  • Maintenance actions supporting a biotechnological production enterprise

    • Abstract: Resumen El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar las causas de los altos rechazos en las operaciones de llenado de productos parenterales de bajo volumen, proponiendo medidas para su control y disminución en una empresa de productos farmacéuticos de Cuba. Se analizaron las interacciones de los diferentes elementos como: viales, bolsas desechables, botellones de vidrio, mangueras, agujas, bombas rotatorias de pistón, balanzas de pesaje de alta precisión y se examinaron las variables del rechazo por rango de pesada así como la jerarquía de la influencia de estos elementos en el resultado final. Fue detectado que las pérdidas a causa de la operación del equipamiento, por parte de los operarios, son las mayores en comparación con otras. Del trabajo del grupo de especialistas se determinaron 4 acciones correctivas que una vez implementadas y revisadas permitieron validar las propuestas y disminuir las pérdidas. The work was demonstrated as from the activity of maintaining support to production. In it, the elements that interact during the filling of low volume parenteral products in a filling line of a biotechnology company are exposed. The interactions of the different elements involved were analyzed: vials, disposable bags, glass bottles, hoses, needles, rotary piston pumps, high precision weighing scales, etc. We examined the rejection variables by weighing range as well as the hierarchy of the influence, of these elements, on the final result. The filling line used was characterized in terms of its technological benefits and work capacity. The objective pursued was to determine the causes of the high rejections as well as to propose measures for their control and reduction that were carried out by the maintenance personnel of the entity.
       
  • Determination of the optimum louver angle of a louvered fin with
           elliptical tubes

    • Abstract: Heat exchangers are an essential component in many of the vital processes of our daily lives. The following work is directed to the study of compact heat exchangers, specifically those with elliptical tubes and louver fins. Through numerical simulation it is intended to obtain the thermo-hydraulic behavior of louver tube-fin geometries. Model inlet velocities corresponding to low Reynolds numbers (less than 1000 based on hydraulic diameter) are studied. The behavior ofthese geometries is simulated through the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics techniques. Establishing of the necessary boundary conditions to solve the equations as well as meshing of all models are described. The fin efficiency was determined according to the Schmidt method and the different models were compared regarding their thermohydraulic behavior.Resumen Los intercambiadores de calor constituyen un componente esencial en muchos de los procesos vitales de nuestra vida cotidiana. El siguiente trabajo va dirigido al estudio los intercambiadores de calor compactos, específicamente a los de tubo elíptico y aleta veneciana. El objetivo final es obtener el comportamiento termo-hidráulico de geometrías tubo-aletas venecianas, a través de simulación numérica. Se estudian velocidades de entrada al modelo correspondientes a bajos números de Reynolds (inferiores a 1000 basados en el diámetro hidráulico). El comportamiento de estas geometrías es simulado mediante el empleo de técnicas de Dinámica de Fluidos Computacional. El mallado de los modelos es descrito y se establecen las condiciones de contorno necesarias para la solución de las ecuaciones. Se determinó la eficacia de la aleta según el método de Schmidt y se realizaron comparaciones del comportamiento termo hidráulico entre los diferentes modelos estudiados.
       
  • Double ellipsoidal energetic oscillatory model for arc welding

    • Abstract: Resumen En el presente trabajo se estableció un modelo energético oscilatorio y doble elipsoidal de fuente de calor para la simulación del proceso de soldadura por transferencia metálica fría (CMT). El modelo se basó en las secuencias sinusoidales de solidificación de las ondulaciones superficiales y la frecuencia de oscilación de los parámetros eléctricos del proceso de soldadura. El modelo fue desarrollado, a partir del análisis matemático de funciones seriadas de aporte energético del arco eléctrico y dimensional del baño de soldadura y su extrapolación a la descripción de fenómenos cíclicos eléctricos y de solidificación del cordón.Como resultado se obtuvo que la frecuencia de ocurrencia de los fenómenos eléctricos y energéticos del arco no debe coincidir con la de formación del baño metálico, considerando el proceso como funciones periódicas sinusoidales. Se explicó cómo determinar el valor del calor aportado medio para una aproximación sinusoidal del comportamiento de la potencia introducida. In the present work, anoscillatory and double ellipsoidal energetic model of thermal heat source for the cold metal transfer (CMT) welding process simulation was proposed.The sinusoidal solidification sequences model of the surface ripples and the oscillation frequency of the electrical welding parameters was proposed. The model was developed from the mathematical analysis of serial functions of energy and dimensional contribution to the electric arc and the description of electric cyclic phenomena and weld joint formation.Asresult, the frequency of electrical occurrence and energetic phenomena of the arc must not coincide with the formation of the fused weld pool was obtained, considering the process as periodic sinusoidal functions. It was explained how to determine the value of the medium heat supplied for a sinusoidal approximation of the introduced power behavior.
       
