  • Simulation of biomass pneumatic drying with ascending swirling
           movement

    • Abstract: Considerando la forma de capa que adquieren las partículas durante el proceso estudiado fue necesario definir la relación existente entre el área de transferencia de calor y masa y el flujo de material para poder simular con mayor precisión este tipo de secado. Los resultados de la simulación se compararon, a través de un análisis estadístico basado en el programa Statgraphics-Centurion V15, con los resultados obtenidos en otros estudios de secadores neumáticos de bagazo y fueron semejantes por lo que se concluyó que es correcta la definición hecha sobre la relación área/flujo de material definida en este trabajo y que es posible reducir la altura de los secadores neumáticos de biomasa usando este método. Esta reducción que se puede apreciar a través del índice de Reducción de Altura (IRA) de la columna de secado, definido en el trabajo, permitirá secadores de biomasa más compactos.Considering the layer form acquired by the particles during the studying process it was necessary to define the relation cheap between the heat and mass transfer area and particles flow to simulate with more precision this kind of drying. The simulations results were compared, by a statistical analysis based in Statgraphics-Centurion V15 program, with the results obtained in others pneumatic bagasse dryers studies and were similar and for that reason it was categorical that is correct the definition made about the relation cheap area/material flow defined in this work and it’s possible to reduce pneumatic dryer height by using this method. This reduction that can be seen by the Height Reduction Sing (HRS) of the drying column, defined in the work, will permit more compact dryers.
       
  • Regularized neural networks applied to the estimation of the mechanical
           properties of steel profiles

    • Abstract: El uso de las redes neuronales artificiales de base radial para la estimación de las propiedades mecánicas de las hornadas a partir de su composición química y superficie transversal del perfil terminado,facilita el proceso de generación de opciones de destino de hornadas de perfiles ligeros de acero destinados a la construcción. En el trabajo realizadoesta estimación se hizopor redes de base radial entrenadas con el método iterativo de regularización de Landweber, a partir de los datos acumulados de ensayos mecánicos en los talleresadoptados como Estudio de Caso, los que producen fundamentalmente barras corrugadas de acero para su uso en la construcción. La utilización de redes regularizadas permite disminuir los errores de generalización en la estimación de las propiedades mecánicas, mejorando así la calidad de las opciones de destino de las hornadas producidas.The use of the radial baseartificial neural networks for the estimation of the mechanical properties of the heats starting from its chemical composition and traverse surface of the finished profile facilitates the options generation process forthe heats destination while producingsteel slight profiles dedicated to the constructions. In the present work this estimation is made by radial base artificial neural networks, trained by the Landweber regularization iterative method, starting from the available mechanical properties data obtained from the quality control of the workshops adopted as Study Case. The use of regularized networks allows diminishing the generalized errors in the mechanical properties estimation, improving this way the quality of the options of destination of the heats produced.
       
  • Design of the Dupont availability Method to support decision making in
           maintenance

    • Abstract: El objetivo de este trabajo fue diseñar el Método de Disponibilidad Dupont para compararlo con el indicador de la Efectividad Total del Equipamiento como apoyo a la toma de decisiones en el mantenimiento. En el mismo se realizó una comparación donde se utilizaron los datos históricos del año 2015 de una planta de generación de agua purificada. Se aplicaron los modelos matemáticos que caracterizan a ambos y se demostró que el Método de Disponibilidad Dupont puede determinar cuál de los sistemas, subsistemas o componentes estuvo disminuyendo la disponibilidad, la efectividad o la calidad del activo en el período evaluado.The objective of the present study was to do a design of Dupont Availability Method and compare it with the Total Equipment Effectiveness indicator to support decision making in maintenance. In the same one was made a comparison where the historical data of the year 2015 of a plant of generation of purified water. The mathematical models that characterize both were applied and it was demonstrated that the Dupont Availability Method can determine which of the systems, subsystems or components was the responsible of decreasing the availability, effectiveness or quality of the asset in the period evaluated.
       
