  • Implementasi Inovasi Budidaya Stroberi di Agrowisata Banyuroto Kabupaten
           Magelang Melalui Education for Sustainable Development

      Abstract: The cultivation of strawberry needs of technological innovation to gain competitive advantage strawberry fruit quality and quantity. This is motivated because the decline in the production of strawberries in the area and quality of strawberry fruit is still low. Since 2012 until now, Laboratory of Genetics has identified and developed the character of phenotype and genotype of strawberry plants in Agro Banyuroto, Village Banyuroto Sawangan District of Magelang regency. Character genotypes studied through the identification of ploidy with cytogenetic approach and apply poliploidisasi technology that aims to double the number of sets of chromosomes in order to obtain a plant that has the character of superior phenotype compared with the control. The purpose of this activity was to awaken the capacity of communities that were able to develop and utilize natural resources to meet human needs while maintaining the environmental implementing action plans that lead to sustainable development in a sustainable manner. The method was executed in this activity was the cultivation of strawberries by exploiting natural resources Banyuroto village environment that was using bamboo, strawberry cultivation techniques with vertikultur systems. Moreover, the carrying capacity was also supported by the promotion of village tourism as central region Banyuroto strawberry cultivation of strawberries superior to tourists every week, promotion through Online system (in the network) by utilizing Information Technology and Computing and community empowerment with the diversification of food made from strawberries. The end result of this activity was obtained hallmarks of crops polyploidy were plant growth faster, the ability of the formation of stolons and nursery faster, leaf area and stem diameter was wider, the stem stout and roots were longer, the fruit produced was greater and a sweeter taste with more red fruit color. Innovation strawberry crop is expected to be followed by the cultivation of sustainable optimal as possible so that the results obtained are able to improve the welfare of farmers in Banyuroto strawberries.

      Abstract: Barchan types of sand dune region (barchanoid dunes) is a geographic landmark that is formed by the activity of wind that precipitated to form resembles a crescent moon. In general, sandbanks formed in the desert area, however, but uniquely, it is formed in Indonesia wich is tropical zone and has high rainfall. Therefore, the formation of sand dunes in the Parangtritis village is the only one in Indonesia, and even in Southeast Asia. The purpose of community service program are (1) improve the understanding of the community and the partners on sustainable development through the implementation of Community Services; (2) promote knowledge-based Conservation of sand dunes to local partnerships, cooperation, society, government, and other stakeholders.The methods in the implementation of community service programs include: (1) the initial observation, (2) mapping the problems, (3) dissemination, (4) FGD by involving sand dunes users, (5) assistance program to the public, i.e advocacy on “rembug warga” to determine the programs that will be organized in order to use sand dunes wisely (6) workshop on the conservation of sand dunes and creative economic activity, and (7) the documentation and exploration.Output of this community service programs are: (1) increasing the capacity of institutions and stakeholders; (2) increasing the involvement and range of universities in community service programs; (3) the increased adoption of expediency results of research activities and community service for the wider community; and (4) dissemination of activity results in the form of products publication. Outcome obtained from this activity is a collective commitment to develop Desa Parangtritis in order to realize the vision of "Among Tani Dagang Layar".

      Abstract: Waste management generally is the responsibility of local government.“Kartamantul” cooperation of waste management in Yogyakarta, Sleman and Bantul, waste disposal is concentrated in TPSA (waste dump) Piyungan, particularly in Sitimulyo Village. The volume of the waste is increased which leads to the limitation of TPSA capacity. Recently, government has been experiencing difficulty to provide waste dump facility. In this critical period, the participation of college institution to deliver its sollution and devotion is highly required. Universitas Gadjah Mada, as one of college institutions that concerns to problem raised in environment, has carried out society empowerment. Through action research methodology and data collection technique of direct participative observation, interview, documentation, and focus group discussion can arrange action plan. UGM team along with the society continuously performs experiments until KPSM has professional to produce both solid and liquid organik fertilizer. The intensity of education, consultation, and mentoring has resulted in KPSM capacity enhancement. Pioneering program in environment and household waste management is the opening to the development of “Sitimulyo” organik fertilizer. Besides organik fertilizer produced with organik waste is used by local community, it also has been sold to consumer.