  • Mathematical modeling for optimal selection of energetic installations and
           it solution scheme

    • Abstract: Resumen El objetivo del trabajo consistió en seleccionar el equipamiento requerido, entre los disponibles, para satisfacer la demanda energética de un territorio y sus zonas, esto permitió optimizar un compromiso entre los costos de inversión, operación y las emisiones contaminantes a la atmósfera. Para la solución del problema se aplicó un esquema de descomposición en sub-tareas de optimización bajo criterios múltiples en una tarea de Programación Lineal en el nivel superior y varias de Programación en Enteros en el nivel inferior, las que se solucionaron por una heurísticapropia del método de Integración de Variables. Se solucionó la tarea formulada para los datos reales del municipio de Ganda, Benguela, Angola, con la determinación de cuáles instalaciones básicas, entre las disponibles, se deben adquirir y en cuales zonas del territorio se debe montar cada instalación. Quedó demostrado que los problemas de selección óptima del equipamiento energético en regiones aisladas pueden ser solucionado mediante los métodos empleados. The objective of this work was to select the required equipment among the set of available, to satisfy the energy demand of a territory, optimizing a commitment between investment and operation costs and polluting to the atmosphere emissions. For the solution of the problem, a decomposition scheme that include a multiple criteria linear programming task, at the higher level, and integer programming optimization subtasks at the lower level is applied. For solving the last ones an algorithm of the Integration of Variables methods applied. These tasks are solved using the real data from the municipality of Ganda, Benguela, Angola, determining the basic facilities, among the available, that should be acquired and in the areas of the territory where each installation should be installed. It was demonstrated that the problem of optimal selection of energy equipment in isolated regions can be solved by the methods used.
       
  • Tacho-less Automatic Gear Fault Detection

    • Abstract: Resumen En este trabajo se desarrolló y validó un método para detectar automáticamente defectos en pares engranados cuando la velocidad de rotación es desconocida y variable, sin usar tacómetro. En este método se usa la detección sincrónica de defectos basada en los amplificadores Lock-in (ALI) y un algoritmo para estimar automáticamente la velocidad de rotación. La estimación de la velocidad de rotación está basada en la descomposición de la señal de vibración en señales monocomponentes y el análisis del acoplamiento de fase no cuadrático. Con el método propuesto fue posible detectar un par engranadodefectuoso (con un diente roto) en una caja de engranajes de un aerogenerador de 3 MW. Este método puede ser aplicado con eficacia en condiciones de variación de la velocidad de rotación (∆v) de hasta el 30 %, incluso cuando la relación señal-ruido (SNR) es baja. In this work, a method was developed and validated toautomatically detect gear fault when the rotational speed is unknown and variable, without using a tachometer. In this method are used the synchronous fault detection based on Lock-in amplifiers (LIA) and an algorithm for automatically estimating the rotation speed. The rotation speed estimation is based on the vibration signaldecomposition into monocomponent signals and the non-quadratic phase coupling analysis.With the proposed method was possible to detect a faulty gear (with broken tooth) in the gearbox of 3 MW wind turbine. This method can be effectively applied in conditions of rotation speed variation up to 30% even for low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
       
