  • Mappare la vulnerabilità sociale e la resilienza di un territorio
    • Abstract: Oscar Luigi Azzimonti, Matteo Colleoni, Mattia De Amicis, Ivan Frigerio
This paper focuses on social vulnerability and resilience in the context of seismic risk governance. In the first part, we introduce the concepts of risk governance and social vulnerability. Subsequently, we present the results of a research on social vulnerability, resilience and seismic risk in Lombardy. The study, applied to the municipalities of Lombardy, consists in mapping relevant socio-territorial features and in combining them with seismic hazard. The aim of the research is to provide the actors of risk governance with innovative transdisciplinary information. The maps are considered as an insightful means of communication, which, potentially, may render the process of risk governance more aware of socioterritorial features and therefore more equitable.

  • Il rischio alimentare in prima pagina
    • Abstract: Andrea Rubin
In 1981, Allan Mazur formulated his famous hypothesis: there is a direct relation between media coverage and public reaction against technological issues. Mazur’s hypothesis is exclusively and simply quantitative: the more the media cover a technoscientific issue, the more the public is brought to take a position against them. Few contributions that have tested Mazur’s hypothesis, directly or indirectly, have found a rather weak relationship between media exposure and public opinion. In this paper, I conducted an analysis on media coverage of food in Italy in the period 2010-2016. I calculated a risk index in the corpus of newspaper articles. This measure is used to compare it with longitudinal public opinion surveys to test this presumed "direct effect" of media.

  • Disastri e dispersione delle comunità. Un caso marchigiano
    • Abstract: Alfredo Mela, Camilla Falchetti
The article focuses on the role of the environment in community recovery processes after a natural disaster, and therefore on the impact of the transformations in the phase following the first emergency. What are the effects, sometimes irreversible, that the earthquake produces on the social relations within the communities, on the relations between them with wider social systems and the environment' To what extent can the emergency management and the postemergence phase accentuate the impact of seismic events' What is the potential role of local and supra-local networks in producing responses to the risks of spatial fragmentation of the population and declining of the affected areas' After a brief introduction, the first part of the text is dedicated to a theoretical explanation of the terms of the problem of community recovery, with particular regard to environmental dimensions and reference to the contributions of international literature. In the second part we will try to answer the above questions starting from a case study, in which the authors were directly involved in socio-psychological support to a community of the other Macerata, hit by the Central Italy’s earthquakes in 2016.

  • Edilizia pubblica post-sisma: un caso paradigmatico di governo del
           territorio
    • Abstract: Davide Olori, Marta Menghi
This paper analyzes the social housing strategies implemented after the 2016 and 2017 earthquakes that struck the central Italian Apennines. The analysis of the legislation that determines the effects of the measures implemented shows how the choices made by the institutions in charge have favored the processes of displacement and simultaneously generated opportunities for the inactive real estate market. Finally, the case of Tolentino is considered as paradigmatic respect to the housing parabola of vulnerable groups affected by the socio-natural disaster.

  • Diffusione tecnologica e ICT: modelli ed applicazioni
    • Abstract: Silvio Di Fabio
The faster pace of technological change is increasing the interest in studying the mechanisms of new products diffusion. Many ICT technologies have peculiar features and adoption behaviours, compared to typical "stand alone" products. Therefore, it is important to carry out an overview of diffusion models to understand ways of extending existing models to explain the most complex technologies. This paper covers the state of the art of the literature on the diffusion of innovations. In particular, the work focuses on fundamental concepts of technological diffusion, and on the main models that have characterized this literature. The review uses numerical and graphical examples to better explain the fundamental issues of diffusion, because ICT technologies are now an integral part of the daily life of people, societies and economies.

  • Economia circolare. Critica di un paradigma emergente nella policy
           ambientale dell’UE
    • Abstract: Claudio Marciano
Circular Economy is a new driver concept in EU policy arena. It entails in the management of local public services such as waste, water, energy and transport, to stimulate the re-use, repair and recycling of existing materials and products, and to promote new growth and job opportunities. Circularity concerns also the cultural aspects, in particular, the adoption of social practices inspired by "informationalism" (Aneesh, 2012) such as sharing, peer to peer, copyleft in order to avoid any kind of waste. The paper discusses the contradictions between the social and political implication of a circular economy and the hegemony of the neoliberalism approach in the EU.

