Faced with its growing prevalence, preventing it by informing the population is essential.

SummaryAfter birth, it is essential to support parents having chosen to breastfeed to limit early discontinuation. If the breastfeeding mother has to take medication, the risk-benefit balance must be assessed. When breastfeeding results in discomfort or pain, the pharmacist must inform and advise the young mother.

SummaryTo improve the coordination of the treatment of cancer patients, regional oncology networks have been identified as a key organisation. Each French region has such a network structured on two geographical levels: a territorial network providing patients with coordinated, continuous and local care and a regional network able to coordinate health operators on a national scale. This article presents the example of the ONCOPL, a regional oncology network in the Pays de la Loire region.

SummaryIt's currently estimated that 4% of men and 3% of women will suffer from colorectal cancer before the age of 75. Despite recent advances in treatments, the prognosis remains unfavourable with a five-year net survival rate of 63%. This disease is thereby the second most deadly form of cancer in France. Different chemotherapy protocols are used to treat it, including molecules available in the pharmacy, placing the pharmacist on the front line.

SummaryDetected early enough, colorectal cancer can be cured in nine out of ten cases. These data justify early and organised screening, facilitated by the provision of a fast and effective immunologic test performed at home. This programme is aimed at women and men between the ages of 50 and 74 who are invited every two years to consult their general practitioner. By encouraging populations to self-test, the pharmacist is involved in this preventive approach.

SummaryColorectal cancer is the second most deadly form of cancer after lung cancer in western countries. Screening plays a crucial role in its early detection, evolving generally from a benign polyp. The symptomatology is typical with more or less serious digestive conditions which require medical attention as soon as they become chronic. The community pharmacist can play a key role in providing advice for preventing the risk factors.

SummaryAtrial fibrillation is the most common form of arrhythmia. Its pharmacological treatment is complex and requires strict and codified monitoring depending of it is valvular or not. The community pharmacist therefore has an important role to play in the care of patients receiving this treatment, notably with the dispensing of anticoagulants.

  • Évaluez-vous !
    • Abstract: Publication date: June 2018Source: Actualités Pharmaceutiques, Volume 57, Issue 577, SupplementAuthor(s): Jacques Buxeraud, Sébastien FaureCette formation doit se faire progressivement.

SummaryOutside the fields of oncology, infectious disease medicine and rheumatology, gastroenterology, pulmonology and the metabolism-nutrition sector have benefited from new drugs arriving on the market. These medicines with new active substances present certain benefits, although improvements in terms of the therapeutic value are not optimal.

SummaryThe treatment of rheumatoid polyarthritis is based on the early prescribing of an effective long-term treatment such as methotrexate. However, some patients only respond partially, or not at all, to current treatments. New immunosuppressors such as Janus kinase inhibitors are therefore welcome. Tolerance studies are necessary in order to improve the way the potential risks of these medicines are identified and assessed.

SummaryIt is essential to continue active research in the field of infectious diseases, given resistance phenomena and the high variability of germs, particularly of certain types of virus. Anti-infective therapies must be carefully managed and controlled in order to curb the spread of infections in the world.

SummaryOver recent years, active research in oncology has led to the arrival on the market of numerous drugs, particularly targeted antineoplastic therapies. Administered orally, these medicines have an acceptable tolerance compared to cytotoxic chemotherapies. However, when they are dispensed, patients must be given expert and accurate advice, in order to favour compliance.