  • BIDEMICS ceramic tool wear in the machining of AISI 316L steel

    • Abstract: Resumen Las nuevas herramientas cerámicas destinadas al maquinado de materiales termo resistentes, pueden ser una opción viable para el maquinado de los aceros inoxidables austeníticos. El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo mostrar los resultados del comportamiento, desde el punto de vista del desgaste, de una herramienta cerámica IDEMICS, durante el maquinado en seco y utilizando Mínima Cantidad de Lubricante (Minimum Quantity of Lubricant, MQL), del acero AISI 316L. Se desarrolló un experimento factorial completo, basado en una operación de torneado en seco y con MQL de una barra de 25 mm de diámetro, variando la velocidad de corte en tres niveles, 200 m/min, 300 m/min y 400 m/min y el avance en tres niveles 0,1 mm/rev, 0,15 mm/rev y 0,2 mm/rev. En el estudio se valoró el comportamiento al desgaste de esta herramienta y se determinaron los modelos que describen la velocidad inicial de desgaste. The new ceramic tools, intended for the machining of thermo resistant materials, can be a viable option for the machining of austenitic stainless steels. The present work aims to show the results of the behavior from the wear point of view, of a ceramic tool BIDEMICS, during the machining in dry and using Minimum Quantity of Lubricant (MQL), of the steel AISI 316L. An experiment based on a dry turning operation with MQL of a bar of 25 mm in diameter was developed, varying the cutting speed in three levels, 200 m/min, 300 m/min and 400 m/min and the advance in three levels 0,1 mm/rev, 0,15 mm/rev and 0,2 mm/rev. In the study, the wear behavior of this tool was evaluated and the models that describe the initial wear rate were determined.
       
  • Optimization of pipe networks by genetic algorithm employing the colebrook
           correlation

    • Abstract: This paper presents an optimization procedure for identifying the minimum cost of water pipe networks considering a table of commercial diameters. To this end, a real-coding Genetic Algorithm (GA) with the use of a simulated binary and convex crossover and mutation per variable; as well as a dynamic penalty strategywasdeveloped. A computer program to solve the hydraulic model based on the Newton-Raphson method wasdevelopedfor calculating the head loss using Hazen-Williams (HW) and Colebrook correlations. By analyzing a benchmark pipe network example, it is shown that different results are obtained by the HW and Colebrook correlations. Moreover, when simulating the best HW pipe network configuration with the Colebrook correlation, some constraints of the design are violated, indicating that the Colebrook formulation is more adequate to be used in conjunction with the GA due to the randomness of the GA with respect to the Reynolds numbers.Resumen Este artículo presentó un procedimiento para identificar el costo mínimo de redes de tuberías para agua considerando los diámetros comerciales diponibles. Para esto, fue desarrollado un Algoritmo Genético (AG) de codificación real con el uso de un cruzamiento binario simulado y convexo, mutación por variable y penalización dinámica. El método de Newton-Raphson es utilizado para calcular las pérdidas de carga empleando las correlaciónes de Hazen-Williams (HW) y Colebrook. Analisando una red de tuberías benchmark, es posible observar que los resultados obtenidos mediante el uso de las correlaciones de HW y Colebrook son diferentes. Además, al simular la mejor configuración de red de tuberías de HW con la correlación de Colebrook, se observa que algunas restricciones del diseño son violadas, lo que indica que la formulación de Colebrook es más adecuada para ser utilizada junto con la AG debido a la aleatoriedad del AG con respecto a los números de Reynolds.
       
  • The Robustness index as a parameter to evaluate the behavior of spur gears
           transmissions

    • Abstract: Resumen En el presente trabajo se introdujo un nuevo concepto denominado índice de robustez para evaluar la resistencia a la fractura de los engranajes cilíndricos de dientes rectos asimétricos, y se analizó cómo influyen las correcciones y la asimetría del diente en este índice. Para ello se realizó un diseño de experimentos virtual con dos factores de entrada y cinco niveles de experimentación. Se usó el Método de los Elementos Finitos, variando el coeficiente de asimetría del diente entre 1 y 1,35 y el coeficiente de corrección entre cero y 1,25. De este modo se calcularon las tensiones normales debido a la flexión en los dientes sin modificaciones y en los dientes modificados, evaluándose así el índice de robustez a la flexión. Se concluyó que combinando la asimetría y la corrección se puede aumentar la resistencia a la fractura en un 48 %. In the present paper, a new concept called the robustness index was introduced to evaluate the fracture strength of spur gears with asymmetric teeth, and it was analyzed how the corrections and the tooth asymmetry influence this index. To do this, a virtual design of experiment was carried out with two input factors and five levels of experimentation and the Finite Element Method was used, varying the coefficient of asymmetry of the tooth between 1 and 1.35 and the correction coefficient between zero and 1.25. In this way, the bending stresses in the teeth without and with modifications were calculated, evaluating therefore the robustness index to bending stresses. It was concluded that combining asymmetry and correction the bending strength can be increased by 48 %.
