  • Development of Instrument and Transformation of Excellent Muslim through
           Love of Knowledge

      Abstract: Love as a motivational factor is a driving force to excellence and transformation of human capital. Starting with the call to  create a reading culture, it then developed into the generation of thoughtful culture which able to critically argues and analysis. The idea also need to be translated in the form of academical writing and disseminated to the general public so that ideas can be shared. Hence, the study reported in this paper was aimed at identifying the attributes of knowledge lover that can contribute towards excellence among Muslim youths in Malaysia. We were also interested in identifying the relationship between love of knowledge and excellence. For that reason, an instrument named as “Characteristics of Knowledge Lovers,” “Excellent Muslim” and “Transformation of Human Capital through Love for Knowledge” was created. The instrument was designed in stages. First, we analysed existing theories and concepts. Second prominent academics and students were interviewed in order to construct items for the questionnaire. Third, rater reliability was performed by asking five experts in psychology to review the items. A pilot study was then conducted to test the validity and the reliability of the questionnaire items. It was found that all of the sub-constructs are positively correlated,with the grand mean of 0.70-0.96 (very high) with significant level of p<0.01. In conclusion, the correlation between the sub-constructs are high. It is hoped that other researchers could apply the different stages of the development of the instrument in other fields.

  • Epistemologi dan Metodologi Sains Islam di Era Revolusi Industri 4.0

      Abstract: Revolusi Industri Keempat merupakan satu perubahan yang berlaku secara drastik kepada peradaban manusia di mana dunia menyaksikan penggunaan Internet of Things (IoT) dan perkembangan teknologi tanpa batas sempadan. Penggerak utama kepada Revolusi Industri Keempat ini iaitu sains dan penciptaan teknologi berasaskan IoT serta Artificial Intelligence (AI) merubah makna menjadi manusia (post-humanism). Sains dalam tamadun Islam muncul sebagai hasil daripada pandangan alamnya yang syumul, justeru sains era Revolusi Industri Keempat kini tidaklah boleh diterima kebenarannya secara membuta tuli kerana asas epistemologi dan metodologinya yang asing daripada asas epistemologi dan metodologi Islam. Berdasarkan premis di atas, umat Islam memerlukan sains yang tersendiri, hasil daripada pandangan hidup dan nilainya yang sejati. Karya ini meneliti premis epistemologi dan metodologi sains Islam berdasarkan kaedah analisis dokumen yang terkandung dalam penulisan beberapa orang pemikir Islam seperti Ziauddin Sardar, Alparslan Acikgenc dan Osman Bakar secara umum. Ia pada akhirnya merumuskan bahawa sains dan teknologi Islam mempunyai kerangkanya yang tersendiri dan menjadi alternatif kepada sains dan teknologi Barat.Epistemology and Methodology of Islamic Science in the Age of Industrial Revolution 4.0The Fourth Industrial Revolution is a great transformation that radically changes human civilisation through the application of Internet of Things (IoT) and advancement of technology without borders. The main driver for the Fourth Industrial Revolution is science and technology based on IoT and artificial intelligence (AI) that transform the meaning of being human to post-humanism. Science in the Islamic civilisation emerged as the result of its comprehensive worldview; therefore the science of the Fourth Industrial Revolution should not be accepted based upon its claim of truth purely because of its alien foundation in epistemology and methodology from the worldview of Islam. Based upon the abovementioned premise, the Muslim ummah needs itw own science that originated from the worldview of Islam and its own sets of values. This article studies the Islamic science premises in epistemology and methodology based upon document analysis method founded in the writings of some contemporary Muslim scholars namely Ziauddin Sardar, Alparslan Acikgenc and Osman Bakar. Finally, it synthesizes Islamic science and technology within its own framework and set to be an alternative to Western science and technology.

