  • Modeling for the operation of the firewood gasification in
           downdraft installations

    • Abstract: Resumen La operación óptima de las instalaciones energéticas debe influir considerablemente en su eficiencia, por lo que el presente trabajo consistió en la definición de la estructura de modelos requeridos para la operación de gasificadores downdraft sobre la base de su análisis sistémico, su identificación y determinación del tipo de modelo de mejor ajuste. Para la identificación de los modelos fue construida una instalación experimental, utilizando, entre otras biomasas, la leña. A partir de un plan experimental 3N,con tres réplicas, se identificaron los modelos necesarios con ayuda de técnicas de redes neuronales artificiales y de regresión no lineal. Los mejores resultados se obtuvieron utilizando modelos de redes neuronales, siendo por tanto el más recomendable en la etapa preliminar del proceso de construcción adaptiva del modelo de operación del proceso estudiado. Optimal operation of energetic installations must considerably influence on its efficiency. By this, the objective of the present paper consists in the definition of the required models structure for the operation of downdraft gasifiers and its identification based on systemic analysis, it identification and the determination of the better adjustment type of model. For the models identification an experimental installation was constructed using, between other biomasses, firewood. Starting from an 3N experimental plan, with three replicas, needed models were identified helped by artificial neural networks and regression techniques. The best results were obtained using neural network, being therefore the most advisable in the preliminary stage of the process of the adaptive construction of operation models of the studied process.
       
  • Design and manufacturing of a device to measure adherence by scratch

    • Abstract: Resumen En el presente trabajo se realizó el diseño y fabricación de un equipo para medir adherencia por rayado en recubrimientos depositados sobre sustratos. Para la fabricación del equipo se diseñaron y construyeron las diferentes partes de este utilizando como método, la modelación auxiliada con el software Inventor profesional 2016 y los procesos tecnológicos de maquinado y corte por láser. Para comprobar la repetitividad de los ensayos a una velocidad lineal de 10 mm/min en correspondencia con la norma ASTM C-1624-5 se utilizó un identificador de esfera. Los rayados realizados mostraron que el equipo posee un funcionamiento satisfactorio. In this paper was realized the design and manufactured of an equipment to measured adherence by scratch for deposited coating on substrate. For the manufacture of the equipment was designed and built the different parts using as method the assisted modelation in the software professional Inventor and technology process of machined and curt by laser. To determine the repetitive of the test to one line velocity of 10 mm/min in accordance with the norm ASTM C-1642-5 was utilized a sphere indicator. The scratches executed showed that the equipment has a satisfactory performance.
       
  • Condition monitoring in engine generator sets based on vibration analysis
           by spectral bands

    • Abstract: Resumen Se presentan los resultados del estudio cuyo objetivo fueconseguir una primera aproximación a la definición de parámetros para el monitorado de la condición de generadores del tipo HSR7719-8P de grupos electrógenos HYUNDAI HIMSEN instalados en unacentral eléctrica, basada en el análisis de vibraciones por bandas espectrales.Se efectuaron mediciones en los 24grupos electrógenos instalados,registrándose las vibraciones en banda estrecha en términos de velocidadpico parapuntos seleccionados en correspondencia conlanorma ISO 8528-9. En los registros se discriminaron aquellas componentes procedentes del motor de combustión interna y se definieron cuatro bandas espectrales de alarma con carácter discreto, como punto de partida para monitorar la condición de los generadores. Se estimaron los umbrales preliminares de alarma a través del tratamiento estadístico de las amplitudes dominantes dentro de cada banda espectral. Se concluyó que los generadores en los cuales se registraron las vibraciones, exhiben una condición normal. Based on the vibration analysis by spectral alarm bands, it is shown a first approximation of condition monitoring for generators HSR7719-8P of HYUNDAI HIMSEN engine generator sets atreal power plant. Measurements were made on 24 engine generator sets, recording narrow band peak vibrations at selected points according toISO 8528-9. Registered frequency components from the engine were not taken into account and four discrete spectral alarm bands were defined, as a starting point to condition monitoring of such generators. Preliminary alarm thresholds were estimated using statistical treatment of the dominant amplitudes within each spectral band. It was concluded that those generators in which the vibrations were recorded exhibit a normal condition.
       
