  • L’esperienza della psicosi
    • Abstract: Gaetano Benedetti, Patrick Faugeras
We consider very important to remember here and now the creative approach to the psychoanalytic psychotherapy of psychosis of our master and founder Gaetano Benedetti. So, we are re-presenting this interview-dialogue by Patrick Faugeras, just published in La parola come cura. La psicoterapia della psicosi nell’incontro con Gaetano Benedetti, edited by A.S.P. (Psicoterapie, FrancoAngeli, Milan, 2006). In Benedetti’s view, the psychotherapic relationship shows how inner and external reality are confused in the psychotic world, where symbiosis and splitting empower each other. The splitting functioning as a defence (splitting between Ego and Super-ego, between Ego and Es, between subject and object, between the symbiotic Self and the separated Self ) is one of the core early concepts in Benedetti’s theory, and will bring him to the concepts of “Symbiotic Self” and "Separated Self". If the psychotic psychopathology limits and divides, a patient-centered psychotherapy gathers and enlarges: so, the Author can introduce his new concept of "progressive psychopathology". We can recognize the role of transference and counter-transference, interpretation and structural change in the psychotherapy with psychotic patients in different forms and by different technical means if compared with the neurotic patients’standard analysis. This psychoanalytic psychoterapeutical model let us organize our inner experience with the patient in order to make it acceptable to ourselves and to other clinicians, so transforming an apparently impossibile and confusing meeting of two so different minds into a human existential and meaningfull encounter.

  • Straniero-Familare. L’ovvietà del pregiudizio
    • Abstract: Silvia Amati Sas
Stranger/familiar. The obviousness of prejudice Many of the Author’s works and papers concern the concept of "trans-subjective" in psychoanalysis. She has also an extraordinary experience of psychotherapies with victims of illiberal politic systems, or tortures or persecuted groups. In this paper, she addresses the problem of "The Stranger" and its connected ideological, juridical, and political foundations. These topics are seen as "the new discontents of civilization" (Kaës) and request a new paradigm for psychoanalysis (Puget). That’s is the problems of "bindingness" or bounds, alliances and unconscious pacts involved unto the subject’s unavoidable dependending and participating within the family group she/he belongs to with its prejudices. The Author speculates that the origin of the prejudice is the "anxiety of the eighth month" or "stranger’s anxiety", seminal observable sketch of the feeling of belonging to the family group related to someone "outside" it, that is the psychic seed of somewhat unknown and new.

  • Poetry and poetry reasoning: A path to the expression and access of the
           Inter world
    • Abstract: Carla Weber
The article focuses on the generative and restructuring function of the psychotherapeutic process. The empirical research that supports the contribution stems from the need to break the cage of a rigid and repetitive metapsychic organization that characterizes the psychotherapeutic relationship itself. The attention in the method is turned to the poietic capacity of every human subject, which is understood as ability to act (poiein) in absence and to give an original form to their own feelings. It is for the psychotherapist to know how to wait and recognize the poiesis in action, in the gesture and in the embodied word of the patient and to attend it to generate tolerability, to create differences and new transitions of meaning. The theoretical insights to support this perspective concern the contributions of psychoanalysts who have paid particular attention to creativity and to the potential of the tacit and not removed unconscious.