  • Fasa Dasar Luar Turki: Satu Kajian di Timur Laut Afrika Sejak 1523M

      Abstract: Dasar luar Republik Turki di Afrika semakin pragmatis sejak 2005. Pencapaian kerajaan Turki di wilayah timur laut Afrika walau bagaimanapun, adalah rentetan hubungan lampau yang dirintis oleh daulah ‘Uthmaniyyah semenjak kurun ke-16M. Oleh itu, objektif artikel ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti peranan dan hubungan sejarah ‘Uthmaniyyah dengan dasar luar kerajaan Turki. Kajian kualitatif ini dijalankan melalui kaedah kepustakaan serta berpandukan sumber-sumber berautoriti terutama daripada pihak kerajaan Turki. Maklumat yang diperolehi dianalisis bagi melihat persamaan, dibuat perbandingan serta menghasilkan interpretasi terhadap faktor yang menggerakkan dasar luar tersebut pada setiap fasa. Kajian mendapati, hubungan ‘Uthmaniyyah dan dasar luar Turki di timur laut Afrika telah melalui tiga tempoh fasa jatuh dan bangun. Fasa pertama tercetus atas pengaruh individu dalam dasar luar ‘Uthmaniyyah dengan perluasan wilayah serta menguasai laluan perdagangan. Setelah itu, berkembang kepada fasa organisasi separa-tersusun yang pada awalnya memberi perhatian kepada dasar perluasan kuasa dan asimilasi tersusun oleh Khedive Mesir, bertukar kepada kerjasama ekonomi dan kebudayaan sepanjang dekad 1950-an hingga 2000-an. Ketika fasa organisasi tersusun berlaku simbiosis antara agensi kerajaan dengan agensi bukan kerajaan (NGO) yang merangkumi kesatuan ekonomi dan kemanusiaan, menyaksikan keberkesanan dasar luar Turki yang semakin matang.Turkish Foreign Policy: A Study in Northeast Africa Since 1523ADSince 2005 Turkish foreign policy in Africa becoming more pragmatic. Turkey’s achievement in northeast Africa, however, had pioneered by their predecessor, the Ottoman dated back to the 16th century. Therefore, the objective of this article is to identify the features of each phases and Turkey roles in the said region. This qualitative study is carried out through literature refers mostly on authority sources mainly from the Turkish government. The collected information analyzed to obtain similarities, make comparisons and produce interpretations on the factors that are driving the policy in every phases. Study found that Ottoman relation and Turkey's foreign policy in the northeast Africa had undergone three up and down phases. First phase involved the individuals’ influences on the Ottoman foreign policies carried by the territory expansion and controlling the trade route. It develop into the semi-structured organization phase as the beginning focused on the power expansion and organized assimilation by the Khedive as well as the economic and cultural co-operation throughout the year of 1950-2000. On structured organizational phase, symbiosis merges between government agencies and non-government organization (NGO) likewise economic and humanitarian society shows the implication of the matured Turkish foreign policies.

  • Idea Sejarah Tanbih dalam Historiografi Hadiqat al-Azhar wa al-Rayahin

      Abstract: Artikel ini menganalisis idea sejarah tanbih dalam kerangka historiografi Hadiqat al-Azhar wa al-Rayahin karya Syeikh Ahmad al-Fatani. Syeikh Ahmad adalah seorang sarjana serba boleh dari rantau Nusantara yang menjalani proses pengajian di Timur Tengah. Beliau menghasilkan sebuah adikarya bertajuk Hadiqat al-Azhar yang turut mengandungi falsafah sejarah tentang tanbih atau peringatan. Fokus penulisan ini adalah untuk mencerakinkan falsafah sejarah Syeikh Ahmad dan pengaplikasiannya dalam Hadiqat al-Azhar. Penulisan ini mengaplikasi pendekatan kualitatif menerusi analisis kandungan dan kajian historiografi terhadap Hadiqat al-Azhar sebagai teks kajian. Hasil kajian mendapati idea sejarah tanbih Syeikh Ahmad adalah adaptasi daripada konsep cibrah dalam historiografi Islam. Tujuan dan aplikasi idea sejarah tanbih juga bertujuan untuk mendidik masyarakat Melayu melalui naratif sejarah yang dianggap dekat
      dengan mereka, bertujuan menyegarkan dan mengingatkan semula mereka terhadap perkara yang sudahpun diketahui. Penggunaan konsep ini juga terangkum melalui penulisan sembilan tema sejarah dalam kitab Hadiqat al-Azhar.The Tanbih Idea of History in Hadiqat al-Azhar wa al-Rayahin’s Historiography of Syeikh Ahmad al-FataniThis article analyse the tanbih idea of history in the historiographical framework of Hadiqat al-Azhar wa al-Rayahin by Syeikh Ahmad al-Fatani. Syeikh Ahmad was a versatile scholar from Malay Archipelago who spent most of his academic life around the Middle East. He produced an important masterpiece known as Hadiqat al-Azhar in which contained his philosophy of history pertaining the idea of tanbih or commemoration.The focus of this writing is to analyse Syeikh Ahmad’s philosophy of history and its application in historiography of Hadiqat al-Azhar. This writing
      applied the qualitative approach through content analysis and historiographical research with Hadiqat al-Azhar as the researched text. The results showed that tanbih idea of history is the adoption from the concept of cibrah in Islamic historiography. The purpose and application of tanbih idea of history also aims to educate Malay society through historical narratives which is close to them, refresh and remind them back to things that they already know. The use of this concept also synchronized through the sorting of nine themes in historiographical contents of Hadiqat al-Azhar.

