  • Social representation of the community setting, context to generate
           writing practices

This paper raises the need to consider the socio-cultural features to create learning scenarios where reading and writing practices constitute a tool of academic achievement. The sample consisted of 48 high school students from a Chilean public school. Data were collected using a Likert-type scale and focus group. Obtained information was qualitatively analyzed considering the Social Representations theory; thus, core and peripheral elements related to beliefs, opinions and attitudes about the students’ context were identified. Results showed that peripheral elements of students’ social representation would provide inputs to generate didactic designs that would strengthen the literacy levels.RÉSUMÉ: Cet article soulève le besoin de penser aux particularités socioculturelles pour créer des scénarios d´apprentissage où les pratiques de lecture et d´écriture constituent un véritable outil de progrès scolaire.

  • Charter Schools’ Myths and Assumptions: analyzing the “Colegios en
           Concesión” of Bogotá

Despite its modest expansion (72 schools, 107,000 students), the CEC enjoy international recognition in both academic and policy practice fields (e.g., for the World Bank or the Inter-American Development Bank); in these fields, CECs are generally considered as a paradigmatic and, to a great extent, successful model of charter schools. Based on the theoretical-methodological framework of realistic evaluation, and through a fieldwork that includes both qualitative and quantitative techniques, this article challenges the hypothesis and results of the CEC program and, at the same time, discusses the general assumptions of the charter schools’ model.RÉSUMÉ: Les « Colegios en Concesión » (CEC) sont un programme charter qui est mis en œuvre en Colombie depuis 1999.

  • Education and literacy of youth and adults in Colombian Caribbean region
and its impact on work and income

Is evaluated the impact in work and income produced by beneficiaries of the Program Education and Literacy of young and adults in Cartagena and Cordoba Department. The study is supported on the theory of human capacities and the descriptive statistics. Some of the achievements are the increase of job opportunities, the application of new concepts, as opposed weaknesses identified himself as the little support and little variation of income.

  • Childhood, Normativity and Children’s Rights: contemporary
           transitions

The globalization of a certain model of child and childhood was established in the 20th century through legal documents with a Eurocentric matrix and ideological and cultural hegemony, which had already been identified in the literature of childhood studies. They pointed out the exclusion of children that do not fit in the framework in which these bases are established: the condition of childhood in the middle and upper classes of industrialized societies. The debate about the normativity of childhood is crucial to prevent children from being excluded from the condition of childhood, both theoretically and socially.

  • Gender relations in toys catalogs: (contra)indications to play

This paper aimed to discuss gender relations portrayed in toy catalogs of Company X, located in southern Brazil, from 2009 to 2015. As from an analysis of the images presented in catalogs, changes and continuities in the production and supply of toys were found. Initially targeted to girls or boys, the offered toys demarcated boundaries for the feminine and the masculine. When all the toys began to be indicated for girls and for boys, a camouflaged binarism was maintained and problems of color appeared. In this scenario, it is considered that, amid the changes that have already occurred in gender relations, production and supply of toys are also changing, but at a slow pace.RESUME: Cet article vise à discuter les relations de genre représentées dans les catalogues de jouets de la société X, qui est situé dans le sud du Brésil, pendant la période de 2009-2015.

  • The translation of john dewey in the authorial collection biblioteca

Para tanto, analisam-se os volumes da coleção, as edições estadunidenses desses textos e a correspondência entre os editores.ABSTRACT: The paper analyses the translation arrangements of John Dewey’s texts made by Anísio Teixeira, in the Biblioteca de Educação (BE), headed by Lourenço Filho. It describes the materiality of this authorial collection, distinguishing its editorial formula which establishes, at least partially, the translation arrangements of texts poured into Portuguese. Such historiographical operation allows to analyze the strategies assumed by the editor to reach readers and to present knowledge to be disseminated in the polemical reconfiguration of educational field. It analyses the volumes of the collection, the American editions of the texts and the editors’ correspondence.RÉSUMÉ: L’article analyse les modalités de traduction des textes de John Dewey faites par Anísio Teixeira, en Biblioteca de Educação (BE), dirigée par Lourenço Filho. • Social memory and individualization in the trajectory of engaged actors in
           heritage education projects

