  • Emotional education in health education: a matter of Public Health

The holistic model of health requires the inclusion of emotions in prevention and promotion policies. A systematic review was carried out in databases Medline, PsychInfo, and ERIC to check the extent to which emotions are covered in health education. Sixty-six of the 648 papers reviewed were accepted, presenting a wide range of topics, theories, and terms regarding emotional health. Therefore, health education strategies that take emotions into consideration are still underrepresented in scie.jpgic literature. Moreover, a great terminological and theorical diversity is found among the ones that incorporate emotional health, hindering knowledge dissemination and generalization of results. The need for an implementation of a health education model where emotional education is included as an essential part of it, according to recent scie.jpgic advances is clearly shown.

  • Quitting smoking, cognitive behavioral therapy and differential profiles
           with decision trees

The aim of this study is to analyse if gender, nicotine dependence, and emotional variables (anxiety, depression, and anger) help to describe a patient profile that could benefit from a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to quit tobacco addiction. The sample consisted of 120 adult smokers who voluntarily received the CBT. Decision trees were used to assess patients' treatment adherence and program success. Data showed that just programme adherence implied a high success probability (86.4%), increasing to 95.6% when participants showed a high anger response. Besides, treatment adherence was 100% when anxiety in an evaluative context, physiologic anxiety, and motivation were high. Finding these differential profiles would help to determine the patient profile that would benefit most from treatment, and would increase their effectiveness.

  • Bullying in the Basque Country: prevalence and differences depending on
           sex and sexual orientation

However, there are groups with a higher risk of suffering these aggressive behaviors, especially the LGTB group. This study has three objectives: (1) to analyze the prevalence of victims and aggressors of bullying among high school adolescents; (2) to explore differences based on sex; and (3) to identify differences based on sexual orientation. A sample consisting of 1,748 adolescents from the Basque Country completed two questionnaires. The results show (1) a high percentage of victims (41.6% global, 11% severe), as well as aggressors (28.5% global, 2.7% severe); (2) that girls show greater victimization and boys show aggression; and (3) a higher percentage of non-heterosexual victims, especially gay and bisexual. In conclusion, LGTB people show greater vulnerability to suffer bullying and, therefore, the need to develop and implement anti-discrimination programs in the educational community.