  • Keperluan Penggunaan Modul Etika Kerja Guru dalam Meningkatkan Penghayatan

      Abstract: Untuk melahirkan masyarakat yang bertatasusila, bersatu padu, demokratik, adil dan progresif, setiap guru harus memainkan peranan sebagai role model kepada pelajar. Kepatuhan guru terhadap etika kerja Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia (KPM), kod etika guru dan Standard Guru Malaysia perlu dititikberatkan bagi melahirkan golongan pendidikan yang memiliki nilai etika yang baik dan berkualiti tinggi. Menyedari kepentingan ini, satu modul etika kerja guru telah dibina khusus bagi meningkatkan pengetahuan, kefahaman dan amalan tentang etika kerja bertujuan melahirkan guru yang berkualiti pada masa kini dan pada masa hadapan. Artikel ini memberi tumpuan kepada pembinaan modul tersebut yang telah dibuat berdasarkan Model Pembinaan Modul yang telah perkenalkan oleh Sidek Noah. Dalam membangunkan sesebuah modul, Model ini telah menetapkan dua peringkat, iaitu sembilan langkah di peringkat pertama dan dua langkah di peringkat kedua. Modul etika kerja ini telah melalui kesemua peringkat yang dicadangkan. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian yang dilakukan oleh pakar penilai modul mendapati bahawa aras pekali secara keseluruhan bagi kesahan modul adalah 0.79 dan kebolehpercayaan Alpha Cronbach untuk modul etika kerja KPM adalah tinggi iaitu 0.95. Dapatan kajian membuktikan bahawa modul etika kerja KPM ini mempunyai kesahan dan kebolehpercayaan yang tinggi. Kajian ini mendapati, semua aktiviti yang terkandung dalam modul ini adalah sesuai dan boleh digunakan sebagai alat, bahan, sumber dan panduan yang boleh memberi bimbingan, kesedaran, keinsafan, semangat dan motivasi kepada semua guru sekolah di seluruh Malaysia. Ia juga berupaya meningkatkan kesedaran dan kualiti tingkah laku para guru dan pelajar sekaligus meningkatkan penghayatan nilai murni dalam kalangan guru dan pelajar. Modul yang dihasilkan ini juga penting sebagai bahan rujukan untuk melahirkan para guru yang berkualiti pada masa akan datang.The Use of Teachers’ Working Ethics Module in Increasing Students’ Internalization of Positive ValuesIn the effort to produce a society that is civilised, unified, democratic, impartial, liberal and progressive, teachers should be the role model for the students. Based on this fact, teachers should act in accordance to MOE’s working ethics, teachers’ working ethics and Malaysian Teachers’ Standard as the main aim is to equip the human capital with knowledge as well as good integrities and moral values. With the understanding of teachers’ working ethics, it is pertinent that teachers observe their behaviours accordingly. Recognizing this importance, a teacher work ethic
      module has been specifically developed to enhance knowledge, understanding and practice on work ethics aimed at producing quality teachers today and in the future. This article focuses on the construction of the module that has been developed based on the Module Construction Model that has been introduced by Sidek Noah. In developing a module, the Model has set two stages, namely nine steps in the first stage and two steps in the second stage. The work ethic module has gone through all the recommended levels. Based on the evaluation result by a module evaluation specialist, it is found that the coefficient level for module validity is 0.79 and the Alpha Cronbach reliability for this module is 0.79 which is very high. The result findings showed that this module has a high validity and reliability. From this study, it is found that all the activities suggested in the module are suitable and usable as tools or resources, and can act as a guidebook that helps facilitate, gives awareness, inculcates the feeling of repentance and motivates all the teachers in Malaysia. The fact is, this module can help increase the understanding and quality in teachers’ and students’ behaviours. Indirectly, the internalization of soft skills or positive moral values can be inculcated, developed and enhanced which would result in the decrease of discipline problems among students.