  • An historical-bibliografic excursus of studies on "mafia" in Clinical
    • Abstract: Luciana Calvarese, Dominga Gullì, Girolamo Lo Verso
As this article highlights, the clinical-psychological studies on the Mafia, carried out by the team of researchers from the University of Palermo coordinated by prof. Lo Verso, started in 1994 with the study of the Vitale case (Lo Verso, 1995) and began from the vision of the Mafia phenomenon as the subject of studies and researches with both ethic and scientific motivations, all carried out with an inter-disciplinary perspective that connect different points of view: legal and psychodynamic-group analytic. The article says: "The group analytic model (Lo Verso, 1989, 1994; Giannone, Lo Verso, 1996; Fiore, 1997; Lo Verso, Di Blasi, 2012) represents the key to the interpretation of the mental processes characterising the mafia psyche. That’s because the psychodinamic analyses found out that the Mafia is an ethnic system, a way to be a family, an organization, an identity integrated in the local area, whose psychic-anthropological origin mixes cultural, community, family, individual factors. The mafia psychism turns out to be the organizing system of relations between the individual and the reality, that are dogmatic and fundamentalist" (Lo Verso, 1998), which means it is structured on strict emotional basis; even it can be considered as "unconscious pattern that is involved in several aspects of the daily life". In the study of psychological details that characterize the mafia psychism the fundamentalism has a central role. The psychic birth is a relational process of identification of the newborn with his family, the anthropological and biological reality where he grows up. Both the outside world and the inner word contribute to organize the unconscious along with the experience (Lo Verso, Di Blasi, 2012). The research and the clinic support the hypothesis that the mafia family is responsible for the saturation function of the evolutionary process of the biologi cal family and for the conditioning of evolution process due to its psychic fundamentalism that doesn’t recognize and encourage any type of subjectivity and independence thought: It’s like the individual psyche was colonized by the familiar psyche, that is transgenerational and exended to include the Mafia family in which the individual identifies himself at all. Giovanni Falcone gave an important contribute to psychological-clinical studies of the Mafia. He came up with a very important research method focused on the value of relation and fed by the need of truly understand the phenomenon in order to battle it. This method is based on the dialogue among people considered in their own peculiarity and complexity, with a sort of clinical attitude. The psychology of ex-mafia criminal becominig collaborators with justice confirms what was hypothesized on the Mafia family and identity: "The main data emerging from the deposition of the collaborators is the distinction they make between the ideal aspects of Cosa Nostra, that are the foundations of theis sense of belonging to the organization, and the real aspects, as the distortion of ‘the code of honor’, in which they no loger identifie themselves". In the 90’s and 2000’s the studies expanded to groups of judges, to the analysis of psychiatric evaluations and depositions, to the Health Service work conducted expecially with children of mafia bosses, giving the contribute to the study of the mafia psyche as the central aim of the research and clinical fields and enphasizing the mafia phenomenon as real psychic organizer. Specific setting and psychoterapic tecniques will born in order to answer to question: Whats does it means to the therapist helping a patient to reveal his own story characterized by murders, betrayals, infant deaths' How does it feel being watched' (Giunta, Lo Verso, 2011). In Mafia in Psychotherapy (Lo Verso, 2013) the real clinical cases demonstrate that the Mafia is a psychopathology because it is responsible for the depersonalisation, anxiety, paranoia, self-esteem breakups, impossibiliy of socio-economic and politic development.

  • La psicoanalisi nell’ambito delle neuroscienze: l’importanza
           della relazione
    • Abstract: Maria Maddalena Viola
In this article, the Author proposes to use neuroscience as a theoretical and epistemological frame aimed at offering a new perspective within the psychoanalytic theory. Specifically, the author uses the neuroscientific assumption of a structurally relational mind, and therefore strongly influenced by the relationship with the external environment, as a vertex through which to highlight the importance of the interpretation of interpersonal dynamics typical of psychotherapeutic process, emphasizing likewise, through the use of some clinical vignettes, the centrality that today covers attachment theory in directly influencing the maturational processes of brain structures. This perspective makes it possible to review concepts such as repression, transfert, denial, in the light of neuroscientific discoveries on implicit memories; moreover, it makes possible to re-read the psychoanalytic process as an experience of emotional and relational learning able to favor changes in the microcomponents of the patient’s cerebral system, consequently determining changes in the organization of emotional patterns and in the prevailing states of mind, creating new memories of the self and of the self in the relationship with the others.

  • Mr Scribble said "Words are not enough!". The Techel’s Dynamic
           Transformative Scribble
    • Abstract: Mauro Ambrosini
This article presents the technique of Dynamic Transformative Scribble and its possible applications in clinical work. Ogden argues that a person begins an analysis because he has lost the ability to dream, the scribble is the technical response that allows the patient to regain possession of this ability. Through sensory experience that the DT Scribble allows, you can recover the possibility of dreaming and create together (patient and therapist) new ways of feeling and "worlds" to explore in order to achieve a more stable and structured identity.

  • The "Prison" Archipekago
    • Abstract: Giovanna Tatti
Starting from the assumption that the setting is absolutely influenced and structured by the representations that the institution has of clinical work and from those that the clinician has of the institution where he operates, with this paper we intend to reflect on the defensive dynamics, splitting above all, that cross and characterize a detention centre. Such in a place will be essential to maintain an abstinent and neutral position and a psychoanalytically oriented thought that does not colluded with these dynamics. Difficulties are many, from the structuring of the setting, where everything is created from scratch, including the request: Customer and user do not coincide; part of the Clinician work consist in understanding if and how, the User Can become a Patient. When this happens, a valuable space for self-understanding is created and they can try to understand how they have come to commit crimes which sometimes are of great seriousness. The "restructuring" of the personality becomes a fundamental element of the treatment, where the entry in prison produces or induces a process of de-structuring. A brief Clinical History will be expose, to illustrate the role of trauma and victimization and the necessary work on the "first victim" in order to avoid further victimization.
