• Evolutionary economics, organisational evolution, and behavioural
approach: in search of commonalities
• Authors: Katarzyna Piórkowska, Ewa StaÅ„czyk-Hugiet
Pages: 237 - 253
Abstract: The overarching aim of the paper is to find the commonalities amongst evolutionary economics, organisational evolution, and behavioural approach and more specifically to conceptually clarify the extent to which the driving forces of organisational change can be explained by those fields. The aim has been realised through extensive literature studies and deductive referring. The key findings are as follows: 1) the separation of micro (individual) level from macro (organisational) level of analysing organisational behaviour requires a call for an integrative theory taking into account routine and non-routine organisational behaviour as the potential tool enabling an organisational change; 2) the behavioural theory of the firm seems to be well positioned to integrate constructs across levels as well as to integrate the phenomena inquired in evolutionary economics and organisational evolution fields since it stems from analysing individual decision-making along with process explanations for economically important firm decisions
Keywords: evolutionary economics; organisational evolution; behavioural approach; behavioural theory of the firm

• Individual investors' attitude towards online stock trading: some
evidence from a developing country
• Authors: Rajdeep Kumar Raut, Niladri Das
Pages: 254 - 267
Abstract: The present study attempts to investigate the individual investors' intention to use online stock trading in the Indian capital market using the theory of planned behaviour (TPB). Responses were collected from 280 individual investors applying convenience sampling approach. Data was analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM) to evaluate the investors' attitude for online investment, influence of social pressure and perceived behavioural control on the intention for online investing and finally on actual usage. The findings reported that the TPB model was supporting the objective of this study and all the constructs have shown positive influence on online investment behaviour. Attitude towards online trading was found to be most influencing factor whereas subjective norms showed its least impact on intention of individual investors.

• Organisational ecosystem and stakeholders view.In search of
epistemological logic in management
• Authors: Rajdeep Kumar Raut, Niladri Das
Pages: 268 - 283
Abstract: In the article, an effort has been made to outline the differences and similarities between two essential concepts used in management science. It is the business ecosystem, also known as the organisational ecosystem and the stakeholder theory. Particular attention has been paid to the relations between organisations in an ecosystem and in the stakeholder model. The aims will be realised through discussing the following research questions: Q1) What is the characteristic structure and the traits of business ecosystem? Q2) What epistemological grounds do business ecosystem ideas grow on? Q3) What are epistemological toots of the stakeholder theory? Q4) What are the typical traits of the stakeholder idea used in strategic management? Finally, the criteria differentiating the two concepts have been presented and a comparison of stakeholder versus business ecosystem has been carried out.

• The contextual meaning of routines
• Authors: Rajdeep Kumar Raut, Niladri Das
Pages: 284 - 297
Abstract: A number of studies are dedicated to the comparison between the concepts of routines developed by different scholars. The available literature, however, offers scarce studies that confront the theoretical proposals for the understanding of routines with their understanding by non-theorists. The results of the analysis that are presented in this paper can be seen as an attempt to fill this gap. The goal of the paper is to identify the general differences and similarities between the theoretical and non-theoretical meaning of routines. The idea of the empirical investigation draws on the idiographic approach.
Keywords: routine; organisational routines; non-theoretical meaning of routines; change in routines

• An evolutionary model of science policy: routines and the growth of
knowledge in policy-making organisations
• Authors: Maureen McKelvey, Rögnvaldur J. Saemundsson
Pages: 298 - 311
Abstract: This paper proposes an evolutionary model of science policy. The paper draws upon evolutionary economics and associated applications to theory of the firm on routines and the role of knowledge in decision-making. This strand of literature is called the growth of knowledge perspective, because routines are assumed to embody useful knowledge about problems to be solved and potential solutions to them. This paper develops a conceptual model, based upon this literature and Campbell's evolutionary epistemology. The paper proposes that the equivalent of firm routines is, in the science policy context, public policy alternatives such as policy instruments. Moreover, the paper develops notions of science policy fields, and puts them in an evolutionary model in order to understand the creation of variety, retention and selection amongst policy alternatives.