  • Kesediaan Remaja Hamil Luar Nikah terhadap Program Kerohanian di Pusat

      Abstract: Penubuhan institusi perlindungan wanita di Malaysia adalah sebagai tanda sokongan terhadap usaha pemulihan yang dijalankan oleh pihak bertanggungjawab bagi membantu golongan remaja bermasalah. Secara umumnya, setiap institusi perlindungan beroperasi menggunakan modul tersendiri yang telah dibangunkan secara khusus oleh pihak-pihak yang berkepakaran, berpengalaman dan berautoriti. Matlamat utama pembinaan modul tersebut adalah bertujuan membangun dan memulihkan akhlak remaja bermasalah yang mendapatkan perlindungan di institusi tersebut. Ringkasnya, kandungan modul yang dihasilkan bersifat menyeluruh dan seimbang merangkumi aspek pembangunan jasmani, emosi, rohani dan intelek. Berdasarkan kajian lepas, penekanan terhadap aspek kerohanian dikenal pasti berupaya membantu remaja bermasalah dalam dalam proses pemulihan. Namun begitu, sejauh manakah mereka bersedia terhadap pengisian kerohanian yang dijalankan dalam proses pemulihan jati diri setelah meninggalkan pusat perlindungan kelak' Justeru, kajian ini dijalankan bagi mengenal pasti kesediaan remaja hamil luar nikah terhadap pengisian kerohanian di pusat perlindungan wanita terpilih. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan kaedah kajian kes. Dua teknik utama dalam proses pengumpulan data digunakan iaitu pemerhatian dan temu bual terhadap remaja hamil luar nikah di dua buah pusat perlindungan wanita terpilih iaitu Baitul Ehsan dan Asrama Bahagia. Seterusnya, dapatan kajian dianalisis secara tematik mengikut soalan yang telah disediakan terhadap sebarang isu yang timbul. Kajian mendapati remaja yang telah ditempatkan di pusat ini menunjukkan reaksi positif dan menerima setiap pengisian yang dijalankan dengan berlapang dada. Selain itu, majoriti daripada mereka juga didapati bersetuju dengan isi kandungan modul kerohanian yang disampaikan seterusnya bersedia untuk berubah ke arah yang lebih baik daripada sebelumnya. Kesediaan remaja ini penting sebagai kayu ukur dalam membantu penambahbaikan modul yang lebih berkualiti pada masa hadapan.The Readiness of Adolescent Pregnant Out of Wedlock in the Spiritual Program at the Women’s ShelterThe establishment of women’s protection institutions throughout Malaysia is seen as a sign of support for the ongoing rehabilitation efforts of responsible parties to assist problematic adolescent. Generally, each of these shelters operates on a separate module that has been developed specifically by the expertise, experienced and authoritative parties. The main goal of develop the module is to rebuild and restore moral problems of adolescents who are protected by the shelters. In summary, the content of the modules is comprehensive and balanced encompassing aspects of physical development, emotion, spiritual and intellect. Based on previous research, emphasis on the spiritual aspect was identified to assist the problematic adolescent in the recovery process. However, to what extent does they prepared for the spiritualization of the self-recovery process after leaving the shelter' There for, this research was conducted to identify the willingness of adolescent pregnant out of wedlock towards filled with spiritual life in the women’s shelter. This research uses a qualitative approach with case study method. Two main techniques in the data collection process are the observation and interviews juvenile adolescents in two selected women’s shelters namely Baitul Ehsan and Asrama Bahagia. The findings were analyzed thematic according to the questions prepared for any issues arising. Studies have found that teenagers who have been stationed in this shelter have shown positive reactions, received a changes and forgiveness. Most of them also agree with the content of the spirituality modules delivered and they willing to change for the better than before. This teen’s willingness is important as a measure and indicator in helping to improve the quality of the modules in the future.

