  • Utopias e ingenuidades da educação ambiental'

  • Barriers of educational practice in the use of information and
           communications technology

Abstract: The use of information and communications technology (ICT) in education has resulted in contradictory situations in the teaching circle. Although teachers recognize its value in education, their experience in situations calling for integration shows difficulties in building and the mediation of knowledge. This paper presents the results of research on the barriers faced by teachers in the integration of ICT into their practice, in Brazilian schools. The methodology involved the analysis of the pedagogical projects of teacher training programs (called 'licenciaturas' in Brazil), interviews with coordinators and questionnaires with teachers. The results point to a teacher interested in using ICT in their practice, aware of its potential, but lacking the knowledge to make use of these in teaching-learning situations. Some situations that, in principle, had been regarded as "barriers" were configured effectively as "obstacles" to the teaching practice. Three obstacle groups were identified: structural, epistemological and didactic. Some proposals are presented to provide the identification of the obstacles and strategies to overcome them.
  • Aspects of pedagogical practice considered in the elaboration of a
multimedia case for training of teachers who teach mathematics

Abstract: This article aims to discuss aspects of pedagogical practice considered by a research group in the development of a multimedia case to be used in mathematics teacher education (MTE). Qualitative research, of an interpretative character, was carried out, and analysis of the information focused on the negotiations of meanings and reflections shared by the members of this group, in the elaboration of a multimedia case, in three projects: paper discussion and elaboration of a framework, discussion of Portuguese multimedia cases and the structuring of a multimedia case "The collars". For presentation of the results, we associated the set of aspects of teaching practice mobilized by the group based on the planning and practice of a teacher protagonist of the multimedia case "The Collars". These aspects reveal the expectations of the group and the exploitation of multimedia cases in the MTE, as an opportunity to build and develop the professional identity of (future) teachers who teach mathematics.
  • "Math' I work first with the concrete": elements for educational
           history of pedagogical common sense

Tal herança é reelaborada e chega aos dias atuais sobretudo a partir do uso de materiais didático-pedagógicos para o ensino do sistema de numeração decimal.: The purpose of this paper is to analyze one of the elements present in the school culture of teaching math in the early school years: teaching common sense that indicates how correct the way of teaching is at this level of education ie "work first in the concrete." The analysis is performed by means of a historical study of published articles from pedagogical magazines in the last decade of the nineteenth century.
Authors are considered who studied so-called Cultural History. As a result, it appears that "working first in the concrete" is the pedagogical heritage of the movement for intuitive teaching, an international movement that constituted a true pedagogical counterculture in the last decades of the last century. This heritage is redesigned and comes into its own today especially the use of didactic and pedagogical materials for education on the numbering system.
  • The reverberation of the environmental crisis: an archaeological analysis
of the discourse of science teachers

Abstract: This research analysed the discourses of nine Science teachers of Maringa-PR municipality within the 'to be - to know' Foucault's domain, emphasizing the questioning of sayings and statements that guided the understanding of science and environmental crisis by identifying potential practices in Environmental Education (EE). The core of this research was the examination of discursive manifestations about science, through the way the composition of statements resonated in approaches to EE, understood by discursive elements put into circulation. For the procedural aspect of the discourse analysis, we assumed the archaeological domain opting for systematization of the corpus in different analysis foci, in the light of the notion of discursive formation, taken as a key concept, not stopping only on priori categories, but its recurrences and discontinuities. Although a transition of statements about science was identified, when applied to the environmental crisis the presented results pointed out naturalized discourses, accompanied by the belief that technical-scientific devices will orient its solution.
  • Environmental education and the cognitive and affective dimensions from
the work with values: the production of meanings

