  • An intelligent system to connect or disconnect home appliances and
           monitoring energy levels using IoT

      Abstract: The present paper proposes the enlargement of software and hardware for an intelligent system to connect or disconnect home appliances using internet of things. Using IoT we can monitor and control the energy level systems anywhere in the world. An intelligent system is to connect the internet via Wi-Fi module through all smart devices, like PC equipment, installed framework gadgets and so on which has massive improvement of IoT to develop gradually and persistently. IoT-based applications are arranged and used in various differentiated areas for human services for open security and this system have been implemented using smart power monitoring and controlling through internet of things. Power can be consumed by different home appliances and monitored by power levels from data and can be accessed through hall effect current sensor. In this paper, an intelligent system is created to control family smart applications instantly by utilizing Wi-Fi empowered smart phone.

  • Multi-keyword synonym search over encrypted cloud data using classified
           category-dictionary and BMIS tree

      Abstract: Due to the emerging popularity of cloud computing (CC), the individuals and organisations are driven to outsource their private data onto the cloud service provider (CSP) in order to achieve less maintenance cost, great flexibility, and ease of access. The data normally encrypt before outsourced to the CSP, which obsolete plain-text searching techniques over encrypted cloud-data. Thus, this paper presents an efficient and accurate multi-keyword synonym ranked search method over encrypted cloud data (MKSRSE). The objectives of MKSRSE are as follows: 1) to build a balanced m-way index search (BMIS) tree; 2) propose a modified depth first search (MDFS) technique to search for the top score ranked documents; 3) propose a classified category-dictionary; 4) propose a methodology to extract keywords from each category documents to form the category sub-dictionary. An extensive research shows that the proposed mechanisms provide better search efficiency and accuracy in comparison with other existing techniques.

  • A performance measurement system for R&D activities in the software
           sector

      Abstract: R&D activities in the software sector have a key role as they lead to sustainability of the sector and rapid development activities with shorter cycles. The importance of R&D activities in this sector requires an effective performance measurement system for companies to evaluate the performance of R&D activities. Hence, this study aims to establish a performance measurement system that is applicable to the software industry. The study consists of a sequential mixed method where first key performance indicator, drawn from preliminary interviews and then the data from 2012 to 2016 are collected and analysed. The results are interpreted by conducting in-depth interviews with performance management departments. This study uses various performance indicators for R&D oriented sectors combining them with the new KPIs that are specific to the software sector. The implemented method is used to rank the performance of a software company effectively. The study offers many performance-oriented interrelationships between financial, innovation, education, customer-oriented, and organisational factors. The study also offers interesting findings, related to the quality-versus-quantity measures indicating highly qualified employees lead to higher quality levels in research and patent applications rather than a higher number of outputs.

  • Finding the pot of gold: leveraging social capital in international
           new ventures

      Abstract: The authors seek to advance the understanding of social capital in the acquisition of other types of capital in the early stages of international new ventures (INVs). International technology-based new ventures are important for the growth of an abundant economy, yet little is known about how these firms utilise social capital to develop the resources required to initiate these firms. Here, we add to the literature by first defining INVs as firms that establish foreign operations, not just foreign sales. We then empirically demonstrate that social capital acquisition and use affects the development of the resources (capital) needed for the INV development - strategic, financial and managerial. Our results demonstrate that the development of social capital precedes other forms of capital acquisition for INVs.

  • Legitimate firms or hackers - who is winning the global cyber war?

      Abstract: In order to enable reliable service products, the internet of things (IoT) technology infrastructure must withstand global hacking events. How is the IoT faring in the cyber security war? Is it winning or is it losing? If the IoT is losing, there is cause for concern. If the IoT is winning, then there is cause for optimism. Yet there is a third possibility - stasis. What would this look like? Why would it occur? We seek to add to the growing body of literature on the IoT. We add to the IoT literature by applying learning curves to major global cyber-attacks to investigate whether the predators (hackers) or prey (firms) have developed a decided advantage in this arena. We provide finding from a variety of industrial ecosystems. Our theoretical contributions include the integration of this literature with the literature of technology innovation sequencing, business cycles and the nature of service products.
