Hybrid pseudonym change strategy for location privacy in VANET: protecting

  Abstract: In vehicular ad hoc networks, the vehicles are connected to exchange information to ensure the safety of users. However, its application and real-world deployment are condemned by the privacy risks which may violate the user's confidentiality. The nature of these networks prioritises the safety applications and facilitates the eavesdropping of the attacker. The vehicle periodically broadcasts beacons containing its spatiotemporal information. Moreover, these beacons need to be signed using its temporal public key. Since, none of the above facts can be eliminated, a solution that keeps them yet achieves the location privacy is needed. In this paper, we intend to preserve it by using a robust pseudonym change strategy. The proposed method aims to confuse the attacker when the pseudonym is updated. It is hybrid as it takes the advantage of hiding within the crowd when the update happens in dense roads, and if the vehicle is alone, it executes an obfuscation method to thwart linkability. The proposal is simulated using NS2 against global passive attacker that executes semantic and syntactic linking attacks. The simulation showed high privacy preservation level and strong resiliency to the above-mentioned attacks. A comparative study was added to further illustrate the robustness of our proposal.

Commutative encryption: an answer to privacy protected query
processing of multi data sources

  Abstract: This paper proposes a privacy-preserving collaborative query service by a service provider for customer's information on demand by secured processing of multi-source data. The customer and the data sources are unknown to each other. The service provider acts as a bridge between them for servicing the query while preserving privacy. The privacy of a query is determined by the constants associated with its predicates. Protecting the privacy of queries is an extremely important consideration for individuals/agencies that like to receive query results but do not want to reveal the query text. The data owners, on the other hand, are apprehensive about the privacy of their data and therefore hesitate to spare with their data. Moreover, the customer needs not to know who the contributors to the data are and the data owners should be anonymous to the customer as well. We have provided a solution to this problem. Secure data exchange by commutative encryption is the basic cryptographic approach considered in this work.

Privacy-preserving frequent itemset mining in vertically partitioned
database using symmetric homomorphic encryption scheme

  Abstract: Frequent itemset mining (FIM) and association rule mining (ARM) are two popular and widely used mining techniques for transactional databases with wide range of applications such as medical diagnosis, market basket analysis, protein sequences, census data, etc. In privacy-preserving frequent itemset mining (PPFIM) over vertically partitioned database, data owners wish to learn frequent itemsets from their concatenated dataset without disclosing their sensitive information. A collusion resistant scheme has been proposed using Du-Atallah's SBDP protocol for multiparty multi-vector scenario which works under two party two-vector case. Also, a scheme is designed by generalising the Du-Atallah's scheme for more than two parties. However it fails in privacy requirements when more than two parties/vectors are considered. In this paper, we give a critique on this approach and focus on efficient and more secure methods for privacy preserving FIM in vertically partitioned databases. To ensure privacy of raw data of different data owners having heterogeneous attributes, we proposed a secure-sum algorithm which uses symmetric homomorphic encryption scheme as a sub-part and a semihonest trusted third party (STTP) environment for calculating the support count of itemsets in privacy preserving manner.

The influence of product placement on TV news and journalists
self-evaluation of professionalism and private policy

  Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between TV news product placement and media professionalism, and try to understand whether the fourth right has changed in the contemporary media human resource management with product placement model. In Taiwan, product placement is not only used in drama, variety shows as a way of communicating with consumers, but also got into TV news content. In that case, journalists have to put some other information in news because of product placement. And that could change journalists' professional autonomy, job satisfaction and improve the tendency to leave media job. This study found that product placement can influence TV news quality and quantitative sharing and privacy policy. Contemporary journalists have a view of the product placement image and self-perception in their minds. The results of the study also found that product placement had an impact in four ways, such as 'professional knowledge', 'professional competence', 'social responsibility' and 'professional autonomy'.