Abstract: From the context of the socio-environmental crisis, we envisage the contribution of the Environmental Education as a way of confronting and proposing of new ways for the relation between society and nature. We propose the reintroduction and/or construction of new values that must involve affective and reflective aspects in order to project new patterns of individual relations with the nature and society. In a qualitative perspective, we analyzed the meaning making in the dialogues in episodes of teaching that occurred between the teacher and the students regarding environmental themes and values especially considering the cognitive and affective dimensions. We verified that the articulation among these dimensions have resulted in a significant work with values, amplifying the probabilities of its construction. Between the aesthetic appreciation of a green area and the proposition of a dilemma, there is an intentionality of the teacher, limits and possibilities of these activities with the senses that are produced, constituting novel ways of speaking about the relationship between society and nature.
  • Beyond green spaces in school: analysis of conceptions about environmental
education linked to the exhibition of environmental education's purpose in

Abstract: In this work, we set our goal to identify and discuss the conceptions about environmental education, which are present in the aims of the Exhibition of Environmental Education of the State Teaching Network in Ceará (MEA). We employed a qualitative investigation paradigm and surveyed the event organizers, who are also environmental education (EA) teachers in the state of Ceará. After this initial phase, we matched the survey's data with the documented data from the event notices. Based on Content Analysis, we analysed themes, words and expressions that are either close or distant from the EA perspectives described in the literature. We considered that MEA's purpose presents different EA perspectives such as conservationist, scientific, vigorous and critical ideas. Additionally, the search for projects that make social and curricular transformations is present in this event's pedagogic scope.
  • Scientific inquiry and transfers of meaning on food education in
           elementary school

Abstract: The aim of this study on conceptual learning in science teaching is to analyze scientific inquiry based on the subject Food Education and its transfers of meaning. Initially, survey activities were conducted in order to recognize prior knowledge of students and later, ninth grade students of Elementary School had contact with a didactic sequence of five investigative activities related to the subject. Inquiry was based on National Research Council references and conducted weekly. After that, four challenging activities containing problem situations were applied in order to investigate if transfers of meaning from inquiry to the new situations occured. Comparing the data obtained, it was possible to see that students had a satisfactory performance when they had to distinguish concepts related to food, nutrients, vitamins and minerals. These were better understood than some minerals and their functions in the body.
  • Health education through dialogue processes, and the self-care of the deaf

Abstract: This qualitative study through action research, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dialogic processes in Sign Language, in health education, promoting the self-care of deaf adolescents. For the data collection, semi-structured interviews were held, with five deaf adolescents from a city in the south of Minas Gerais state. The data analysis was done through categorization using the influence of Paulo Freire. The results showed the lack of autonomy and awareness of actions for the self-care. In the educational action performed by the Dialogue Circles, it was found that deaf adolescents were motivated to interact and reflect on the meaning of status quo changes and about the roles of receptors and constructors of knowledge on self-care. In conclusion there is need motivating students to form new habits aiming at the formation of autonomous citizens, responsible for their own health, and taking into account their language singularities as a deaf person.

Abstract: This study verified the knowledge of elementary school teachers about the school's role in shaping the students' eating habits. The paper describes a longitudinal study, qualitative and quantitative, conducted in public schools in the city of Amargosa, BA, which were immersed in an Education Program of Work for Health (PET/Health) for a period of three months. We used a structured questionnaire addressing issues of nutrition and health. It revealed the successes and mistakes made before and after the program intervention. The sample was composed of 14 teachers, with a median age of 41 years, most of them, pedagogues. There was statistical difference in the question of the importance of school in forming eating habits of children (p = 0.0425). It was concluded that teachers recognized the school's role in shaping the students' eating habits and were recognized themselves as key players in promoting healthy eating and quality of life at school.
  • Many ways of thinking the concept of chemical substance in science history
           and its relational view

Abstract: The concept of substance is considered important, because it is the basis for learning other content. In its historical development, we find ways of speaking related to ways of thinking, which are organized into five zones of a conceptual profile: generalist, essentialist (utilitarist/pragmatic), substantialist, rationalist and relational. Concepts of the relational zone are rarely discussed in the classroom. The relational view discussion is important because it allows students to become aware of certain behaviors of substances. This article aims to provide a brief account of the historical development of the concept of substance, covering five zones of the conceptual profile, highlighting the concepts of the relational zone. It points not only to the need for extensive discussion of this concept in classroom but also to the need for research on teaching methods that promote these discussions, taking into account both, the relational view and the ideas of other zones of the conceptual profile.
  • Project Conceptual Maps: a tool for designing meaningful learning objects

