  • Snooping Handicraft-Ecotourism in Lombok

    • Authors: Hengky S. H.
      First page: 1
Abstract: Handicraft ecotourism has not become a leading sector in Lombok. Recently, the President of Indonesia has targeted to improve the performance of this sector to be ten times over the next four years. Factually, obstacles encountered with the development of handicrafts in Lombok include raw materials, facilities, and weakness in material, design, creativity, and promotion. This study addressed a theme of a sustainability, economy and development of a region. Determining the performance gap between the existing and expected, would inform them about the priority over their program. This study found four (4) points that get to improve: Firstly, the Ministry of Tourism will prioritize training for the artisans in making the new design of the new craft actively. Secondly, develop innovative and developing creative new designs and themes from crafts, adapting lessons to the needs of travelers and meeting their criteria. Thirdly, the artisans expand their distribution area to improve its business by coordinating, strengthening the standardization of craft quality. Finally, they get to substitute the material without changing the function and culture of local handicrafts.

  • Diversity Management in Organisations Located within the Visegrad Group V4
Countries (The Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary) – State of
           Implementation and Benefits

    • Authors: Elwira Gross-Gołacka
      First page: 16
Abstract: The goal of this article is to determine the state of implementation of the concept of diversity management in organisations within countries belonging to the Visegrad Group V4 and gather opinions regarding if and (if so) what benefits result from implementing this concept. For the purposes of the research, the literature on the topic was reviewed and a diagnostic survey was conducted, which was based on a survey questionnaire. Empiric research was conducted in the years 2015-2016 on a test group of 401 representatives from organisations in the Visegrad Group (Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary). These were qualitative-quantitative studies. According to the research, the level of implementing diversity management in the organisations examined is low, despite the fact that the representatives saw its benefits and declared their intent to seek more knowledge on this topic. Unequal treatment and discrimination, according to the respondents, occurs most frequently due to age, and at a further stage, due to gender and ethnic origin. The research has shown that according to the opinion of the respondents from the organisations, diversity management carries a multitude of benefits.

  • ERP Adoption and Organizational Efficiency- Balance Score Card Approach
           among Manufacturing SMEs in Kenya

    • Authors: Stephen Muchina
      First page: 31
Abstract: ERP are comprehensive, fully integrated software packages that provide automated support for most of the standard business processes within organizations. The uptake of ERP in the industry has been impressive but not for SMEs. The SME market in the eyes of ERP developers has been un-lucrative because it is fairly fragmented and rudimental. This means that solutions adopted for one enterprise are not easily replicated on others in the same category. The paper determined the level and extent of ERP adoption in SMEs based in manufacturing sector and the accruing benefits towards organization efficiency as measured using a balance score card (BSC) approach. This study purposively sampled firms under Kenya Industrial Estate cells. In each cell, four firms were selected the inclusion criteria being a manufacturing enterprise and adoption of ERP. Using the BSC five factor model, the effect of ERP adoption was measured. Cross sectional data was collected on a five point Likert scale. This data set gave rise to categorical data. The relationship between ERP adoption and organizational performance was model using a Chi-Square test of independence. The study finds that there at the beginning phase except for customer satisfaction, financial strength, employee perspectives, internal business processes and innovation are independent of ERP adoption. At the consolidation and maturity phases the financial strength, employee perspectives, internal business processes and innovation become dependent on ERP adoption meaning the strength of these factors is determined by the ERP

  • Insurance Purchase: Price, Product, Promotion and Consumers Attitude

    • Authors: OWOLABI Adenike Olanrewaju, AGBOOLA Omoniyi Oladipupo
      First page: 44
Abstract: This paper describes the impact of consumer’s attitude on the purchase of insurance product in Nigeria. The attitudes, most often negative, are mirrored through low patronage of insurance services. Data were collected through the use of self-structured closed questionnaire. The research adopted a descriptive survey design. One hundred and fifty (150) questionnaires were administered, however only one hundred and thirty two (132) were properly filled and good enough for data analysis. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Regression Analysis were used to test the hypotheses generated for the study at 0.05 alpha levels. The result of the study showed that there is a significant relationship between customer’s attitude and insurance product. Findings also revealed that there is a significant relationship between product awareness and price. Findings from the survey further revealed that promotion of insurance products have significant influence on consumers buying behavior. Insurance companies are advised to guarantee that their services are dependable and reliable, in that the services should not require an excessive amount of bureaucratic procedure of their customers in taking an insurance policy or getting their claim. Other feasible measures to boost patronage of insurance products were recommended for insurance firms and policy-makers.

