  • Predictive Validity toward Job Performance of General and Specific Mental
Abilities. A Validity Study across Different Occupational Groups

    • Authors: Jaroslaw Grobelny
      First page: 1
Abstract: There are two main views on the role of cognitive abilities in job performance prediction. The first approach is based on meta-analysis and incremental validity analysis research and the main assumption is that general mental ability (GMA) is the best job performance predictor regardless of the occupation. The second approach, referred to as specific validity theory, assumes that job-unique weighting of different specific mental abilities (SMA) is a better predictor of job performance than GMA and occupational context cannot be ignored when job performance is predicted. The validity study of both GMA and SMA as predictors of job performance across different occupational groups (N = 4033, k = 15) was conducted. The results were analyzed by calculating observed validity coefficients and with the use of the incremental validity and the relative importance analysis. The results supports the specific validity theory – SMA proved to be a valid job performance predictor and occupational context moderated GMA validity.

  • Is Global Management of Anti-Global Warming Policies at All Feasible'

    • Authors: Jan-Erik Lane
      Pages: 13 - 25
Abstract: Climate and earth scientists now predicting abrupt climate change never ask the social sciences whether large scale policy-making and international coordination, like the COP21 project, is all feasible. The message from policy analysis is that rational decision-making is a myth, as there is bound to be mistakes, confusion and opportunism in policy implementation. Is it better for each state to develop its own climate policy – the resilience option' However, when looking at energy planning by core states, one finds little of decarbonisation. Only Uruguay has good preparation for global warming. Abrupt climate change threatens numerous tipping points towards Hawking irreversibility. But the social sciences are skeptical about large scale policy implementation based upon comprehensively rational decision-making.

  • Pricing Decisions in International Industrial Markets – The Link between
Standardization at Market Entry, Pricing Capability, and Price Reactions

    • Authors: Susanne Kreiter, Roland Helm
      Pages: 26 - 43
Abstract: International pricing decisions are one of the most paramount decisions managers face. By linking international marketing and competitive dynamics this paper reveals a relationship between product and price standardization at international market entry and defensive price reactions after market entry based on the concept of path dependencies. The empirical evaluation of a structural model shows that standardization positively influences slack resources after adaptation decision and in addition price formation capabilities. In line with the awareness-motivation-capability framework our results show a negative impact of price adaptive capabilities on price reaction.

  • Task Pricing Optimization Model of Crowdsourcing Platform

    • Authors: Li Lin, Xiangyue Chen, Yiying Lou, Weijian Zhang, Ru Zhang
      First page: 44
Abstract: In this paper, we established a task pricing optimization model by the Logistic and anti-resolve thought to work out the problem of unequal spatial distribution and overall low of the task completion rate in the crowdsourcing platforms. Combining with the actual application information, we use scatter diagram, contour map, etc. to make a qualitative study and find that the reason why some of the tasks are not accepted is because the enterprise failed to take the total task quotas around the task into consideration while pricing the task. Then, combined with the influencing factors of traditional pricing model and results of qualitative analyses, the optimization model of crowdsourcing platform is built. Next, we select an ending project in an app of “make money” in China as the example to evaluate the effectiveness of our model. We applied the method of computer simulation to solve the model, and we find that, under the new pricing plan, the task completion rate has been significantly improved, which proves the conclusion of our qualitative analysis and the validity of the optimal model.

  • How Can a Corporate (Compliance) Culture Be Described and Effectively

    • Authors: Lucie Andreisová
      Pages: 52 - 57
Abstract: In July 2016, the FRC published a report on corporate culture and the role of boards (see below). This report serves as an important complement to respective provisionsof UK Corporate Governance Code – a code which is perceived as a best practice manual for building and maintaining a good level of corporate governance and is therefore adapted by many European lawmakers and regulators. This regulation puts an enhanced emphasis on ‘corporate (compliance) culture’ as it, among others, states that: ‘Boards should devote sufficient resource to evaluating culture and consider how they report on it.’ What shall, however, be understood by this term' How can such a term be defined, measured and reported on' The aim of the presented discussion paper is to help answering those theoretical questions, as well as to propose a reliable ‘culture measurement tool’ which could be effectively used in nowadays business practice.