  • Pemberdayaan Peternak Marginal: Studi Kasus di Wilayah Banguntapan Bantul

      Abstract: Over the recent years, villagers in the countryside havefaced the problem of limited resources for livestock and crop productions. Decreased land quality and agricultural land areawith respect to the increased need for housing landhas resulted in economic and environmental problems for livestock farmers in this area. Most livestock farmers have poor standard of education, limited ownership of land and livestock, and  are not capable of managing the natural resources in sustainable ways. The present services for small livestock farmersare aimed to transform the unintegrated livestock and agricultural farming into  a sustainable integrated system in the marginal community. Some efforts were conducted to improve knowledge and skills in zero waste system in livestock and agricultural farming by livestock farmers in marginal areas. The present community development programs were conducted using farmer-centered learning methods (participative learning) and mentoring by professionals on the implementation of sustainable integrated farming system (learning by practice). Furthermore, institutional development and cooperative networking with related parties were carried out. Results showed that the livestock farmerswere able to adopt integrated farming practices and the community was capable of independently producing organic fertilizer from livestock wastes and converting agricultural byproducts into animal feed. Both farmers and villagers have come together to cultivate fruit and vegetable plantations in vacant lands and back yards which were previously unused. The farmers’ group has successfully networked with the related partners to ensure sustainability of environmental conservation efforts and improvement of livelihood. In conclusion, active participation of farmersin the marginal area throughout the development process and mentored-practice are key factors for successful agricultural transformation in the marginal community. Implementation of the sustainable integrated farming system will ensure food security, environmental protection and safety, conservation of natural resources, and better quality of life.

      Abstract: Mushroom farmer society Sedyo Lestari is located in the Argosari, Sedayu, Bantul. The high demand for mushrooms media (baglog) is a good business opportunities for this farmer society. But the process of baglog making requires a lot of energy in the form of firewood, especially for sterilization process of the baglog. On the other hand, the mushroom cultivation process itself remains the waste that can be used as fuel for the sterilization process. So far Sedyo Lestari farmer society members do not have the technology to used the mushroom cultivation waste as a fuel. Therefore, it is imperative to transfer knowledge of biomass briquetting technique. The method used in this activities are socialization, training, and mentoring by starting with the introduction of briquettes and briquetting technology. Subsequently made briquette-making machines followed by training briquette making. Mentoring and socialization were also made to all members of farmer society. Outcome of these activities was briquette-making machines that can be used by all members of the society as well as knowledge about the process of making briquettes. The benefit of using briquettes of mushroom cultivation media waste as fuel for subtitute the firewood can provide savings to the expenditures of farmers for buying firewood and solving the waste management problems for farmers.

      Abstract: Nyamuk Village is a village in the form of an island in Karimunjawa Islands, which is located at 5°48'33.44" S - 5°49'11.78" S and 110°10'51.09" E - 110°11'53.85" E. The majority of people working as a fisherman and a small proportion become craftsmen, farmers, traders, and government officials. The village has marine resources are very abundant, but the distance which reaches 28.6 km from the District of Karimunjawa, make this village a more isolated than the other islands in Karimunjawa Islands. Limited access to communication, information, and education in this community become one of the issues that need to be resolved. GSM phone signal range that does not exist and the lack of internet access, making communication, information, and education in this village are still underdeveloped. The solution to overcoming these problems, it is necessary to implement Internet technology to improve access to communications, information, and education in the Nyamuk Village, Karimunjawa Islands. The existence of free internet access in this village is expected to have a positive impact and improve the lives of the community.

