  • Analysis of the UK Tropical Freshwater Fish Market & Developments for
           Innovative Transportation Models

    • Authors: Marc Cowan
Abstract: The following research project has been produced in order to analyse the UK Tropical Freshwater Fish Market and the most prominent Importers, Distributors, Wholesalers & Retailers within the country.  This project will also look further into the pricing, popularity and varieties of fish that are purchased by consumers in the UK. Finally we will look at a new innovative strategy, which has never previously been combined to such strict measures, for the transportation of tropical fish. This model ensures tropical fish experience less stress during their journey, with increased survival rates and extended life spans, whilst abiding by any regulations from authorities. After analysing all of these different areas, it will allow any new Importer & Distributor to make a well-informed decision as to whether or not the UK is a promising market to enter. Along with an extremely detailed specifications to adhere to, when transporting tropical fish across the world. The findings for this research are that the UK has a vast market for Ornamental Tropical freshwater fish, which continues to grow every year and has great potential. This however comes with lots of fierce competition in every stage of the supply chain. There have been a few key steps determined, which would need to be implemented in order to allow for the successful start of a new Importer & Distributor within the country. These steps have been displayed within the conclusion below. Lastly the innovative model to transport tropical fish further across the globe, has been demonstrated by combining and streamlining ten influential areas with newer technologies to create a revolutionary system. Strict regulations and time frames that are to be maintained and adhered to at all times in order for the success of this model.

  • Appraising Relationship between Education and Economic Sector in Nigerian
           Economy

    • Authors: Adaobi P. Onuselogu, Uju. F. Ughamadu, Gladys O. Uzochina
Abstract: The main thrust of this paper was to appraise the relationship between education and economic sector in Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design and was guided by two research questions and one null hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population comprised 720 senior staff of public tertiary institutions (academic staff = 310 and non-teaching staff = 410) in Anambra State, Nigeria. The sample was 500 respondents randomly drawn from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli. An instrument developed by the researcher and validated by three experts was employed to gather data. The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The result of data analysis showed a positive relationship between education sector and the economic sector in Nigeria. This implies that the decline witnessed in the economic sector is as a result of poor attention given to the education sector in Nigeria by the stakeholders. The paper therefore recommends increased funding for the education sector and a review of the school curriculum to make it more relevant to the needs of the Nigerian society.

  • Manpower Planning and Education Innovations: the Nigeria’s
           Experience

    • Authors: Adaobi P. Onuselogu, Stella Ezeaku, Ohamobi Ifunanya
Abstract: Education is the means by which citizens are equipped with the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills that will enable them contribute meaningfully to national and human development. This paper therefore examined the need for manpower planning and education innovations in Nigeria. A survey design was used for this study with a population of one hundred and thirty –three (133) academic and administrative staff from the rank of Deans, Heads of Departments and Senior lecturers from eight (8) tertiary institutions in South- Eastern parts of Nigeria. No sample was used since the population was small and manageable. Research questionnaires where used to collect data from participants. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while the t-test and chi-square were used to test the hypotheses at P-value of 0.05 or 5% level of significances. The findings of the study revealed that manpower structure in the Nigerian education sector had been able to yield the expected results. It equally revealed that education in Nigeria in the last two decades had undergone a series of tremendous structuring and restructuring which resulted to under utilization and loss of trained manpower in the teaching profession. However, the research paper offered practical suggestions to find solution for the situation so that the Nigerian educational system can stem the over-production of real manpower needs for the required national development.

  • Physics Process Skills and Its Acquisition on Secondary School Physics
Students in Aguata and Nnewi Education Zones of Anambra State

    • Authors: Theresa Ugonwa Okafor
Abstract: This research work aimed at studying Physics process in skills and its acquisition by senior secondary students who wish to pursue Physics at Senior Secondary, the subject enables the students to participate in technology related studies in tertiary institutions. Many students opt out of Physics at the end of Senior Secondary level. Physics process skills are central to the acquisition of scientific knowledge which is useful in solving problems in society. Physics science as an integral part of science is known to be very important in a nation’s development. The process skills of physics are invaluable tools for learning physics, and the acquisition of these skills has therefore been greatly emphasized in recent times. However, the often reported poor performance of secondary school students in physics, especially in this research to ask whether secondary school physics students actually acquire and use physics process skills in their study of physics, and to what extent. This study, conducted in Anambra State of Nigeria, was intended to provide empirical evidence to answer these questions. It was further intended to determine how such factors as gender and school location affect students' acquisition of physics process skills. Fourteen (14) physics process skills identified from the National Curriculum for Science (Physics) as the most frequently' occurring skills, were studied. The design of the study was survey in which the researcher studied events as they are in their natural setting. Six research questions were posed and addressed while three hypotheses were formulated and tested at the 0.05 level of significance. A total sample of 756 SS three (3) physics students (514 Boys and 242 Girls) randomly drawn from both, urban and rural secondary schools in two education zones Aguata and Nnewi of Anambra State participated in the study. A Test of Physics Process Skill (TOPPS) designed by the researcher was the instrument used for gathering data. The data collected were analyzed using means and standard deviations for answering the research questions, while the analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for testing the hypotheses. The major findings of this study are that: (i) the level of acquisition of physics process skills among Anambra State Secondary school physics students was generally low; (ii) gender is a significant factor (p<.05) in the students' level of acquisition of physics process skills, in favour of the male students; (iii) students located in urban schools were significantly superior (p<0.5) to their rural located counterparts in their acquisition of physics process skills; (iv) there was no significant interaction effect (<.05) between gender and school location in students' level of acquisition of physics process skills. A number of educational implications were pointed out and relevant recommendations made. Limitations of the study were noted and suggestions for further research made.

  • Prevalence Of Hypertension Among Adults In Selected Two Communities In
           Delta State Nigeria.

    • Authors: Jessica Amaka Ogbogbo
Abstract: This is an explorative survey carried out to find out the prevalence of hypertension among adults age 40 and above of two communities in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. Five Hundred and Twenty Five (525) respondents were selected based on availability and convenience. These respondents were drawn from two communities namely: Alihame and Ekuku-Agbor. Data was collected using structured interview, stethoscope, sphygmomanotneter and record from outpatient department in the health centers of the two communities. Findings show that the mean age and weight of respondents are 46 years and 64.4kg respectively. Forty-five percent (45%) respondents reported increase in systolic blood pressure: thirty-three percent (33%) had increase in diastolic blood pressure, while about twenty-two percent (22%) had increase in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. There is twice the chance that a woman will be hypertensive than a man. Increase in blood pressure is highest between 41 and 60 years of age. The prevalence of hypertension is about fifty-eight percent (58%). The research questions; can age, gender, weight, life style, race and stress affect blood pressure was answered to indicate that age, stress, weight, life style, race can affect blood pressure but no significant effect of gender on blood pressure. It therefore follows that prevalence of hypertension in this Local Government is high. It was recommended that public enlightenment programme be organized to educate the people of this Local Government about the rate and the management of high blood pressure and also that government should make anti-hypertensive drugs readily available in primary health center.
