  • EFFECT OF REGULAR AEROBIC EXERCISES ON INFLAMMATORY MARKERS IN YOUNG ADULT
           WOMEN

    • Authors: Halit Buğra KOCA; İrfan YILDIRIM, Özkan IŞIK, Tülay KOCA, Tuncay BAL
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of eight-week regular aerobic exercise on inflammatory markers in young adult women. Twenty-seven young adult women participated in the study as a volunteer. Participants were performed regular aerobic exercise consisted of 75 minutes per session 3 days per week for 8 weeks. C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels were determined in blood samples taken from participants before and after aerobic exercises for eight weeks. Differences between pretest-posttest measurements in the study were determined by Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. According to results of the present study, it was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test values of TNF-α, IL-6, and CRP levels of the participants. As a result of the study, regular aerobic exercises for 8 weeks have been found to reduce participant’s levels of serum TNF-α, IL-6 ve CRP and shows that regular aerobic exercises can reduce the risk of getting chronic diseases.

  • EFFECTS OF THE FOAM ROLLING ON RANGE OF MOTION, FLEXIBILITY AND LOWER
EXTREMITY EXPLOSIVE POWER IN FEMALE BASKETBALL PLAYERS

    • Authors: Ajlan SAÇ; Merve AKTAŞ, Halil ÇOLAK
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of foam rolling (FR) on hip range of motion (ROM), flexibility and verticaljump (VJ) performance in female basketball players. In the study which was conducted with the voluntary participation of atotal , the participants were randomly divided into two as the FR (n=10; age: 19.7±1.4 year; height: 173.0±6.5 cm; mass:71.0±10.9 kg) and the static stretching (SS) exercise groups (n=10; age: 20.3±2.5 year; height: 176.7±8.1 cm; mass: 74.0±12.9kg). The participants are a total of 20 female basketball players who had no injury in the last year. The measurements werecarried out in the first day and at the end of the three days after FR and SS exercise sessions including 48-hour rest periods.Goniometer was used for hip ROM, sit and reach test was used for flexibility and, lastly VJ test was used for jump height andpower output, respectively. The paired sample t-test was used in the analysis of groups' pre-test and post-test outputs, whereas independent t-test was used in comparison between groups. Pre-test and post-test intragroup statistical analysisresults showed that FR caused a significant difference in ROM and flexibility parameters (p<0,05). However, no statisticaldifference was found in comparisons between groups (p>0,05). It was observed that using FR with female basketball playershad a positive acute effect by increasing ROM and flexibility results. It is thought that foam rolling can be beneficial in additionto stretching sessions in warm-up periods before the trainings and competitions

  • THE HEALING EFFECT OF FOOTBALL TRAININGS ON LIPID PROFILE AND MUSCLE
DAMAGE MARKERS IN 11-13 YEARS OLD BOYS

    • Authors: Muzaffer SELÇUK; Tahir Volkan ASLAN, Hacı Bayram TEMUR, Vedat ÇINAR
Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate thehealing effects of soccer training on lipid profile and muscle injury markersin 11-13 year old boys. A total of 40 volunteer students studying at VanDumlupınar Elementary School between the ages of 11 and 13 constitute the sampleof the study. The participants had various intensities of football trainingregularly with an average of 2 hours  dayand 3 days a week for a period of 8 weeks. The data were obtained at relaxedpre-exercise and post-exercise rest state. While the pre-exercise HDL level was45.91 ± 12.32, post-exercise HDL level was 52.05 ± 14.04 and a statisticallysignificant result was found (p< 0.01). CKlevel was 359,50 ± 138.06 when in the resting state before the study and 247,15± 119,54 after the study and it was significant (p< 0.01). Again, changes were observed in LDL,cholesterol and LDH levels and a statistically significant result was found (p< 0.01). No significantresults were found for the HDL, LDL, cholesterol, CK, LDH parameters of thecontrol group (p>0.05). Itis thought that regular football trainings may cause positive changes inchildren's biochemical parameters and affect health positively.

  • THE MOTIVATION OF LEISURE TIME ACTIVITIES PARTICIPATION OF THE TEACHERS IN
THE INSTITUTIONS OF PRIMARY EDUCATION IN KEÇİÖREN PROVINCE OF ANKARA

    • Authors: Bahadır Rıza ALTUNAY; Velittin BALCI
Abstract: The evaluation of growing leisure timetogether with the development of technology has become an important issuetoday. Teachers’ participation into these types of leisureactivities and the motivation levels are extremelyimportant in terms of theeducation sector. For this purpose, in the said study; the motivation of leisure timeactivities participation of the teachers in off-hours was examined. Thepopulation of the study consists of the teachers from various fields working inthe primary schools in Keçiören district of Ankara. The survey sample groupconsists of 1075 male and female teachers randomly selected among approximately4,700 teachers working in the primary schools in Keçiören district. In thestudy, Leisure Motivation Questionnaire (LMQ) which was developed by Mutlu, İ.(2008) was used and the results were analyzed with the statisticalmethods.According to the results; it has been observed that thesignificantdifferences have been derived because of the independent variables discussed inthe five sub-dimensions of Leisure Motivation Questionnaire (LMQ) but thesedifferences have increased at most in the sub-dimensions; ‘amotivation’, ‘toknow and to accomplish’ and ‘external regulation’.It has been found out thatthe motivation of participating leisure time activities for 45 + age groupdepends on the external factors, however, the motivation of the youngerteachers depend on internal factors. It has been found out that the women’smotivation unlike the men’s are higher in all sub-dimensions except ‘externalregulation’ but the teachers with a 24 + length of service have lessmotivation. It has been observed that the teachers of Social Sciences grouphave higher scores as compared with the teachers of Art&Physical Educationand Elementary school teachers groups both in the dimensions of  ‘to know and to accomplish’ and ‘identified /introjected’.Moreover, It has been concluded that the education factorincreases the motivation in the sub-dimension ‘to know and to accomplish’, yet, the marital status and the incomelevel variables don’t increase the motivation of leisure time activitiesparticipation of the teachers.

  • THE EFFECT OF CHAOS ON ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE: A STUDY ON THE TURKISH
           PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL CLUBS

    • Authors: Selçuk AÇIKGÖZ; İbrahim EDİN
Abstract: The relationship between the concepts of chaos and organizational change may not lead to one outcome most of the time. Although the concept of chaos is used to refer to negative outcomes in social life, it also expresses more than a negative state and expresses change both in social sciences and positive sciences. In this respect, this research aimed to probe the effect of chaos on organizational change and the consequences these changes create in the long term within Turkish professional football clubs. The study also aimed to obtain information regarding the inner mechanisms of clubs and find out how chaotic, non-linear processes impact the organizational changes in professional clubs. In this regard, 14 executives of Professional Football Clubs from 4 different leagues were interviewed. The interviews were semi-structural and the questions were formed by taking the literature and the general states of the clubs into consideration. Phenomenology was chosen as the design of the research and the data collected were analyzed with content analysis method. The themes were generated using thematic coding. Research findings show that chaotic moves and actions help football clubs to get out of their static structure and enable changes in organizations. The results also show that chaos enables football clubs to initiate change, yet, due to the internal and external issues affecting the clubs, changes end up causing more problems in the short term. The study concludes that change initiatives of football clubs not only lead to inefficiency of changes but also reveal detrimental outcomes, without resolving the fundamental problems of the organizations. Additionally, it was also found that individual drives of executives have more importance than organization goals for initiating change in sport clubs.