  • Intrapedicular screw and stud. Finite Element Analysis

    • Abstract: Se analizó mediante el método de elementos finitos el tornillo intrapedicular fusión 6,3 mm y al prisionero, diseñado y fabricado por la empresa CALVENT-Medical, como parte de un conjunto denominado tornillo - retén - tulipa - prisionero con fines de fijación del raquis. Se determinó mediante análisis estático lineal las cargas con el criterio de Von Mises que producen el inicio de la deformación plástica permanente en la zona del cuello del prisionero con cargas torsionales en la cabeza. Luego mediante un análisis elasto plástico no lineal, se estimó la carga necesaria para producir la ruptura. De manera equivalente se estimaron en el Tornillo Intrapedicular con análisis estático lineal las cargas axiales, de flexión y torsión que producen la fluencia, donde además se incorpora un análisis dinámico para determinar la vida a fatiga del mismo, estimándose las cargas alternantes críticas que inician la vida infinita.It was analyzed by finite element method Screw Intrapedicular Fusion 6.3 mm and the Prisoner, designed and manufactured by CALVENT-Medicalas part of a package called screw - catch - tulip - prisoner for attachment of the spine. Loads the criterion of Von Mises, produce the onset of permanent plastic deformation in the area of the Prisoner neck torsional loads on the head, then with a nonlinear elasto plastic analysis was determined by linear static analysis, estimated the load required to cause rupture. Equivalently were estimated Screw Intrapedicular linear static analysis axial loads, bending and torsion producing creep, where also a dynamic analysis is incorporated to determine the fatigue life thereof, estimating the alternating critical loads that initiate endless life.
       
  • Parametric design process of an immersed vibrator applied in a
           slip-form machine

    • Abstract: The goal of this paper is to expose the parametric design process of an immersed vibrator, belonging to a horizontal slip-form machine used to prefabricate ferrocement panels. A mathematical model was constructed and validated, which interrelates variables of geometric configuration, mass distribution, excitercharacteristics, stresses and accelerations in remarkable points, Eigenfrequencies, technological operations, energy, costs and other aspects. Based in this model, it was solved the design problem by a method employing dichromatic graphs. For the optimized solution it was iteratively executed a simulation algorithm. To facilitate programming, the simulation algorithm was organized in a particularly advantageous manner for complex systems. As a final result, an optimized design solution was obtained and subjected to physical tests, which demonstrated overcomes previous versions of the vibrating device, so the applied method is appropriated for parametric design of similar devices, when general configuration, functioning principles, forms, and other fundamental aspects, are previously defined.El objetivo de este artículo es explicar el procedimiento de diseño paramétrico del vibrador de inmersión deun molde deslizante horizontal empleado para prefabricar paneles de ferrocemento. Para ello se construyó y validó un modelo matemático integral que interrelaciona variables de la geometría, la distribución de masas, las características del vibro-excitador, los esfuerzos y aceleraciones en puntos importantes, las autofrecuencias de oscilación, la tecnología, los costos y otros aspectos. Sobre este modelo se resolvió un problema de diseño, utilizando un método que emplea grafos bipartitos. Para facilitar la programación el algoritmo fue organizado en una forma particularmente ventajosa para sistemas complejos. Como resultado principal se obtuvo un prototipo con diseño óptimo, el cual fue construido y sometido a pruebas físicas. Se demostró que el nuevo diseño tiene mejores prestaciones que los anteriores, por lo que el método aplicado se considera apropiado cuando la configuración general está previamente definida.
       
  • Mechanical characterization ofnanoporous hydroxyapatite disks obtained
           by sintering