    • Authors: Yini Liu, Paul D. Berger
      First page: 59
Abstract: In this paper, we study Sephora’s mobile app and its use, opinions about its efficacy, and its relationship to customer loyalty. We consider three traditional measures of customer loyalty—satisfaction with the app, likelihood to use the app for purchases in the future, and likelihood to recommend the app to others. Various relationships were found between different perceived benefits of the app and the measures of customer loyalty.

  • Latent Functions of Brands and Brandings

    • Authors: Hamid Tahmasebifard, Mohammad Mahdi Pouyan, Mahdie Mirzaagha
      First page: 89
Abstract: Brands and their positive consequences as an economic constructs, have been well studied. But, in addition to economic, brands are also regarded as a social construct, which has remained fairly unrecognized due to lack of academic investigations. So, the purpose of this paper is to focus on and address negative functions and effects of brands and brandings. With utilizing critical point of view and Merton’s functional analysis, this research presents a literature-based conceptual analysis of the negative functions of brands and brandings. The paper identifies that brands have their own demerits (latent functions) in addition to their merits (manifest functions). With referencing to existing literature, this paper identifies some negative effects of brands for societies such as class differences, self-alienation, cultural imperialism, emotional relationships.

  • Falsification of Theorizing in Operations Management Research

    • Authors: Abdul Salam Khan, Iqbal Muhammad Khan, Muhammad Sadiq, Imran Ahmed Khan
      First page: 102
Abstract: The practices of operations management research have been inclined towards practicality and pragmatism. Induction is core background of research in operations management. However, there are certain biases and critiques on the generalizability of data using the approach of Induction, of which falsification is more prominent. This study takes upon three major theories used in Operations Management (OM) research such as Resource Based View (RBV), Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) and Resource Dependence Theory (RDT) and discusses the falsification critiques such as tautology on the theories and theorization of Operations Management (OM) and how the body of research in operations management responds to the criticism. Our study suggests that there needs to be a domain limitation of the theorizing process wherein the theory is posit to hold and thus exposing the theory at hand to the critique of falsification. The theory needs not to capture every facet of the phenomena under examination. This study also highlight the importance of developing field specific theories and the improvement brought into the process of theorization and towards the end we describe courses of action for improving the balance between theory and practice approach in the field.

Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs in Jaffna District

    • Authors: Sathana Vaikunthavasan
      First page: 122
Abstract: After the local war, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have been facing huge problems in Jaffna District and they have poor quality of product and services. The purpose of this paper is to explore the meaningful value addition strategies to access standards for products of micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) for establishing a competitive advantage. Coconut is vital sector of SMEs and also one of the major resources in Jaffna district. This sector has the greatest prospects for growth and development. Value addition for coconut based productions leads to more quality and creates adequate demand for the products. Thus researcher scoped coconut sector among the MSMEs. The research is qualitative in nature with exploratory narrative research. Under purposive sampling technique, the owners or managers of enterprises and stake holders of MSMEs were interviewed by using unstructured questions to explore the value addition. The author proposed two momentous models; they are model of values addition strategies to access standards as a tool for competitive advantage and collaborative institutional model to access standards with the participation of government and non-government organizations. The findings are; first model induces MSMEs to access standards and second model explains the means to achieve the standard. Especially this research expresses the essential of sincere collaborative work of institutions towards the quality productions and development of MSMEs. Further this research points out that the notion of value addition practices has been evolved and is increasingly understood consideration for economic development of Sri Lanka.

  • Product Placement Strategy in the Business Market Competition: Studies of
           Fast Moving Consumer Goods

    • Authors: R. Agus Trihatmoko, Roch Mulyani, Niki Lukviarman
      First page: 150
Abstract: The phenomenon of distribution intensity has received little attention in academic research, particularly in its relation to the distribution of Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG). This paper aimed at exploring distribution management practices that is appropriate for describing concept and theory related to product placement in the market. The paper uses either qualitative research method as phenomenology by using the philosophy of constructivism interpretation or grounded theory by philosophy of pragmatism interpretation. The data obtained to study the development in FMCG distribution management in term of channel group of traditional markets in Indonesia. The result identifies and describes that product placement concept pervades relations among: (1) the firm’s strategic policy; (2) numbers, types, and roles of salesperson; (3) the distribution level of product; and (4) the customers’ coverage expansion. Theoretically this paper proposes four typical of product placement strategies namely; trial, introduction, attacker, and leader. It might be argued that the findings of this study have constructively arranged the concept and theory of product placement as a form of its novelty. The result of the study contributes into the concept of “place” in marketing mix, along with the use of agency theory as an alternative perspective in marketing management research.
