The company's methacrylates business has invested a ‘low single-digit million euro’ sum at the facility and the additional capacity is scheduled for start-up in the third quarter of 2018.

           fluids
    • Abstract: Publication date: June 2018Source: Additives for Polymers, Volume 2018, Issue 6Author(s): In India, Wacker Metroark Chemicals Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between German company Wacker Chemie and India's Metroark, is expanding the silicone production capabilities at its existing Amtala site near Kolkata with the opening of a new hydrosilylation plant for the manufacture of functional silicone fluids. Investment in the plant, which has a capacity in excess of 6000 tonnes per year, was approximately €6 million. According to Wacker, the expansion is in response to growing regional demand for speciality silicones from several sectors, including the production of rigid and flexible polyurethane foams.

According to the company, this advanced additive technology represents a new technical approach to enhancing the coatability of polyolefins. The product was introduced at Chinaplas at the end of April.

The new grade is a blue tone, white pigment that can be easily integrated into rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastics, and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films, Venator reports. Tioxide TR42 was launched at the recent Chinaplas 2018 tradeshow in Shanghai, where the company also unveiled heat-dissipating zinc sulfide filler Sachtotec® TC.

The new capacity will be phased in several steps with the first incremental volumes scheduled to become available in the second half of 2019, before the expansion is completed in early 2020. The company reveals that the project represents the single largest investment made at Martinswerk in the past 40 years.

The High Point facility represents an investment to date of some US$4 million.
       
  • Oxea reveals partner for DOTP manufacturing venture

In order to achieve this target, the company has entered into a cooperation agreement with fellow German firm Oxxynova, a producer of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), which will result in the construction of a DOTP production unit at Oxxynova's manufacturing site in Steyerberg.

The company says that the new testing service will enable producers to discover for the first time if the plastic packaging or products they make can be detected via near-infrared (NIR) sorting. NIR is unable to detect black and many coloured plastics because the pigments used in their coloration strongly absorb IR radiation, effectively making them ‘invisible’ to sensors.
