           in Aceh Besar district

    • Authors: Yulidar Yulidar
      Pages: 1 - 5
Abstract: Malaria is an infectious disease caused by the Plasmodium through the bite of Anopheles sp.  After the tsunami in 2004, Aceh Besar and Banda Aceh suffered various environmental changes. Environmental is one of supporting factors for high number of malaria incidences. Indicators of the increasing incidence of malaria is the increase in the value of AMI (Annual Malaria Incidence). In 2004, the value of AMI in Aceh Besar district reached 11.74 0/00 and increased to 26.34 0/00 in 2015. Vector control is one of  malaria control programs. To support the program , it had been conducted a survey of Anopheles (by collecting larvae) as the potential vector. This was was a descriptive study which was conducted in 16 sampling points in Aceh Besar district, from February to October 2007. The results showed  mean value of vector breeding pH was 7.8. The aquatic vegetation in larval breeding habitat were Spirogyra sp, Limnocharis flava, Ipomoea aquatica, Ipomoea pes-caprae), and Oriza sativa. Species of Anopheles sp found were Anopheles sundaicus, Anopheles vagus, Anopheles barbirostris, Anopheles  kochi, Anopheles maculatus, and Anopheles tesselatus.

  • Improvement of students’ critical thinking skills through problem
           based learning with mind map

    • Authors: Asri Widowati, Purwanti Widhy Hastuti, Widodo Setiyo Wibowo
      Pages: 6 - 15
Abstract: This research aims to improve students' critical thinking skills through the implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) with mind map on subjects IPA 3. This research is a classroom action research, consist of stages: Planning, Implementation, Observation and Reflection. The topics are: Sexually Transmitted Diseases in the first cycle, Living Thing and Non Living Thing Component in the second cycle, and the Electric Energy Crisis in the third cycle. Instruments used are questions and observation sheets critical thinking and observation sheets of implementation of PBL model with mind map. The results showed the implementation of syntax PBL models with mind map has been good, and the average test results show an increase and most of students achieve very good in critical thinking. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of PBL models with mind map managed to improve students' critical thinking.

Abstract: Sumatran Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) is one of Indonesia's biodiversity. This animal classified in endangered species. Habitat loss, degradation, habitat fragmentation and exploitation of resources due to human activities lead to the unavailability of habitat for wildlife. Fragmentation of wildlife habitat frequently cause loss of natural habitat. The purpose of this research are (1) to describe the Sumatran Elephant habitat disturbance, (2) to determine the extent of damage caused by the Sumatran Elephant and (3) to determine the local community perception sorrounding of human-elephant conflict area on the conservation of elephants and their habitats in Lembah Seulawah, Aceh Besar. Collecting data used descriptive research with quantitative approach and proportional sampling tehnique. The study was conducted in Lembah Seulawah, Aceh Besar in May 2016. The data collected using field survey, questionnaire and deep interview. Research data showed in descriptive and percentage. Analysis of the level of damage to the quality scale, and analysis of local community of perceptions using chi-square. The results of the study are (1) Disturbance plantation community in Lembah Seulawah between 0.5% - 2%, (2) Damage to habitat in Gampong Panca and Gampong Teuladan medium category, while Gampong Lamkubu is in lightweight category and (3) the public perception was good (X2count> X2table, 35.54> 16.9) and support to cponserve of sumatran elephant and their habitat.

Abstract: This study aimed to use the learning model Problem Based Learning in increasing motivation, learning outcomes, and the relationship between motivation and student learning outcomes in the human digestive system concept. This research was conducted in May 2016 at MAN Blangpidie, Aceh Province. This type of research used experimental methods and descriptive with pretest-posttest design One Group Design. The subjects were all students of grade XI MAN Blangpidie totaling 120 students, the sample in this study is 40 students. Data analysis was performed by ARCS questionnaires motivation percentage. The results showed that an increase in student motivation t-hit = 14.61> t-table = 1.99. The conclusion was that the use of Problem Based Learning model of learning can increase student’s motivation in the human digestive systemconcept for class XI MAN Blangpidie

  • Feed palatability test on Hornbill in Taman Rusa

    • Authors: Nanda Yustina, Abdullah Abdullah, Devi Syafrianti
      Pages: 25 - 29
Abstract: Feed palatability level of animals is very important, as this will affect the growth and development of animals, and also for  the success of captivity animal itself. The aim of this study is to determine feed palatability level on hornbill in Taman Rusa. This study used descriptive method. Analysis of the data calculated using the feed palatability index selection. The results showed that the level of palatability of feed on each hornbill shows the level of palatability different. Palatability of feed on tomato hornbill 1 is a selection index with a value of 0.94, hornbill 2 papaya with a selection index value of 0.93, hornbill 3 tomatoes with Unmatched value with an index of 0.97, and a hornbill 4 tomatoes with value selection index 0.92. The conclusions of this study indicate three favorite feed hornbill showed the highest feed on tomatoes, and a hornbill shows favorite feed is papaya. Based on the research that has been done, then feeding for each hornbill better differentiated quantity between one another

  • The quality of Anadara granosa based on Cadmium metal test in the coastal
           area of Langsa in Aceh

    • Authors: Mawardi Mawardi, Tri Mustika Sarjani
      First page: 3943
Abstract: Langsa is a coastal area with vast expanse area inhabited 0f mangrove. There are lives some animal species (shells, oyster, snails and various of fish).  The objectives of present study was to evaluated accumulation of Cadmium metal on Anadara granosa in the coastal area of Langsa. A total of two sampling locations were determined using the purposive of random sampling. A total individual of Anadara granosa at every sampling location were colletcted, the organs were processed for Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The result test showed that only at Alur Dua that accumulated Cadmium metal in Anadara granosa whereas at Kuala Langsa is not detected. Anova test showed that the sampling location significantly influenceon the Cadmium accumulation in Anadara granosa (P<0,05). Kuala Langsa is not contaminated with Cadmium and the Anadara granosa should be consumed. The higher of Cadmium contaminated was recorded in Alur Dua and the Anadara granosa should not be consumed.
