  • Attitudes et risque environnemental liés à l’utilisation de sachets
           plastiques: cas De L’université d’Abomey-Calavi au Bénin

      Abstract: La problématique de la prise de risque environnemental est une préoccupation dans le contexte actuel de la protection de l’environnement au Bénin. L’objectif de cette étude est de vérifier le type de relation qui existe entre les attitudes, le genre et la prise de risque environnemental à travers l’utilisation des sachets plastiques. Grâce à un questionnaire qui mesure les attitudes, l’intention des étudiants, les facteurs sociodémographiques et d’autres facteurs de la théorie du comportement planifié (norme sociale, contrôle comportemental perçu), nous avons collecté les données de l’étude à partir d’un échantillon aléatoire simple de 148 étudiants. Le logiciel SPSS a servi au traitement des données. L’analyse de corrélation et l’analyse des régressions ont servi à analyser les données. Les résultats obtenus montrent l’existence d’une relation croissante entre les attitudes, le genre et la prise de risque environnemental à travers l’utilisation des sachets plastiques. Nous avons poursuivi les analyses avec des régressions qui ont déterminé les meilleurs prédicteurs des comportements des étudiants vis-à-vis de l’utilisation des sachets plastiques. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between environmental attitudes and risk taking through the use of plastic bags by students. Therefore, we tested the hypothesis that there is a link between environmental attitudes and risks taking through the use of plastic bags. By the means of a questionnaire which measures attitudes, intention of the students, sociodemographic factors and other factors of the theory of the strategic behavior (social standard, received behavioral control), we collected data on 148 students. SPSS software was used for the data analysis. Results from our correlation and regression analyses show that there is a positive relationship between attitudes, gender and environmental risk taken through the use of plastic bags. These results will contribute to improve the quality of the interventions in order to promote environmentally responsible behavior.Keywords: attitudes, environmental risk taken, plastic bag, intent

  • Connaissances ethnobotaniques et conservation de Lophira lanceolata
           (Ochnaceae) au Bénin (Afrique de l’Ouest)

      Abstract: La connaissance des rapports existants entre les êtres humains, leur milieu de vie et leur culture est très importante pour une gestion durable des ressources naturelles. L’objectif de l’étude était de capitaliser les connaissances endogènes sur les utilisations de Lophira lanceolata Tiegh. ex Keay au Bénin. Il a été effectué une enquête ethnobotanique sur la base d’un questionnaire semi-structuré administré à 1261 personnes choisies au hasard et appartenant à vingt neuf (29) groupes sociolinguistiques. Les taux de réponse ont été calculés et les histogrammes de fréquence ont été réalisés. Le test khi-2 de Pearson a permis de ressortir les liens existants entre les groupes sociolinguistiques et les utilisations des parties de la plante. Le test de proportion a permis de ressortir les différences significatives de proportion des enquêtés par rapport à leur perception sur la dynamique des populations de L. lanceolata suivant leur groupe sociolinguistique et leur sexe. Cette étude a révélé que l’espèce est connue sous différentes appellations locales. Soixante seize (76) usages différents ont été rapportés et la majorité concerne la médecine traditionnelle (76,62 % des usages rapportés par les enquêtés). La feuille était l’organe le plus utilisé et les maladies les plus traitées étaient le paludisme et la fièvre jaune. Compte tenu de l’importance socioculturelle de l’espèce, il parait opportun d’encourager son intégration dans les systèmes agroforestiers, sa protection hors de son habitat naturel que sont les savanes pour une meilleure conservation de cette phyto-ressource.Mots clés: Faux karité, usage multiple, gestion durable, dynamique, connaissances endogènesEnglish Title: Ethnobotanical knowledge and conservation of Lophira lanceolata (Ochnaceae) in Benin (West Africa)English Knowledge of existing relationships among human, their environment and their culture is timely for the sustainable management of natural resources. The aim of this study was to assess indigenous knowledge on L. lanceolata Tiegh. ex Keay in Benin. An ethnobotanical survey was carried out based on a semistructured questionnaire administered to 1261 local population randomly selected from twenty nine (29) sociolinguistic groups. Frequency of citation was calculated and histograms were built. The Pearson Chi-2 test helped highlight the links between the different sociolinguistic groups and plant part use. The test of proportion was used to highlight the significant differences in proportion of respondents on the dynamics of populations of L. lanceolata by socio-linguistic groups and sex of respondents. This study revealed that the species is known by local people as revealed by the variability of names. Seventy six (76) different uses have been reported and the majority involves traditional medicine (76.62 % of use reported by respondents). The leaf was the most used organ and the most treated diseases were malaria and yellow fever. Taking into account the sociocultural importance of the species, it is important to encourage its integration into agroforestry systems, and its protection outside its natural habitat for better preservation of this phyto-resource.Keywords : False shea, multiple-use, sustainable management, dynamics, endogenous knowledge