  • The Assimilation of Social Media in Marketing Management: A Case Review of
           Taliah’s Strategy

    • Authors: Nelson Obinna Omenugha
      Pages: 58 - 67
Abstract: Aim: To review and discuss the use of social media platforms as digital marketing tool and promotional strategy by brands. The digital age inevitably brings changes and increased competition in ways businesses target, reach and recruit customers. This phenomena raises the question of which medium or media do businesses adopt in the marketing effort to reach, inform and convert customers; ultimately for survival' This review is an attempt to address this question within the context of the promotional activities of a beauty brand, Taliah.Approach: A review was conducted on the social media marketing activities of Taliah. It discusses different social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube which the brand has combined to target, reach, persuade and convert their customers. In addition, the review identified four factors that reasonably affect the social media marketing as time and date; personality, call to action and post type. Consequently, this logical approach towards the subject-matter would help to provide knowledge and facilitate reaching the best-fit decision that can optimize the marketing activities of brands and businesses; considering the increasingly evolving technological era.Findings: The review considers the evolving changes in business as a result of the presence of various digital and interactive platforms and technologies. The study recognizes that the social media platforms provide opportunities for media content; including information on products and services to be processed and distributed to the targets. There is a worry that the market space is increasingly becoming competitive; particularly as consumers are empowered by the digital technologies to make informed choices among different brands and businesses. Arguably, this is one of the major factors that triggered the competition in the market and among brands.Review limitations/implications: The characteristics of the impact of the social media marketing on brands and businesses have recently been widely discussed because of their general applicability. Consequently, it is impossible to review and cover all the important aspects of the subject-matter in this review. This review focuses on the Taliah brand and how it has particularly conducted its social media and digital marketing management. It also examines four factors that reasonably affect the social media marketing; namely, time and date; personality, call to action and post type. The review examines and provides its own views based on content analysis of the social media marketing activities of Taliah brand.Practical implications: The review highlights the activities, benefits and challenges of applying social media as a marketing and promotional strategy. Social media platforms provide the channel through which brands and businesses can develop and disseminate information about their activities to their targets in an easy, less expensive and convenient manner. On the other hand, if brands and business understand the factors affecting the social media marketing; namely, time and date; personality, call to action and post type – they would be better prepared to checkmate these factors; including been able to aptly adapt the strengths of the social media in their marketing activities. This complement would strike the balance and potentially present a practical means through which brands could coordinate their marketing efforts in using various social media platforms. It is also crucial to gain insight into other factors that potentially impacting the activities of social media marketing strategy.Value: The review considers that the increasing changes in the market is itself an opportunity for the brands to rethink strategy on how various digital technologies and networking platforms can be optimized in marketing their activities and information. It is crucial and beneficial to emerging businesses and academics to understand how Taliah brand combined and utilized diverse social media platforms to target, reach out and recruit target customers; ultimately boosting its market shares.

  • Customer Satisfaction: Does Player Perception of Clay Court Quality Affect
Court Maintenance Requirements' Evidence from Daily Maintenance and
           Player Feedback

    • Authors: David Spohn, Tim Plossl
      Pages: 68 - 79
Abstract: This paper investigates participants’ perception of the quality of clay tennis courts (i.e. satisfaction) and its effect on costly court maintenance requirements. Using unique participant data collected at a tennis facility located in Brandon, Florida from November 1, 2017 to November 30, 2017, the use of structural equation modeling techniques show that participants’ perceptions are influenced by on-court amenities. Conditional regression analysis is used to confirm the findings and reflects that participant perception of the quality of clay courts is influenced by availability of shade (for breaks) and clarity of lines. After adjusting for participant skill level, the analysis finds that more skilled players are less likely to be influenced on the quality of clay courts by on-court amenities. The analyses confirm that by focusing on customer satisfaction, maintenance cost reduction can be realized.

  • Loyalty Points on the Blockchain

    • Authors: Dhwani Agrawal, Natalia Jureczek, Gajane Gopalakrishnan, Margaret Natalie Guzman, Michael McDonald, Henry Kim
      Pages: 80 - 92
Abstract: Although some organizations are contemplating the potential impact of blockchain technology in today’s economy, blockchain, itself, is quickly emerging to be a disruptive force. This is especially true in the circumstance of loyalty programs. Blockchain is a public, digital, and distributed database solution providing decentralized management of transactional data. This technology is transforming society in ways that were previously unimaginable. Whether it be the way individuals use their phones, cars, or the healthcare system, blockchain is applicable for a variety of economic sectors and transactions. Although many may argue that blockchain is in its early development stage, it still possesses the power to revolutionize industries and consumer habits at a global scale. Through implementation of blockchain for loyalty networks, companies eliminate the limitations and inefficiencies while elevating the customer experience with secure and immediate redemption options from a variety of vendors. Despite evolving rapidly, its implementations provide better security, privacy, performance, usability, data integrity, and scalability, to name a few. Hence, blockchain is likely to entice any individual for instantaneous incentives for every purchase. This paper aims to analyze the current, traditional loyalty programs and the challenges associated with them. It highlights how blockchain can resolve these challenges and provide a better experience. This report further explores the various types of loyalty programs that currently exist in the blockchain ecosystem and provides potential future implementations. Finally, the paper analyzes the implementation of coupons in comparison with loyalty points programs, highlighting the vast spread of blockchain implementation.