  • Merangka Semula Falsafah Keamanan Sejagat dalam Konteks Malaysia

      Abstract: Malaysia masih kekal aman sejak kemerdekaan sebagai hasil daripada pelaksanaan ideologi dan dasar yang mengutamakan kepentingan semua rakyat di negara ini. Ideologi dan dasarnya yang sederhana digubal untuk menjanjikan keamanan dan kestabilan yang berterusan, dan rakyat sentiasa merasa selamat serta dapat menikmati manfaat pembangunan yang disediakan oleh kerajaan. Selain aktiviti pembinaan keamanan yang dianjurkan oleh Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu yang bertujuan untuk membantu negara-negara yang mengalami konflik, Malaysia kelihatan terselamat daripada cabaran tersebut. Walau bagaimanapun, di abad ke dua puluh satu ini, Malaysia sebenarnya menghadapi masalah yang lebih mencabar iaitu berkaitan perlanggaran etika, politik, ekologi dan rohani. Cabaran-cabaran ini mesti ditangani untuk mencapai keamanan sejagat. Kajian kualitatif ini menganalisis rangka kerja Malaysia berdasarkan falsafah dan cabarannya yang tersendiri, melalui penekanan kepada isu-isu tersebut. Jelas sekali, krisis sedemikian perlu ditangani menerusi prinsip realiti metafizik, yang terdapat dalam Falsafah Ketuhanan.Reframing Universal Peace Philosophy in Malaysian ContextMalaysia has remained peaceful since independence as a result of the implementation of ideologies and policies that consider the interests of all people in the country. Its moderate ideologies and policies are formulated to pledge continuous peace and stability, and the people always felt safe and were able to enjoy the benefits of development provided by the government. Besides United Nations peacebuilding activities which aimed at assisting countries from conflict, Malaysia is relatively free from such challenge. However, as the twenty-first century unfolds, Malaysia faces worsening ethical, political, ecological, and spiritual challenges. These challenges must be addressed in order to achieve universal peace. This qualitative study analyses the Malaysian framework based on its own philosophy and challenges, with emphasis on the issue. Clearly, the crisis needs to be addressed through a metaphysical principle of reality, found in the Divine philosophy.

  • Muslim Consumer Rights Based on Islamic Advertising Principles

      Abstract: The advertising industry is one of the biggest contributors to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and helps the local agencies in developing the nation’s economy. However, the Islamic advertising has not been clearly discussed in the National Advertising Policy. This creates a scenario where advertisement aired does not comply with the Muslim consumer rights as they are misleading and endangering consumer’s safety as well as overclaiming. There is also the abuse that occurred in relation to use of the halal logo and the use of models in the ads that do not meet the Sharia that can influence the behaviour of consumer, especially Muslim consumer. Therefore, this study was undertaken with the aim to examine Muslim consumer rights based on the Islamic advertising principles. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach by using semi-structured interview data collection method, while for selecting the informants it used purposive sampling. The data analysis was done using constant comparative analysis. The findings showed that there are eight important aspects in preserving Muslim consumer rights based on the Islamic advertising principles. Advertisers and consumers play an important role to this eight important aspect to safeguard the Muslim consumer rights. The findings discussed that the Islamic advertising principles help shape smart and bold Muslim consumers who are vocal enough standing for personal, cultural and religious wellbeing. The implications of this study to make those advertisers and consumers as individuals who are very meticulous about their right and responsibility in creating the market more transparent.