    • Abstract: El objetivo de este trabajo es la caracterización mecánica de discos fabricados a partir de polvos de hidroxiapatita (HA) sintética cubana y de la StremChemicals - USA, con tamaños de partículas diferentes y de forma semiesféricas con superficies porosas, sin aditivos formadores de poros, por compactación uniaxial y sinterización en horno eléctrico a diferentes regímenes de sinterización, Se obtuvieron porosidades aparente entre 3 y 40 % con tamaños de poros entre 18 y 100nm, dimensiones menores a 20 mm de diámetro y 2 mm de espesor. Se evaluó la dureza mediante el ensayo de microdureza Vickers y la tenacidad a la fractura a travésdel ensayo de compresión diametral. Muestras con polvos de mayor tamaño de partículas presentaron comportamiento no lineal con la porosidad en los valores de dureza y de tenacidad a la fractura. Las muestras con menor tamaño medio de polvos presentaron resultados superiores.The objective of this work is the mechanical characterization of disks made from Cuban synthetic hydroxyapatite (HA) and Strem Chemicals - USA powders. With different particle sizes and semi-spherical shape with porous surfaces. Without pore-forming additives, by uniaxial compaction and sintering in electric furnace at different sintering regimes. Obtaining ranges of apparent porosities between 3 and 40%, with pore sizes between 18 and 100 nm and their dimensions smaller than 20 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick. The hardness, fracture toughness and diametrical compression of the discs were evaluated. To determine the hardness, the Vickers microhardness test and fracture toughness were used for the radial cracking and palmqvist analysis method produced by Vickers prints. Samples with larger particle size powders presented behavior in the values ​​of hardness and toughness to nonlinear fracture with porosity. In general, the samples with lower mean powder size presented higher results.
       
  • Management audit applied to the maintenance department in hospital
           facilities

    • Abstract: This work is related with the operations control in the maintenance department of hospital center, through management audits and their implementation. The study was carried out in five hospitals, with the aim of evaluate the performance of the maintenance function; as well as to demonstrate that the most critical component in the results of a management audit is the human resource. For development of the work, a survey was applied at managers and workers of the center, as a technique for data collection. In addition, monitoring tools such as Ishikawa diagram and Brainstorming were used. The study showed, among others, that technological problems, such as the availability of assets, are usually associated with a shortage of resources; however, its root cause is a mismanagement by the staff in charge of this activity in the maintenance departments. The application of the proposed method evidenced that the most critical component in the results of a management audit is the human resource.El presente trabajo está dirigido al control de operaciones en el departamento de mantenimiento de entidades hospitalarias, a través de auditorías de gestión y su puesta en práctica. El estudio se realizó en 5 instituciones hospitalarias, con el objetivo de evaluar el desempeño de la función mantenimiento; así como demostrar que el componente más crítico en los resultados de una auditoría de gestión es el recurso humano. Para el desarrollo del trabajo se aplicaron encuestas a directivos y trabajadores del centro como técnica recolección de datos y se emplearon herramientas de control como el diagrama de Ishikawa y tormentas de Ideas. El estudio demostró, entre otras, que los problemas tecnológicos, como es el caso de la disponibilidad de los activos, generalmente se asocian a la escasez de recursos, sin embargo, su causa raíz es una mala gestión por parte del personal encargado de esta actividad en los departamentos de mantenimiento. La aplicación del método propuesto evidencio que el componente más crítico en los resultados de una auditoria gestión es el recurso humano.
       
  • Design and analysis of experiments applied to direct expansion solar
           assisted heat pumps

    • Abstract: La bomba de calor de expansión directa con energía solar es un sistema de conversión de energía que se utiliza para aplicaciones de calentamiento de agua, calentamiento de aire para climatizar edificios, desalinización de agua, secado solar entre otras. El presente trabajo revisa los principales diseños y análisis de experimentos con la finalidad de identificar los objetivos fundamentales de todo experimento los cuales pueden ser: determinar los factores que tienen una influencia significativa, la obtención de un modelo matemático y/o la optimización de un rendimiento. Para lograr esta tarea se describen en detalle la configuración básica y avanzada de este sistemapara así caracterizar su rendimiento térmico mediante el análisis de la energía y/o el análisis basado en la exergía. Esta revisión identifica posibles líneas de investigación en el área de diseño y análisis de experimentos que permitan desarrollar esta tecnología de calentamiento de agua para aplicaciones industriales.Direct expansion solar assisted heat pump is an energy conversion systemused for several applications among them we may cite, water heating, heating space for building, water desalination system, solar drying, amongst other. The present work review the main analysis and design of experiments with the goal of identify the fundamentals objectives of any experimental design which it may be: determining which factors affect significantly the response, obtain a mathematical model and/or optimizing a response.To reach this task, the basic and advanced configuration model of this systemare describing in details with the purpose of characterize the thermal performance of the system, the types of thermal performance analyses used are the coefficient of performance analysis and the energy-exergy efficiency analysis. This review rightly point out to identify potential area of further investigation that allow researchers develop this technology for heating water for industrial applications.
