  • A Grey DEMATEL Integrated Approach to Determine Third Party Logistics
           Service Provider Selection Criteria

    • Authors: Ejder Ayçin
Abstract: Third-party logistics (3PL) services have seen significant growth in recent years as a result of playing a key role in supply chain management. The demand for 3PL service providers has increased as companies offer better service to their customers, lower costs and gain competitive advantage. This paper includes an application that will help determine the most important criteria in the selection and evaluation of 3PL service providers. The aim of the paper is to be able to determine the selection criteria of the 3PL service providers and the relationships between them, from the point of view of companies already using logistics services outsourcing. For this purpose, grey system theory and DEMATEL approach are integrated in order to describe uncertain and complex decisions with definite numerical values and determine the relations and importance levels between the criteria. The findings revealed interrelations between criteria and presented the most important criteria for 3PL provider selection. It is believed that the results of the paper will help the managers to propose a model that can be implemented with the selection criteria of the 3PL service provider.

  • Why Do Consumers Behave Differently in Personal Information Disclosure and
Self-Disclosure' The Role of Personality Traits and Privacy Concern

    • Authors: Erdem Özkan
Abstract: The aim of this study is to explain differences between consumers' personal information disclosure to companies (IDC behavior) and self-disclosure in social media (SDM behavior) based on personality traits, privacy concern and types of disclosed personal information. The population consisted of consumers who are 18 and over, have one or more social media accounts, and live in Turkey. The data were collected via the online survey method and analyzed by structural equation modeling. As a result of the analyses, it was found that consumers' IDC behavior and SDM behavior differ from each other depending on the disclosed personal information. It was also found that the personality traits have direct and indirect effects on both consumers' personal information disclosure and their self-disclosure in social media, and the privacy concern was the main reason for indirect effects. Accordingly, each of these disclosure behaviors was affected by different personality traits, and the dominant traits shape them. In conclusion, it has been determined that the personality traits and privacy concern have significant roles in the differences between IDC behavior and SDM behavior.

  • Adapting EFQM Excellence Model for Public Transport Operators: A Case of
           IETT, Istanbul’s Public Bus Operator

    • Authors: Muhammet Deveci; Fatih Canıtez
Abstract: There are several management approaches being utilized in public transport operators to achieve organizational performance. EFQM excellence model, promoted by the European Foundation for Quality Management, helps organizations achieve sustainable excellence with its holistic management framework. One of the most outstanding features of EFQM model is its balanced and holistic perspective for organizational performance based on continuous improvement approach to exceed the stakeholders’ expectations. In this study, we examine the way EFQM excellence model has been adapted and implemented for urban public transport operators through a case study of Istanbul’s public bus operator, IETT. The results of the case demonstrate the adaptation processes of the fundamental concepts of the model to a public transport operator’s organizational context, thus, providing an applicable management model for other public transport operators as well. EFQM excellence model has been adopted for the first time in a public transport company, therefore the results have significant implications to enhance quality initiatives in public transport operators, in particular, and urban mobility, in general.

  • A Clustering Based Classifier Ensemble Approach to Corporate Bankruptcy

    • Authors: Aytuğ Onan
Abstract: Corporate bankruptcy prediction is an important research direction in finance. Building a robust prediction scheme for bankruptcy can be beneficial to several stakeholders, including management organizations, government and stockholders. Ensemble learning is a well-known technique to improve the predictive performance of classification algorithms by decreasing the generalization error and enhancing the classification accuracy. It has been a well-established technique in bankruptcy prediction to enhance the predictive performance. Diversity plays an essential role in constructing robust ensemble classification schemes. In this paper, a clustering based classifier ensemble approach is presented for corporate bankruptcy prediction. In this scheme, k-means algorithm is utilized to obtain diversified training subsets. Based on the subsets, each base learning algorithms are trained and the predictions of base learning algorithms are combined by a majority voting scheme. In the empirical analysis, four classification algorithms (namely, C4.5 algorithm, k-nearest neighbour algorithm, support vector machines and logistic regression) and three ensemble learning methods (Bagging, AdaBoost and Random Subspace) are evaluated.

  • Discrete Survival Time Models: An Application on Marriage Duration

    • Authors: Hilal Ölmez Hosta; Nihal Ata Tutkun
Abstract: In survival analysis which is used in the social and physical sciences, it is usually assumed that the observed process is continuous. Since this assumption is not appropriate for most of the survival time data structure, survival times are measured wrongly and unreliable results are obtained for the discrete survival time data. Continuous time survival models used for the time data have represented the structure of data in the studies regarding health sciences. The usage of the discrete time survival models in social sciences is more common since the structure of the studied data is more appropriate for the discrete time models. In this study, discrete time survival models are examined theoretically and were applied to “Research on Domestic Violence against Women in Turkey, 2008” data received from Turkish Statistical Institute. In order to examine the factor effecting the duration of marriage, discrete time survival models have been used and achieved results have been interpreted.