Abstract: This paper presents a methodology designed for a project on meaningful learning objects called Project Based on Learning Trajectories (PBLT). This methodology considers a metaphor where the student’s previous knowledge are starting points, the educational objectives are considered destination points and the learning objects are roads connecting the starting points to destination points. A differentiated Conceptual Map called Project’s Conceptual Map is a tool intended to define relations between the previous knowledge of the students (starting points) and the educational objectives (destination points). The theoretical basis of this proposed method includes Meaningful Learning Theory and Cognitive Load Theory. Previous studies are referenced as evidence of the proposed methodology’s effectiveness.
  • A methodological proposal for supervised curricular stage of distance
education: articulations between Kellyan Experience Cycle and Cooperative

Abstract: This article analyzes some outcomes of research about a methodological proposal for the supervised curricular stage of Distance Education. The research was theoretically based on George Kelly’s Personal Construct Theory, with an emphasis on the Kellyan Experience Cycle (KEC), linked to the Cooperative Learning Method. In this article, besides the methodological proposal, we have the objective of analyzing the conceptions of two groups of subjects. One of subjects, one integrated by representatives of the partnerships between university and schools, about the aspects that favor and/or difficult the performance of the trainee in the school context, and the other by future Physics teachers, in relation to the choice of the “Physics teacher” profession and to the aspects that they consider as the most relevant in high school teaching practice. We will also analyze the contributions of the KEC experience and the work with the Cooperative Group, to the initial training of teachers, in Distance Education format.
  • Valuing the Guarani-Kaiowá culture through space and time teaching

Abstract: This paper presents the results of a didactic intervention, carried out by a physics teacher, involving the concepts of time and space for indigenous students of Mato Grosso do Sul State, in Brazil. It is a qualitative research in an exploratory approach. The analysis' corpus consists of two sets of data: a) a pre-test involving the notion of space and time of the indigenous students and b) an activity on time and space measurement strategies. Data collection was taken during physics classes, with a sample of 13 students, ranging in age from 18 to 29 years. It was observed that measurements of space and time through traditional strategies are still present, although many indigenous people do not value this knowledge. All traditional knowledge that can be brought into thinking at school, along with scientific knowledge, contribute to a broader understanding and rethinking about these meanings for indigenous students.
  • Investigative activities in the training of science teachers: a field
class in the Barreiras Formation of Marataízes, ES

Abstract: The creative use of non-formal settings can help to surpass the traditional teaching in schools, providing, through interdisciplinary, the construction of values, knowledge and skills, for approaching for example the Earth System. Field classes emerge as an important methodology for understanding the relationship between living space and information constructed in the classroom, allowing students to have a better familiarity with physical and natural aspects of their region. This paper reports research in the field of methodology of science teaching, which took place on a non-formal educational setting, the cliffs of Marataízes, Espírito Santo State, in Brazil. The investigation aimed to highlight the field classes as a teaching methodology able to encourage critical reading of the world and collaborative work. The field lessons revealed the inseparability between subject and object of learning and provided opportunities to recognize man/environment relationships, allowing the acquisition of awareness of the transformations in nature through the means of scientific literacy.
  • Analysis of science curricula in the light of Bernstein's theory

Abstract: This study presents a bibliographical review carried out in periodicals of the Education area, on researches that analysed curricula of Natural Sciences with theoretical foundation of the sociological assumptions of Bernstein. The results point out that the Sociology of Classroom Studies (ESSA), University of Lisbon, has developed researches with this focus mainly in Portugal. It is also verified that the main part of the studies were developed from analyses of curricula of Sciences of Basic Education. The review of these studies shows that the concept of re-contextualization was the most present theme in the publications, in which the official pedagogical discourse is analysed in relation to the pedagogical discourse of reproduction of teaching materials, teaching practice and the relationship between school and community. The research points out the reduction of the complexity of scientific knowledge and investigative skills in the re-contextualization process.
