Muhammadiyah in South Sulawesi had its own characteristics especially in his thoughts on religious education, curriculum renewal, and teaching method by combining the teaching methods of KH Ahmad Dahlan and KH Hasyim Asy'ari. Character education model is through religious extracurricular by combining elements of religious study and general sciences in elementary and madrasah by using classical system. The developed concept of education is multicultural, open to change, emphasis on discussion and dialogue, and social spirit. He was also active in teaching the yellow book by applying the Sorogan and Bandongan methods. The Kyai chose a simple life accompanied by visionary and consistent thoughts against the stagnation in thinking and doing good deeds. Keywords: Biografi K.H. Djamaluddin Amien, Pendidikan Multikultural Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap biografi tokoh KH Djamaluddin Amien dan pemikirannya. Beliau adalah sosok pembangkit gerakan sosial pendidikan yang dimulai dengan menitikberatkan pada pembangunan sarana pendidikan mulai dari T.K/ T.P.Q Raudhatul Athfal, Sekolah Dasar, Madrasah Tsanawiyah dan Aliyah. Selain itu juga membangun Masjid di tanah Karaeng, Bissoloro Kabupaten Gowa. Kepribadian KH Djamaluddin Amien sebagai tokoh Muhammadiyah di Sulawesi Selatan mempunyai karakteristik tersendiri khususnya pada pemikirannya di bidang pendidikan Agama, Pembaharuan Kurikulum, dan Metode Pengajaran dengan memadukan Model pengajaran K.H. Ahmad Dahlan dengan K.H. Hasyim Asy’ari. Model pendidikan karakter melalui ekstrakurikuler keagamaan dengan memadukan unsur ilmu agama dan ilmu-ilmu umum di Sekolah Dasar dan Madrasah dengan menggunakan sistim klasikal. Konsep pendidikan yang dikembangkan bersifat multikultur terbuka dengan perubahan, mengedepankan diskusi dan dialog, serta berjiwa sosial.  Beliau juga aktif dalam mengajarkan kitab kuning dengan menerapkan metode Sorogan dan Bandongan. Pak Kiyai memilih hidup sederhana yang dibarengi dengan pemikiran yang berkemajuan dan konsisten melawan kejumudan berfikir dan beramal.  Kata Kunci: Biografi K.H.   • Idham Chalid and Normal Islam Educational Reform in Amuntai South

      Abstract: This article focused on the efforts of Kiai Haji Dr. Idham Khalid as a leader in the Pesantren Normal Islam Amuntai South Kalimantan. He leads the pesantren in the context that the society need of renewal efforts of Islamic educational aspects in the midst of the country's struggle for independence. This research is important because the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) Rasyidiyah Khalidiyah Amuntai South Kalimantan until today remains maintaining its tradition and at the same time developing it with normal Islam conception to perpetuate it as one madrasah under the largest Pesantren in South Kalimantan. This study used literature and interview as methods. The paper finds that the role of Kiai Haji Dr. Idham Chalid in educational reform at boarding schools occurs by changing its dynamics through proposed and evolutive forms. The forms are: a conservative at the initial phase; reformative in the middle of his leadership and transformative in the period of Pesantren Rasyidiyah Khalidiyah. These findings are based on a number of aspects of education being examined, they are: the aspect of the pesantren education goals by analysing the dynamic of the curriculum, and the flexible aspect by examining its persistency in maintaining classical books of Islam. The latter is to maintain the tradition of moderate clerics in the reproduction of Madrasah (schooling) by integrating the classical books and the modern literatures. Organizational survival strategy was developed by diversifying the variants of boarding school institutions which is influenced by Kyai’s leadership using synergy and collaboration approach to prepare with cadre for organizational sustainability.

This article aims to examine the contribution K.H. Hasyim Asy’ari on the developing on Indonesia Islamic Education. This research uses qualitative method with literary research. The paper presents a scientific issue on the contribution K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari Thoughts for Indonesia Islamic Education. First, the developing Education takes by pondok pesantren Tebuireng Jombang. Second, the improving Education goes from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) organization. Third, the witting education makes the development of kitab kuning. The three points will be discussing in this paper.

           Islamic Education Renewal in South Thailand

      Abstract: Since Pattani region entered into a nation state of Thailand there have been various policies of assimilation toward the people of Southern Thailand. Until the present time, this policy has caused a conflict to both sides. The main problem is not about religious issues, but the ethnicity to maintain Malay-Muslim identity from Thai-Buddhist threats. Efforts to understand each other's identity, both Malay-Islamic and Thai-Buddhist can be continuously explored, such as: Islamic values ​​as ummatan wasathan and Buddha’s Majjhima-patipada oriented to the idea of ​​"middle way". Efforts to understand each other can be done through education starting from Early Childhood Education to Higher Education. Efforts to understand both identities can also be done by a figure, such as Haji Sulong. Haji Sulong's struggle was initially prioritized the renewal of the Islamic Education System in Pattani, both the management and the curriculum. But along with the royal policy that continues to pressure the people of Southern Thailand, Haji Sulong also plunged into the political world. Haji Sulong heroic values ​​can be a transformative spirit for the people of South Thailand, such as: (1) Innovative value, (2) Caring values, (3) Values ​​of love/empathy, (4) Prudence, (5) The value of self-control, (6) The value of justice, (7) The value of courage, and etc.
