  • Neurobiological correlates of interpersonal relationships and disease risk
           factors
    • Abstract: Maria Cristina Verrocchio, Daniela Marchetti, Piero Porcelli
Early relationships have a modeling effect on multiple aspects of mental and somatic health. This paper aims at examining evidence of the associations between aversive childhood relationships and disease risk factors in adulthood from experimental, observational, and epidemiologic studies. Particular attention has been paid to the links with epigenetic modifications (DNA methylation and telomere length). Results from literature shows that early relations have detrimental long-life effects on the individual physical health and that it was likely due to biological reprogramming through epigenetic mechanisms and their interactions with the nervous and immune systems.

  • Early traumatic events and cardiovascular risk: A review.
    • Abstract: Federica Galli, Elena Maria Vegni, Stefano Carugo
The early psychological trauma has traditionally been associated to psychopathological diseases even though it has been demonstrated how its role is a risk factor for diseases that are commonly named as "organic". This paper analyzes the role of early traumatic events and the development of cardiovascular diseases in adulthood through a narrative review of recent scientific literature on the subject. The analyzed contributions show a significant role of early traumatic events in preparing the adult to the occurrence of cardiovascular events. The possible mechanisms outline potential areas of intervention that open to the fundamental role of clinical psychology in terms of therapeutic and preventive interventions to be realized in the area of cardiovascular problems.

  • Traumatic memories and the body: A study on child maltreatment,
           interoceptive aware-ness, and somatic symptoms
    • Abstract: Luana La Marca, Andrea Scalabrini, Clara Mucci, Adriano Schimmenti
Traumatic memories and the body: A study on child maltreatment, interoceptive aware-ness, and somatic symptoms. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship among child maltreatment, alterations in interoceptive awareness, and somatic symptoms. 370 adult participants (54% females) completed a battery of self-report measures for the assessment of childhood trauma, interoceptive awareness, and somatic symptoms. Significant associations were observed between the investigated variables. A cluster analysis identified three clusters of participants who reported different types and number of childhood traumatic experiences. The cluster including the participants who were exposed to multiple childhood adversities showed higher impairments in interoceptive awareness and higher levels of somatic symptoms. Traumatic experiences in the attachment relationships can have a negative and lasting impact on interoceptive awareness and psychosomatic inte-gration.

  • Psychological factors delaying requests for help in domestic violence: The
           role of family dynamics.
    • Abstract: Ugo Pace, Marco Cacioppo, Carla Zappulla, Giulio D’Urso, Vincenzo Caretti
Psychological factors delaying requests for help in domestic violence: The role of family dynamics. Family and couple dynamics, as well as individual variables, such as separation anxiety - typical of the people who establish a dependency on the desired person - can influence violent relationships, so much to increase, in the victims, the time between the violence and the request for help. The goal of this survey concerned the examination of the possible factors involved in delay in asking for help, in a group of 40 abused women who turned to specialized centers of the Italian territory. Participants were administered the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales, for the evaluation of the variables related to the couple bond, and the Addictive Behavior Questionnaire, to evaluate the variables ascribable to the behavior of dependence on the partner. In addition, information about the episodes of violence were collected. The results from the multiple regression model showed a significant effect of anxiety from separation, family entanglement and family rigidity in increasing the time between the first violence and the request for help. The contribution, in addition to expanding the literature on domestic violence, suggests the need to create targeted strategies of intervention based on integrated models, as well as expanding the field of research into risk and protection factors related to the various forms of harassment.

  • Skin color discrimination among primary school children
    • Abstract: Margherita Cardellini1
Several studies highlight that dark-skinned children are often victims of discrimination from adults and society, but few studies specifically focus on skin color discrimination among children. In this paper, some results of a research project are reported with the aim of investigating whether and how primary school children talk about skin colors, picking up any stereotypes or prejudices. Using focus group as methodology to stimulate the group dimension and interaction, several stories about skin color discrimination within their class-room or school have emerged. Based on the results, the worth of adopting an intercultural education perspective able to include an antiracist objective has been suggested, in the belief that diversity and plurality could really become elements of potential enrichment for humanity, starting from children.

    • Abstract: Maria Gloria Gleijeses, Annamaria Scapicchio
The paper presents clinical a group clinical experience with adoptive parents of children victims of serious Adverse Childhood Experiences.
