  • Clarifying The Misconception in Differentiating between Manuscripts of
           Rasm 'Uthmani and Imla'i

    • Authors: Nurol Halimatulwara' Mumin, Ahmad Baha Mokhtar
      Pages: 15 - 26
Abstract: This paper will discuss the differences between the characteristics of mushaf written with rasm ‘Uthmani (‘Uthmani orthography) and mushaf written with rasm al-imla’i (Arabic orthography). Even though there are only six basic differences between these two types of mushafs, the researchers found out that many people are still confused in determining them. Thus, this study aimed to explain the differences between them and clarify the confusion. This study found out that the confusion originated from people’s misunderstanding of the differences between the science of rasm mushaf (the writing form of the Qur’an) and the science of dabt mushaf (determining the conventional signs of vocalization of the Qur’an). This also led to the misconception that dabt mushaf is the yardstick to determine the differences between rasm ‘Uthmani mushaf and non-rasm ‘Uthmani mushaf. In fact, rasm ‘Uthmani mushaf, which was written by the sahabah, did not contain the conventional signs of vocalization like the mushaf that we have in hand nowadays. The signs were actually applied to the Qur’an by the scholars at a later time.

  • Adopted Children and The Right of Civilization According to the
           Qur'an

    • Authors: Munadi Usman
      Pages: 27 - 40
Abstract: Child adoption is a social phenomenon that occurs in the community for generations since long. His position in the family differs from one region to another depending on customs and adoption systems embraced by the local community. In Islamic view, the adoption of a child may be justified insofar as it is done for parenting, not linking the nasab (blood relationship) and inheritance between the child and the adoptive parent. This study, in addition to revealing the typology of adopted children according to the Qur'an, reveals the rights of the child adoption in the family, especially related to the property rights of foster parents. The approach used is the tafsir maudhu'i method, by collecting all the Qur'anic verses relating to adopted children and their civil rights.

  • Development of Artificial Intelligence Base System for Teaching Classical
Arabic & Qur'anic Vocabularies for Urdu Language Users

    • Authors: Haq Nawaz
      Pages: 41 - 52
Abstract: “Classical Arabic” or “Fusha Arabic” is very important because the Holy Qur‘an was revealed in Classical Arabic. The Holy Qur‘an describes itself as an “Arabic Qur‘an” (Surah Yusuf:2). Secondly, it is the language of the Last and Final Prophet and Messenger of Allah Muhammad (s.a.w) and core Islamic literature is written in Classical Arabic. Arabic is one of the Semitic languages in which different variations of verbs, nouns can be obtained by prefixing or suffixing different characters in root word. Information technology (IT) has a vital role in modern era, learning process has undergone great changes and teaching institutes are using Virtual Learning Systems for teaching purpose. The existing systems for the Arabic language do not meet these modern changes. There is need to improve the state of the art by using advanced techniques to fill this gap.  This paper focuses on development of teaching system of Arabic conjugations for non-Arabs; initially it is designed for the Urdu users, with extensions to other languages also planned. This system is developed using techniques from Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This system till now covers the teaching of “علم الصرف” components. Towards this end, different algorithms have been designed that generate conjugations from the given root words and can additionally generate Urdu translations. The system also generates the runtime examinations as per learning syllabus of the student, and also recommends the weak areas of student where improvement is required.

  • Analysis of Humanitarian Intervention Implementation in Armed Conflicts
           from al-Qur’an Perspective

    • Authors: Muhammad Fahmi Md Ramzan, Mohamad Zaidi Abdul Rahman, Bharuddin Che Pa, Nurfarhana Mohd Daud
      Pages: 69 - 88
Abstract: This article debate about Islamic view on the concept and implementation of humanitarian intervention. Although the concept of humanitarian intervention was explored by the West, but the implementation also inseparable from the principles and values of Islam. Islam as a religion of peace uplift the dignity and human rights set out in the karomah insaniyah (human dignity). The values taught by Islam is parallel with moral principles such as protect, love and help each other in virtue which it can protect human rights. Gross violations of human rights in situations of armed conflict that could bring a humanitarian disaster such as ethnic cleansing and genocide should be stopped by appropriate and fair humanitarian intervention. It is to ensure the completion of a conflict effectively seeks benefits for all mankind, not for the benefit of any party. Thus, writer would like to highlight the Islamic perspective on the implementation of humanitarian intervention from holy Qur’an so that it becomes an absolute concept and should be implemented in accordance with the Shariah, international law and the international community.