  • Contextualising urban sustainability policies: The role of territorial
           social capital
    • Abstract: Marco Castrignanò, Alessandra Landi
The paper proposes a theoretical and methodological contribution on the role of the neighbourhood in contextualising sustainability policies and in guiding environ-mental governance at the urban level. In a perspective that sees compact urban system as a body and its communities as cells, the work focuses on the neighborhood in an ecological key, assuming it as a fundamental analytical unit to contextualise the socio-environmental innovation, both in terms of policies and bottom-up practices. Analyzing social and spatial inequalities that specifically characterize the urban neighborhoods and civic resources that represent catalysts of socio-environmental innovation, we introduce the theme of territorial social capital. A methodological path for its measurement is outlined, through a collection of information at the micro level, integrating classical research techniques with an approach known as "Ecometrics". Through these tools, it is possible to pay due attention to the social and spatial morphology of neighborhoods: different territorial social capitals become a key element for the planning and implementation of urban policies and practices of sustainable transition.

  • Coworking, nuove pratiche di innovazione sociale in ambiente urbano
    • Abstract: Bruna Felici, Marina Penna
The article illustrates the results of two surveys on different kinds of coworking and their dissemination in Italy, which were carried out in the years 2017 and 2018. Coworking is part of those social innovation practices that impact on a community as a whole, since while creating new work opportunities or producing new goods and services, it also has beneficial effects in other sectors such as education, welfare and social inclusion. A close relationship has been observed between the development of coworking practices and city change, which requires a description of the urban context where these practices set in, may it be the suburbs or the city centre, or the multi shaped places originated from the post-metropolitan development of Italy. Exploratory researches focused the potential of coworking, as a new model of work organization, and also enabled the investigation of its ways of creating value in relational and social contexts, in personal empowerment processes, and in the new forms of connection within the local communities where it sets in.

  • Grey networks for green: il potenziale delle reti per la terza età in
           risposta alle sfide ambientali
    • Abstract: Valentino Piana, Tony Urbani
This research work investigates the degree of environmental awareness of networks organised for – and by – older Italians, as well as the actions and the potential projects in response to environmental challenges. Thanks to a series of semi-structured interviews addressed to leaders of organizations for the elderly, (professional associations, trade unions, social promotion associations, voluntary associations), with a cumulative membership of more than 6 million, the investigation analyses the lexical knowledge of environmental literature (climate change, ecological footprint, climate mitigation, etc.); the network structure (e.g. if there are roles or delegates to environmental policies); the actions and projects undertaken (energy efficiency, smart mobility, sustainable lifestyles and consumption, etc.). The research takes into consideration the projects carried out by the individual networks of the elderly to provide an overall evaluation of the networks in response to environmental challenges. The result is a cognitive-empirical picture of the role of Italian "Grey Networks" in responses to environmental problems and in fostering dialogue with other social networks on these issues. In the light of the data analysed, the research team takes the responsibility of suggesting strategies and projects that could be used by the networks at macro, meso and local levels.

  • Il fenomeno del vandalismo. Dal "vandalismo tradizionale" al "vandalismo
           in doppio petto"
    • Abstract: Marco Giovagnoli
The theme of vandalism is undoubtedly of great breadth and complexity and is usually focused on the question of illegality, crime and their prevention. The areas of action of vandalism range from the micro dimension to the large scale, from the deliberate gesture to the absolute lack of meaning, from the economic motivations to the claims or to the artistic gesture. Next to this review of "traditional" vandal-ism we wanted to place a "double-breasted vandalism", drawing inspiration from the pioneering reflections of Antonio Cederna, which is not rooted in deprivation or degraded socio-territorial context but in privileged and socially guaranteed areas which have as the ultimate goal profit, self-assertion, achievement of criminal goals, when not professional self-referentiality. It is a vandalism that often, far from provoking social disapproval, acquires merit as a "modernizing gesture" and development. Consequence of this vandalism is the sack that has occurred and is still under way in large portions of our country’s territory.