  • Evaluation of the sedimentation process of discrete particles in turbulent
           flow

    • Abstract: Resumen Las minihidroeléctricas sin desarenador, frecuentemente presentan tupición de las toberas. Para evitar esto se crea una estructura que se conecta a la tubería de alta presión. El presente trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de evaluar el proceso de sedimentación de partículas discretas en dicha estructura. Fueron empleados el método de los estratos para la selección de la muestra, el Runge Kutta 2 para la simulación del movimiento de las partículas (piedras) y el programa SolidWork para simular el comportamiento de las líneas de corriente del flujo de agua. Se demuestra que el dispositivo evita la tupición de las toberas por las piedras, llegando a la conclusión de que el proceso de sedimentación en flujo turbulento, ocurre en partículas de diámetro ≥ 2 mm. El adecuado comportamiento del sistema crea interesantes oportunidades para la generalización de esta experiencia en instalaciones hidroeléctricas que no cuenten con desarenador. Frequently, the hydroelectric power miniplants without sand trap have their nozzles blocked. In order to avoid this, a structure that connects itself with the high pressure pipe is created. This project has the objective of assessing the sedimentation process of the discrete particles in this structure. The author of this project used the strata method for the selection of the sample, the Runge Kutta 2 for the simulation of the particles (stones) movement and the SolidWork program to simulate the behavior of the water flow lines. It is demonstrated that this mechanism avoids the obstruction of nozzles because of stones, coming to the conclusion that the sedimentation process in turbulent flow occurs in particles with a diameter of > 2mm. The appropriate behavior of the system creates interesting opportunities for the generalization of this experience in hydroelectric power plants which do not have sand trap.
       
  • The requirements specification of mechatronic products based-on the
           Integrated product, process and manufacturing development model

    • Abstract: This work has as main objective to expose the unification of the analysis of the functional requirements of mechatronic products, in an integrated reference model of Product, Process and Manufacturing Systems. The scope of the research is defined in the conceptual design stage of mechatronic products, aimed at improving the design process. The Kano, QFD, DSM and CAD methods were used. The main result was the integration of the analysis of the functional requirements in the conceptual design of mechatronic products, using computational tools (CAD/CAM/CAE). The effectiveness of the use of the methodological tools of product design combined with computational tools in the area of mechatronics was demonstrated.Resumen Este trabajo tuvo como objetivo principal exponer la unificación del análisis de los requerimientos funcionales de productos mecatrónicos, en un modelo de referencia integrado de Producto, Proceso y Sistemas de Manufactura. El alcance de la investigación estuvo definido en la etapa del diseño conceptual de productos mecatrónicos, orientado a la mejora del proceso de diseño. Se utilizaron los métodos Kano, QFD, DSM y CAD/CAM/CAE. Se obtuvo como resultado principal, la integración del análisis de los requerimientos funcionales en el diseño conceptual de productos mecatrónicos, utilizando las herramientas computacionales CAD/CAM/CAE. Se demostró la efectividad de la utilización de las herramientas metodológicas del diseño de productos combinadas con las computacionales, en el área de la mecatrónica.
       
  • A parametric analysis of thermal performance of plane solar air heatersin
           forced regime