  • Pelaksanaan Amalan Talaqqi dan Mushafahah dalam Kalangan Pensyarah Tahfiz

      Abstract: Tahfiz al-Quran adalah satu mata pelajaran tradisi yang menjadi kebanggaan umat Islam sepanjang zaman. Kelebihan mempelajari bidang ini telah disebut dalam kebanyakan kitab muktabar karangan ulama silam. Di Malaysia, ia menjadi mata pelajaran teras dan wajib diikuti oleh semua pelajar dalam program tahfiz al-Quran termasuklah Diploma Tahfiz al-Quran wa al-Qiraat di bawah kelolaan Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia. Tonggak penting dalam pengajaran bidang ini adalah pensyarah atau tenaga pengajar yang melaksanakan pengajaran. Artikel ini adalah hasil analisa dapatan kajian berkaitan pelaksanaan amalan talaqqi dan mushÉfahah dalam pengajaran tahfiz al-Quran di Malaysia. Tulisan ini adalah hasil kajian kualitatif ini terhadap pelaksanaan amalan talaqqi dan mushafahah yang dilakukan semasa sesi pengajaran dan pembelajaran tahfiz al-Quran. Seramai enam orang pensyarah Tahfiz al-Quran dari empat buah Maahad Tahfiz di bawah Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia dipilih sebagai peserta di dalam kajian ini. Data kajian ini telah diperoleh melalui temu bual, pemerhatian pengajaran dan analisis dokumen. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan semua peserta kajian menyatakan bahawa mereka mengamalkan kaedah talaqqÊ dan mushafahah. Namun berdasarkan pemerhatian didapati kaedah tersebut tidak diamalkan sepenuhnya kerana mereka lebih mengutamakan kaedah tasmi’. Secara keseluruhannya dapatan kajian ini diharap dapat dijadikan panduan untuk meningkatkan lagi kualiti pengajaran dan pembelajaran tahfiz al-Quran melalui kaedah talaqqi dan mushÉfahah kerana kaedah ini telah dipelopori sejak penerimaan wahyu pertama ke atas Junjungan Besar Nabi Muhammad SAW melalui perantaraan Jibril AS.Implementation of Talaqqi and Mushafahah Practice in Teaching of Tahfiz Al-Quran in MalaysiaTahfiz al-Quran is a subject of tradition that is the pride of Muslims throughout the ages. The advantages of studying this field have been mentioned in most of the kitab muktabar. In Malaysia it is a core subject and must be followed by all students in all Tahfiz al-Quran including Diploma Tahfiz al-Quran wa al-Qiraat under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia. Essential pillars in teaching this field are lecturers or instructors who carry out teaching. This article is the result of an analysis of the findings related to the practice of talaqqi and mushafahah in the teaching of the QuranTahfiz in Malaysia. This qualitative study was conducted to examine the implementation of talaqqi and mushafahah practices performed during the teaching and learning of The Tahfiz al-Quran. A total of six lecturers were selected from four Maahad Tahfiz under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia selected as participants in this study. The data were collected data through interviews, teaching observations and document analysis. The findings show that all participants of the study state that they practice the talaqqi and mushafahah methods. However, based on observation, the method was not fully applied because they preferred tasmi’ method. Overall, the findings of this study can be used as a guide to improve the quality of teaching and learning of tahfiz al-Quran through talaqqÊ and mushafahah methods as this method has been spearheaded since the first revelation of al-Quran from the Jibril AS on the Great Prophet Muhammad SAW.

      membincangkan pendekatan Syeikh Daud al-Fatani dalam menganalisis permasalahan Sifat Dua Puluh. Isu-isu utama yang menjadi perbincangan artikel ini ialah: [i] persoalan sifat Allah SWT; [ii] hakikat kewujudan Allah SWT; dan [iii]
      pembahagian sifat-sifat Allah SWT. Penulisan artikel ini adalah berdasarkan kajian analisis kandungan. Sumber primer yang menjadi asas dalam penulisan ini ialah karya-karya Syeikh Daud al-Fatani seperti al-Durr al-Thamin, Ward al-Zawahir dan Jawahir al-Saniyyah. Kesimpulannya, pendekatan Syeikh Daud al-Fatani dalam pembahagian sifatsifat Allah SWT kepada sifat dua puluh adalah pengaruh daripada al-Sanusi dalam memahami persoalan sifat. Walau bagaimanapun Syeikh Daud sebagaimana al-Sanusi tidak mengisbatkan bahawa sifat Allah SWT hanya terbatas kepada dua puluh sifat sahaja kerana sifat kesempurnaan Allah SWT tidak ada had dan batasannya.Sheikh Daud al-Fatani’s Approach in Analyzing the Issues of ‘the Twenty Attributes’Sheikh Daud bin Abdullah al-Fatani (1133H-1847M) or his full name is Wan Daud bin Wan Abdullah is a prolific scholar of the Nusantara and his works are still refered to this day. This article discusses the approach of Sheikh Daud al-Fatani in analyzing the issues of ‘the Twenty Attributes’. The main issues that became the discussion of this article were: [i] the question of the attributes of Allah SWT; [ii] the essence of the existence of Allah SWT; and [iii] the division of the attributes of Allah SWT. The writing of this article is based on a content analysis study. The primary sources underlying this work are the works of Sheikh Daud al-Fatani such as al-Durr al-Thamin, Ward al-Zawahir and Jawahir al-Saniyyah. In conclusion, the approach of Syeikh Daud al-Fatani in the division of the attributes of Allah SWT to ‘the Twenty Attributes’ is the influence of al-Sanusi in understanding the attributes of Allah SWT. However Sheikh Daud as al-Sanusi does not specify that the attributes of Allah SWT is not limited to twenty attributes only because the perfection of Allah SWT has no limits and limitations.