  • Farm Recording Kelompok Tani Timbul Karya Kecamatan Paliyan Kabupaten

      Abstract: Farmers group of “Timbul Karya” has variousassets being rent yet systematically recorded. This community service activity aims to help the farmer group for: (1) preparing the rental activities form filling of assets withitsraining and (2) analyzing the feasibility of soybean farming of the farmer group. Methods used in this community service are training and mentoring. Mentoring is done on making asset management form and analyzingthe farming feasibility, while the training is done with administrative management subject. The administration form consists of on farming activities, save and loan of paddy grain, rental of farm equipment, and rental of partyequipment. The training activity to give a performance description of the group empowerment. The results of the analysis of soybean farming provide R/C value of 2.81 which means that the farming were profitable. Farming analysis also shows that the increasing of soybean production can be solved by enlarge the planted area and the use of urea fertilizer. In addition, given advice to review the increase in revenues, government should giving high soybean prices shifting as well as providing assistance for the production facilities to reduce the productioncost.

      Abstract: This Community Service program is funded by DIPA scheme of RISET DIKTI No. DIPA-042.06-0.1.401516/2016, which implicated two entrepreneurship groups of empowering woman: Sanggar Jenggolo in Pandean District who produce batik and Sekar Arum (then called ‘Code Arum’) in Cokrodiningratan district who produce jumputan or tie-dye, both in Yogyakarta city. The two groups had been incubated and assisted by The Office for Women and Society Empowerment (Kantor Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Masyarakat—abbreviated as KPMP) of Yogyakarta Municipal Government for three years. After the accompaniment they face declining of production since it does not fulfill with the business and promotion assistance. Therefore this Community Service program aims to encourage the sustainability of the group with the creation of a Business Plan and Strategy of Promotion to penetrate the target market. We were conducting the training, providing with supporting tools based digital, and producing attributes for their promotion. Furthermore there were outcomes achieved; (A) the core of a Business Plan so that each groups has a priority of their business as well as a guideline for evaluating the development of its business during period of Business Plan. (B) The attributes of corporate identity is implemented through a variety of promotion sale.

  • Upaya Peningkatan Tingkat Pengetahuan Siswi MAN 2 Palembang Mengenai
           Sindrom Pra Menstruasi

      Abstract: Premenstrual syndrome characterized by affective, physical, and behavior symptoms with moderate to severe grade, that usually recurrent every luteal phase of menstrual cycle and disappear within menstruation. The frequency of premenstrual syndrome is still high, in Indonesia and all over the world. To overcome this situation, there should be a health promotion. The aim of this community service was to increase the girl’s knowledge of premenstrual syndrome. This community service was held in one day on November 2016 in public islamic high school MAN 2 Palembang. The schedule was start with pre test consist of 15 questions, counseling sesssion using power point media, discussion session, and post test consist of the same questions to measure the knowledge after counseling. Pre test score showed that 13.9% students had good knowledge and post test score showed an increase of good knowledge (66.7%). Conclusion, heatlh education through counseling method bring a change of knowledge.

  • IbM Pengendalian Hama Terpadu (PHT) pada Tanaman Sayuran di Kota Tomohon

      Abstract: An integrated pest control on vegetables crops in the fields,  is one of the control method to suppress the insect pest population , therefore farmer do not depend on the chemical controls that have negative effect both on the environment and human as well as animal.  The science and technology program for communities [IbM] aim to get a package of integrated pest control technology that is enviromentally friendly and it is derived from Indonesian microbial resources to support sustainable agriculture system .  To achieve  the goal, the program  implemented  through counseling, plot demonstration and field work.  These activities provided motivation  to farmers to be able to use biological agents combined with culture control to suppress population of insect pest and vegetables through the extension activities and the plot  demonstrations.  The IbM activity gave benefit to farmers by transfer knowledge through extension methods on how to get and use biopesticides with its theory and it can be directly practiced by farmers in the form of a plot demonstrations.