• Incentive under market system along with informational symmetry to boost
up customer attitude toward self-service banking: a proposal
• Authors: Maureen McKelvey, Rögnvaldur J. Saemundsson
Pages: 312 - 331
Abstract: With the aim to explore the implications of increased self-service banking, this paper argues that PCBs have failed to exploit the potentials of self-services. This is because it bases its customer-service designs on an incomplete business model. Offering incentive under market system along with informational symmetry can enhance self-services. This proposition ensures the business model to be complete and places itself as an add-on to behavioural intention theories in literature. Using economic theory of consumer choice and behaviour, the impact of value configurations of the proposal is evaluated and found it to be influential, over other forms, in changing customer's beliefs, intentions, attitudes and behaviours. Informational symmetry in this market may undercut possibilities of getting framed, which can further influence customer's desires for increased self-services. Under the proposed model, PCBs can marginalise its operating cost and users can gain monetarily in proportion to its number of transactions on monthly basis.

• Comparative evolutionary study on transitions of national innovation
systems in the Baltic Region
• Authors: Monika Petraite, Vytaute Dlugoborskyte
Pages: 332 - 355
Abstract: The paper provides an evolutionary study on the transition of national innovation systems (NIS) within the catching up economy context in the Baltic Region. The regional and institutional context provides an exceptional chance to look at the evolution of economies from planned economy towards free market, and reaching advanced high economy profile over 25 years (International Monetary Fund, 2015). However, the authors argue, that economy transition does not simultaneously lead to the technological upgrading and sophistication of NIS. The comparative evolutionary data analysis in three Baltic States, namely Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, that reached advanced economy profile in 2015 (IMF) is used to illustrate the statement. The period of study encompasses ten years of membership in European Union (2006-2015), and aims at providing the national innovation system transition trends from the evolutionary perspective. The authors aim to provide the reader with the broad overview of transition patterns taken. Empirical findings demonstrate the differences in national innovation system transition, whereas Estonia demonstrates balanced development of national innovation system, and Lithuania together with Latvia demonstrate asymmetries and stagnating development despite successful economic transition.

• Machiavellianism, perception on tax administration, religiosity and love
of money towards tax compliance: exploratory survey on individual
taxpayers in Bandung City, Indonesia
• Authors: Monika Petraite, Vytaute Dlugoborskyte
Pages: 356 - 370
Abstract: The purpose of this research was to test several psychological and cultural theme variables towards tax compliance. This research will present the study about four independent variables: Machiavellianism, perception on tax administration, religiosity, and love of money towards the tax compliance. Data were collected using five sections, 47 questions by using a questionnaire. The population in this research is the individual taxpayer working as an employee in Bandung City. 100 samples were selected, using simple random sampling. The results were then analysed using multiple regressions analysis. The results showed that perception on tax administration and religiosity positively affect tax compliance, while other variables do not significantly affect tax compliance. The regression coefficient sign shows no contradiction with underlying theory. The overall model was considered fit, with all independent variables explaining 22.4% of dependent variables.

• Vietnam's retailer and performance enhancement: proposed theoretical
model from strategic leadership and collective organisational engagement
perspectives
• Authors: T. Uyen Nguyen, Siti Rohaida Mohamed Zainal
Pages: 371 - 389
Abstract: This study aims to highlight a key role of strategic view in leadership and engagement as well as emphasise its consistency in modelling a conceptual framework in retail industry. Based on the integrated groundwork of theories (i.e., resource-based view, upper echelons, social exchange and the evolution of strategic leadership), this study attempts to explore the potential drivers of organisational performance in retail industry from the strategic leadership perspectives with the mediating role of collective organisational engagement (COE). All of these variables are approached consistently at organisational level under the light of strategic view. The propositions are also logically formulated to visualise the findings. This study is believed to make significant implications for further empirical research as well as the development of management in retail industry.

• A cellular automata model for safe investment based on expert's
recommendations
• Authors: Tessy Mathew, L. Jeganathan, U. Srinivasa Rao
Pages: 390 - 400
Abstract: Traditional stock trading methodologies (ARMA, ARIMA, regression, etc.) are used to analyse price behaviour and then produce signals namely BUY, SELL or HOLD. Our proposed work is to develop a one-dimensional cellular automata model that helps new investors who have zero knowledge on stock market trades. The one-dimensional cellular automata (1D CA) model processes the existing recommendations or advices from the experts who possess a very good knowledge on stock market trades. Based on different expert recommendations, the CA model will give financial alerts that will help the investor to take buy/hold/sell decision on stocks. Hence new investors can either make a profit or at least keep them in safe zone (minimum loss). The trading rules in this model give highest priority to sell the share and lowest priority to buy the share. This model gives recommendations to investors regarding the selling, buying and holding of a stock/stock segment.
