The aim of this article is to analyze the relationship between the thought of Jean François Lyotard and the american abstract expressionism. Firstly, we will study the ideas of Lyotard about Kantian aesthetics. Secondly, we will focus on the theme of the sublime. Finally, we will tackle the study of the concept of time that determines the connection between Lyotard and abstract expressionism.

The article explores the construction of an aesthetics in the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze beyond the period of his work where art (music, painting and cinema) obtains direct attention. According to Deleuze, aesthetics is not simply a disciplinary zone of philosophy, but is derived from a series of formulations developed from his earliest works until Différence et répétition and Logique du sens. During the sixties, concepts such as genesis, sign or forces, among others, stand out in his work to serve a rereading of empiricism -“transcendental empiricism”- which he understood as an aesthetics. Deleuze resumes the metaphysical imprint of these problems in the eighties to address artistic issues.

I propose a reading of some theoretical-critical texts published during the first decade of the twenty-first century, in order to perform a cartography of the complex weft of aesthetic knowledge and, in doing so, to consider new inflections and points of view to read the arts, the literature and its policies. The inquiries of Jacques Rancière, Andreas Huyssen, Nicolás Bourriaud, Reinaldo Laddaga and Néstor García Canclini are projected on the contemporary scene as reformulations of a discourse that tries to refer the work with form and sensation, now disseminated as a production that reorganizes the material and symbolic conditions of art in its dialogue with the world. Each of these authors make a unique characterization of contemporary aesthetics, all of which question the modern disciplinary rigidity to identify aesthetic practices as acts that can reorganize the sense of community and the ways of life through sensible exploration.

In the philosophy of art, the relationship between art and emotion is often affirmed, especially from the perspective of the so called “expressivist theories”, some of which argue that artworks embody emotions, while others claim that they express, arouse or communicate them. But the appeal to emotions is neither necessary nor sufficient to define art. Notwithstanding, the connection between both of them is important enough to attempt to reconcile theoretically art and emotion, following Collingwood, as well as opening paths for the consideration of the relationship between art and moods.

The poem collections Calamina and Amarillo crepúsculo show spaces and landscapes that acquire materiality in poetic language. Despite their clear differences, both texts configure space from a materiality crossed by modernity and its residues. The relation between landscape and poetry is studied using the concept of geo-poetics coined by Michel Collot in Pour une geographie litterair. The article purposes that the poetic subjects of these poems pose their looks on the landscapes’ memory understood as a ruin, instead of exercising the romantic contemplation of the sublime.

Theater internationalization is a phenomenon of recent concern in Latin-American regions. This internationalization favors countries’ cultural visibility and artistic and critic exchange as well as new economic benefits, among others. International circulation of theatrical plays leads to the creation of a repertoire -which I call an “exportation repertoire”–, that projects a cultural image of the country of origin. This image emerges as a result of a construction mediated by selection. The study of chilean plays presented abroad allows to observe the coincidences or divergences of the repertoire, identify different aspects involved in international circulation and meditate about the cultural image projected by theater.

The article proposes to inquire the heritage studies according to an alternative view. Elements as agency, materiality and ontology are fundamental, insofar as that notion is accompanied by factors as the destruction or the wear, the conservation or the restauration. In this sense, this paper deconstructs the movable heritage, which is feasible the move of fragments in diverse areas, as exponent of the modern objetivation. Also, it sets out at what extent these practices and the materiality influence the construction of epistemological discourses and disciplinarian categories relative to museums. Finally, it exposes a specific case: the introduction of material rests from the Jesuitical-Guaraní Missions to La Plata Museum, at the end of the 19th century.

  • La cofradía de las arañas. Mitos y ritos herméticos de las maestras
           textileras mapuches

We analyze central mythical material in the ideology of female mapuche textile masters and the initiation ritual that the aspirants to the title of textile master undertake. These myths refer to foundational mythical narratives that explain the key categories upon which the ideology of the female textile masters is built. The myth establishes the contextual and practical frame of the performative aspects of the ritual and the essential categorical system that every novice weaver must dominate. Likewise, textile initiation practices are coated by a thick aesthetics based in the spiders and women's web; textures, colors, icons and folds that visually complement the meaning of the myths and rites.

Beyond its allure, hindu art seems cryptic to us. The reason why is that we try to understand it from our own cultural parameters, ignoring its sociocultural and religious context of origin. This article considers the general study of the yantras as a means to reflect on the fundamental principles, norms and characteristics of hindu art, in relation with the religious traditions that provides its meaning. We assert that only a comprehensive aesthetical analysis offers the tools to understand its purpose and symbolism.

Traditional culture was the matrix of Fidel Sepúlveda's aesthetic reflection, matrix that constitued itself a model for a Chilean and Latin American aesthetics. On the other hand, the encyclical of Pope Francisco Laudato si (2015) became a phenomenon that transcended the strictly ecclesial world, calling for a cross-sensitivity to the environmental issue and the great spiritual crisis that crosses our civilization. Francisco resorts, among other things, to traditional culture as an alternative for future alternative development. Between both perspectives clear coincidences are observed in terms of approach, topics and possible solutions. This article purposes that both reflections meet in the formula “the option for the poor”, coined by Liberation Theology, an alternative assumed by Fidel from an aesthetic reflection and by Francisco as a theological-pastoral stance.