  • Facteurs influençant l’intensité de l’utilisation des semences
           améliorées de maïs au Bénin

      Abstract: Au Bénin, des nouvelles semences améliorées de maïs ont été introduites dans diverses localités du pays pour contribuer à l’amélioration de la productivité du maïs. Le présent article a pour objectif d’évaluer les déterminants de l’intensité de l’utilisation des semences améliorées de maïs dans les zones favorables à cette culture au Bénin. L’étude contribue à l’amélioration de l'efficacité des services de recherche et de vulgarisation et de politique agricole, pour accroître la productivité des agriculteurs. Cette étude a été réalisée dans les zones agro-écologiques de production du maïs au Bénin. Les données ont été collectées sur un échantillon de 490 producteurs. Il ressort des résultats que les variables "quantité de semence utilisée", "formation particulière reçue sur l’utilisation des semences améliorées", "nombre d’années d’expérience dans la production" et "part sur 10 du revenu agricole annuel qui provient de la production de maïs" sont celles qui influencent l’intensité de l’utilisation des semences améliorées de maïs.Mots clés: Semence améliorée de maïs, adoption, intensité d’utilisation, modèle Tobit, BéninEnglish Title: Factors affecting the intensity of the use of improved maize seeds in BeninEnglish In Benin, new improved maize seeds were introduced to improve maize productivity in various places. The research contributes to the improvement of the effectiveness of the agricultural policy and agricultures services of research centers to increase the productivity of the farmers. The study was conducted in the agro-ecological zones of maize production in Benin, where data were collected on a sample of 490 producers.   • Caractérisation des systemes de production à base de maïs dans les
           principales zones de culture au Bénin

      Abstract: La présente recherche vise à caractériser les systèmes de production à base de maïs au Bénin pour un appui-conseil ciblé aux producteurs de maïs. La base de sondage est la base de données du sous-projet "Centre National de Spécialisation sur le Maïs", exécuté par l’Institut National des Recherches Agricoles du Bénin, sur financement du Projet de Productivité Agricole en Afrique de l’Ouest, dans les huit zones agroécologiques du Bénin. L’analyse a été appliquée à un extrait de 411 exploitants maïzicoles issus de trois zones agroécologiques de façon aléatoire. Les villages échantillonnés concernent ceux ayant produit du maïs au cours de la campagne agricole 2012-2013. Sur cet échantillon, il a été procédé, à l’aide des logiciels SPSS 16.0 et R, à une classification des systèmes de production. Les résultats de la typologie des exploitations à l’aide de l’Analyse en Composantes Principales et de la Classification Ascendante Hiérarchique montrent qu’il se dégage quatre systèmes de production que sont : grandes exploitations à production intensive, exploitations moyennes, petites exploitations de subsistance peu productives optant pour la sécurité alimentaire de l’exploitant, et très grandes exploitations à production extensive à gros investissements.Mots-clés: Caractérisation, typologie, analyses multivariées, maïs, BéninEnglish Title: Characterization of maize’s production systems in the main cropping zones of BeninEnglish The purpose of this research is to characterize maize production systems in Benin for targeted support to maize producers. The results of the typology of the farms using the Principal Component Analysis and the Hierarchical Ascending Classification show that there are four production systems: large farms with intensive production system, medium farms system, small  subsistence farms system opting for the farmer’s food security of the farmer, and very large extensive farms with large investments.Keywords : Characterization, typology, multivariate analysis, maize, Benin

