  • Recyclers seek to shift EU position on proposed cut to decaBDE limit
    • Abstract: Publication date: November 2018Source: Additives for Polymers, Volume 2018, Issue 11Author(s): Concern has been raised by plastics recyclers in Europe regarding proposed changes to the European Union's regulation on persistent organic pollutants (POPs). An amendment to the POPs regulation would see the concentration limit for brominated flame retardant decabromodiphenyl ether (decaBDE) in mixtures and articles slashed to 10 ppm, 100 times lower than the existing limit of 1000 ppm (0.1% by weight) permitted under the REACH regulation. EuRIC, the umbrella organization for Europe's recycling industry, argues that this would effectively prevent the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) or end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) in Europe.