    • Abstract: Resumen En esta investigación se realizó el análisis del desempeño energético de los colectores solares planos de aire con cubierta simple operando con circulación forzada. Para el análisis se modeló y simuló el colector mediante técnicas de la Dinámica de los Fluidos Computacional, utilizando el código Fluent 6.3. Se analizó el comportamiento del colector ante la variación de los parámetros de diseño (longitud, altura del canal de aire) y de las condiciones de operación (horario del día/ radiación solar incidente y velocidad del aire). Como resultado se obtuvo la dependencia del rendimiento térmico horario y diario del colector, de la temperatura de salida en función de la longitud del colector, la altura del canal, la radiación incidente y la velocidad del aire. Los resultados obtenidos ofrecen a los diseñadores de calentadores solares planos de aire de las herramientas para mejorar el diseño en función del resultado deseado, sea mayor temperatura de aire entregado, mayor rendimiento o alguna combinación de estos parámetros. In this work the analysis of the energetic performance of flat solar air heaters with simple cover operating in forced circulation regime was developed. For the analysis, the collector was modelled and simulated with Computational Dynamic Fluid technique, using the Fluent 6.3code.The collector performance versus the change of design parameters (length, air canal height) and the change of operating conditions (the incident solar radiation and air velocity)was analyzed. The graphic dependence and correlations of hourly and daily collector thermal efficiency, of exit air temperature as function of the collector length, of the air canal height, of the air velocity and of solar incident radiation were carried out. The found correlations are useful for the designers of solar air heaters as tools to improve the design in function of desired aim, either higher exit air temperature, higher efficiency or any combination of these parameters
       
  • Determination of cutting speed and feed rate in finished machinated of
           Babbitt metal

    • Abstract: Resumen El objetivo de esta investigación fue la determinación la velocidad de corte y velocidad de avance para lograr durante el maquinado de acabado en material BABBITT (AVE-F1) de las chumaceras de apoyo de los ejes de las turbinas y las de los ventiladores de tiro forzado una rugosidad superficial de Ra menor o igual de 0,8 μm, durante un proceso de mandrilado. Se realizaron 12 experimentos en seco, con cuatro niveles de velocidad de corte y tres de velocidad de avance, con una herramienta de HSS. La medición de rugosidad se realizó con un rugosímetro digital Mitutoyo. Como resultado final se observó la gran influencia de las variables de corte analizadas en la rugosidad superficial, obteniéndose valores de Ra iguales a 0,71 µm, con velocidad de avance y velocidad de corte de (0,025 mm/rev; y 47 m/min) respectivamente. The aim of this research was to the determination of the of cutting speed and feed rate to achieve during the finished machined in Babbitt material (AVE-F1) of the bearings in support of the shafts of the turbines and those of forced draft fans a surface roughness of Ra less than or equal to 0,8 μm, subjected to a boring process.During a process of bored. 12 dry experiments were carried out, with four levels of cutting speed and three feed rate, with an HSS tool. The surface roughness was measured in Ra units [µm], using a MITUTOYO roughness meter. As a final result, the great influence of the cut variables analyzed in the surface roughness was observed, obtaining values of Ra equal to 0,71μm, with feed rate and cutting speed of (0.025 mm / rev, and 47 m / min) respectively.
       
  • Fatigue crack growth of mig welded carbon steel

    • Abstract: Resumen En este trabajo se presentan los resultados de una investigación sobre la propagación de grietas por fatiga en una lámina de acero estructural sometida a un proceso de soldadura MIG. El estudio se realizó en el acero estructural AISI 1018 utilizado en la fabricación de estructuras de perfil tubular rectangular (PTR) de 2 x 1 pulgadas, de 2 mm de espesor con y sin cordón de soldadura. Se realizaron pruebas de propagación de grietas por fatiga, en el material base y en el soldado. Los resultados muestran una detención de grieta en la zona afectada por el calor, requiriendo mayor amplitud del factor de intensidad de esfuerzos (KI) para que la grieta se propague de una manera estable. Los resultados indican que la combinación de una adecuada microestructura y los esfuerzos residuales en la zona afectada por el calor, son los factores que más influyen en la detención del avance de la grieta en el material soldado. In this paper are presented the results of a research work on the propagation of fatigue cracks in structural steel plate, subjected to a MIG welding process. The study was conducted on structural steel (ASTM std.) used in the manufacture of structures of rectangular tubular profile (PTR) for 2 x 1inch 2-mm thick, MIG welded and not welded. Samples were tested for fatigue crack propagation at the base material and welded metal. The results show a crack arrest in the heat affected zone (HAZ) , requiring greater amplitude of the stress intensity factor (KI) for the propagation of the crack in a stable manner. Results indicate that the combination of adequate microstructure and residual stresses in the HAZ are the main factors which can stop the advance of the crack in welded material.