  • Déterminants terminants sociotechniques et économiques de la
           dégradation des forêts de mangrove dans la lagune cotière du Bénin

      Abstract: Le Bénin dispose d’importantes ressources forestières de mangrove dans la lagune côtière, mais qui de nos jours sont soumises à de fortes pressions anthropiques. L’objectif de cette recherche a été d’analyser les facteurs sociotechniques et économiques déterminant la dégradation de ces mangroves à partir d’un échantillon de 150 ménages menant des activités ayant d’impact sur ces mangroves. Un modèle de régression logistique binomiale a été utilisé pour appréhender ces facteurs. Les résultats montrent que le recul des mangroves est effectif et une forte dépendance des enquêtés vis-à-vis de ces mangroves. Il en résulte aussi que la coupe abusive des palétuviers de la mangrove, l’utilisation des feux de brousse et le défrichement des berges de la lagune expliquent la perception de la dégradation de la mangrove. Ces formations de mangrove sont de plus en plus dégradées du fait des actions anthropiques telles que la pêche, l’agriculture et la préparation de sel.Mots clés: Mangroves, palétuviers, dégradation, perception, BéninEnglish Title: Sociotechnical and economic determinants of the degradation of mangrove forests in the coastal lagoon of BeninEnglish Benin has significant mangrove forest resources in the coastal lagoon, but these days are subject to strong anthropogenic pressures. The objective of this research was to analyse the socio-technical and economic factors determining the degradation of these mangroves from a sample of 150 households carrying out activities having an impact on these mangroves. A binomial logistic regression model was used to understand these factors. The results show that the decline in mangroves is effective and the respondents are highly dependent on these mangroves. The abusive cutting of mangrove, the use of bush fires, and the excessive clearing of the banks of the lagoon explain the perception of the degradation of these mangroves.   • Sacred and totemic plants among thirty two ethnic groups in Burkina Faso:
           implications for biodiversity conservation

      Abstract: In Burkina Faso, traditions, beliefs and socio-religious considerations play a key role in plant diversity conservations. This study aims to evaluate the diversity of sacred species and totemic species according to the different ethnic groups of Burkina Faso and to determine the influence of these taboos on the conservation of biodiversity. A sample of 2503 people from 32 ethnic groups were investigated in 330 villages based on the liveliness of cultural practices. Floral and dendrometric surveys were carried out in 20 x 50 m plots in villages where the species are considered sacred and / or totemic and in villages where the inhabitants have no taboo for the species. As results, some 29 plants were listed as totemic and 26 as sacred by the informants. Stereospermum kunthianum is the most quoted species by the respondents as being banned from use (97.86 % citation). The most cited sacred species are Khaya senegalensis, Adansonia digitata, Ceiba pentandra, Tamarindus indica, Afzelia africana, Balanites aegyptiaca, Diospyros mespiliformis, Ficus thonningii. Considering the diversity of sacred or totemic plants, similar ethnic groups are : Mossi-Gourmantché (Cs = 0.72), Lobi- Gan (Cs = 0.69), Birifo-Gan (Cs = 0.65), Dagara- Pougouli (Cs = 0.63), Mossi-Fulsé (Cs = 0.61), Dagara-Birifor (Cs = 0.61), Lobi-Dagara (Cs = 0.78), Lobi-Birifor (Cs = 0.75), Gourmantché-Bisa (Cs = 0.66). It is therefore necessary to encourage traditional values when they are effective in the conservation of biological diversity in Burkina Faso.Keywords: Biodiversity, ethnic groups, sacred plants, totemic plants, Burkina Faso