Na segunda, a partir de estudo empírico, objetivou analisar a trajetória de um ator envolvido em práticas de educação patrimonial, a fim de examinar a composição das pautas de suas proposições políticas e a suposta individualização de suas intervenções nos municípios em que atua.ABSTRACT: Assuming the hypothesis of Joel Candau about the current validity of processes of individualization and fragmentation of social memories, this article aims to analyze the correspondences between social memory and individualization in the trajectory of social actors engaged in patrimonial education projects in Brazil. To this end, it mobilizes two analytical strategies. In the first, it aims to summarize the main contours of the individualization processes in Modernity and its institutional dimensions, inspired by the sociological approach of Ulrich Beck. In the second, based on an empirical study, it aims to analyze the trajectory of an actor involved in heritage education practices, in order to examine the composition of the guidelines of his political propositions and the supposed individualization of his interventions in the municipalities where they work.RÉSUMÉ: En assumant l’hypothèse de Joel Candau sur la validité actuelle des processus d’individualisation et de fragmentation des mémoires sociales, cet article vise à analyser la correspondance entre la mémoire sociale et l’individualisation dans la trajectoire des acteurs sociaux engagés dans des projets d’éducation au patrimoine au Brésil.

  • Mother-to-child education: factors associated with educational mobility in
           Brazil

Em 2012, o fato de o adolescente trabalhar também favoreceu a mobilidade educacional ascendente.ABSTRACT: Upward intergenerational mobility can be understood as the situation in which children overcome the schooling of their parents. The aim of this study was to identify which factors are associated with higher odds of 16 to 19 years old teenagers, children of poorly educated women, being able to complete, at least, primary school. Although modest, this is a recent development in the country and still occurs unevenly. The data used are from Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (National Survey of Households, 1996 e 2012). The results indicate that adolescent females, whites and those with fewer siblings have greater chances of upward mobility.

  • Teaching knowledge and pedagogic mediations for teaching sociology at
schools: a study of undergraduates training in Social Sciences at the
           University of Brasilia

This paper is about social, cognitive and institutional aspects related to the problem of the mismatch between the academic trajectory, teaching knowledge and pedagogic mediations in Social Sciences expressed in the teaching practice of teachers and bachelors in Sociology working in public and private schools from the Brazilian Federal District. Based on questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and documental analysis, we reached a typology of representations of teaching practices in Social Sciences, which can be categorized in: institutionalized, disconnected andpropositional. We can conclude that both challenges and perspectives to the subject Sociology in the high school form of Brazilian Federal District involves, necessarily, the balance between the transmission of academic contents adapted to the social and cognitive profile of the students and the academic and teaching knowledge of the teachers whowork in diverse and adverse scholar contexts.RESUMÉ: Cet article développe des aspects sociocognitifs et institutionnels liés au décalage de la formation pédagogique, des savoirs enseignants et des médiations pédagogiques en sciences sociales avec la pratique de l’enseignement des étudiants du premier cycle en sociologie et celle des enseignants des écoles publiques et privées au District Fédéral du Brésil.

  • The usefulness of an exact investigation: literature and education

This article sought to address some elements of the critical debate elicited by naturalist literature and to associate them with recent discussions in Brazil about the inadequacy of some books for use in primary education, based on the examples of Monteiro Lobato and Adolfo Caminha. Thus, a survey on some accusations, such as obscenity and immorality released against many novels written in the late 19th century, was carried out. These novels aroused reaction and defense by the writers, notably the French Émile Zola, whose novels and theoretical work were extensively discussed in Brazil. Therefore, it was expected to show that the literary text requires a reading able to consider the specificities of its composition, which would result in an approach to the controversial text in education other than its simple condemnation.RÉSUMÉ: Cet article vise à dégager quelques éléments du débat critique suscité par la littérature naturaliste et les relier à des discussions récentes au Brésil au sujet de l’insuffisance de certains livres pour une utilisation dans l’éducation de base, prenant les exemples de Monteiro Lobato et Adolfo Caminha.