  • Qur’anic Guidelines for Personality Development and Collective Work

      Abstract: Islam is a perfect religion and it provides a complete code of guidance in all human activities. Not only does it prescribe beliefs and rules governing man’s relationship with his Creator, the Almighty Allah swt, but it also lays down detailed guidelines regarding the conduct of man in his relationship with his fellow beings. This study explored on personality development and collective work which founded the key role in determining generic skills in Islam. This article is based on textual analysis of selected issues mainly in the Qur’an, sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and other relevant sources in Islam. Overall, the findings show that personality development could be built up through physical training by merging their diet and nutrition with exercise, through spiritual training by purifying their soul via “tahajjud” and mental training by participating in “usrah” and acquainting with the reality of current society. For collective work, ta’aruf and tafahum, as the pre-requisites, should be practiced via ta’awun and takaful which could generate the multiple efforts of many people. This article is expected to highlight the Qur’anic guidelines for personality development and collective work in order to provide guidance to the Muslim especially graduates and employee.

Bagi mengurangkan konflik dalam pertuturan, Islam telah menggariskan beberapa panduan dan syarat yang harus dipatuhi bagi seorang Muslim untuk mengekalkan komunikasi yang harmoni dengan bersandarkan kepada dua sumber utama iaitu al-Quran dan hadis. Tujuan utama penulisan artikel ini adalah untuk berkongsi hasil kajian berkaitan strategi kesantunan berbahasa yang terdapat dalam al-Quran dan Hadis. Kajian yang menggunakan kaedah analisis kandungan sepenuhnya ini telah mengupas dalil-dalil daripada al-Quran dan Hadis bagi mengukuhkan isi perbincangan kajian kesantunan bahasa. Selain itu, maklumat yang diperoleh daripada buku, artikel, jurnal dan tesis yang mengupas tentang perbahasan para sarjana berkaitan aspek kesantunan bahasa turut dikenalpasti bagi mendapatkan data sokongan. Hasil analisa dapatan kajian mendapati terdapat 4 strategi dikemukakan dalam al-Quran dan hadis dalam memupuk kesantunan berbahasa iaitu strategi salam, strategi komunikasi, strategi doa dan strategi syukur. Secara keseluruhannya, keempat-empat strategi yang dikemukakan ini membuktikan bahawa nilai kesantunan berbahasa menjadi panduan asas masyarakat untuk menggalakkan komunikasi yang lebih berkesan dan harmoni selari dengan tuntutan agama.The Strategies and Guidelines of Language Politeness from Islamic PerspectiveLanguage is a medium as a means of communication for people to connect to each other. However, the use of language might lead into conflict when the values and politeness are neglected. To minimize the chance of the conflict, Islam has outlined some guidelines that Muslim must adhere to maintain the balance and harmonious communication which based on al-Quran and Hadis. The main purpose of this study is to review the strategies of language politeness which are based on quran and hadis. This study is using both content analysis and qualitative method. The arguments from the al-Qur’an and the Hadis will also be used as the main sources in the study language politeness. Literature reviews taken from the books, articles, journals and theses containing the discussions among the scholars are also have reviewed to support the data analysis. The study found that there are 4 strategies mentioned in the Quran and hadis, they are: salaam/greeting strategy, communication strategy, prayer strategy and gratitude strategy. As the conclusion, the stated strategies prove the language politeness becomes a basic guide for the society to promote more effective and harmonious communication parallel with the religious demands.

  • Understanding Salafis, Salafism and Modern Salafism

      Abstract: The use of the term Salafism in modern times is ambiguous and confusing in many ways. This ambiguity can be realized when many Salafis themselves are not entirely clear as to what Salafism entails, assuming that it is simply to follow the Quran and Sunnah – a problematic definition since it implies that others do not. Furthermore, due to the ambiguity of the term, Salafism in an actual broader sense is claimed by all Muslims, in that the universal Islamic ideal is to imitate the Prophet and the early Muslim community. This paper provides an understanding on the world of Salafism, particularly the phenomenon of modern Salafism. It begins with a brief definition of Salafism, its history and attempts to discuss its realities and complexities in the modern world. The paper also highlights the various groups and categories of modern Salafis as observed by several academics and commentators. It concludes with an analysis of the ideology, characteristics and components of modern Salafism.
