      Abstract: Walaupun Malaysia telah meningkatkan usaha dalam bidang Sains dan Teknologi, terdapat penurunan dalam jumlah murid yang minat atau cemerlang dalam mata pelajaran tersebut. Murid-murid ini menghadapi kesukaran dalam menghayati konsep-konsep saintifik.Salah satu punca kesukaran berpunca daripada keberkaitan intra kandungan buku teks mata pelajaran Sains itu sendiri. Walau bagaimanapun, tumpuan dalam aspek keberkaitan kandungan adalah kurang. Analisis dokumen telah dilaksanakan melalui satu kajian kes terhadap penjelasan beberapa konsep sains dalam buku teks kebangsaan.Jenis buku teks digunakan dalam cerapan data ialah buku-buku teks Sains sekolah rendah kebangsaan untuk Tahun 4, 5 dan 6. Dalam kajian mengenai komunikasi konsep-konsep sains ini, mudah-susah seseorang murid memahami sesuatu konsep dan kesinambungan konsep tersebut dicerap dan dianalisis. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa beberapa konsep saintifik yang terkandung dalam buku teks Sains telah dipersembahkan pada tahap yang tidak membolehkan murid mengetahui konsep tersebut dengan baik. Wujud ketidaksinambungan konsep-konsep saintifik dalam buku-buku teks Sains tersebut. Penemuan ini dibincangkan dan kesimpulannya diberikan dalam artikel ini.Kata kunci: Maklumat sainstifik, buku teks, mata pelajaran Sains, sekolah rendah, kajian kes Despite Malaysia's effort in the field of science and technology, there is decrease in the number of students interested or excelling in the subject of science. Some students simply have difficulty in grasping certain scientific concepts. A cause of this is the content intra-connectivity of the science textbooks, but there is limited focus on content connectivity.Document analysis was carried out in acase study about selected science concepts in national science textbooks. The types of textbooks examined in this case study were the national schooling Science textbooks for Primary 4, 5 and 6. A student’s easeness to comprehend a sciencific concept and the continuity of specific science concepts were analysed. Findings of this study show certain science concept presented in the Science textbooks are at an unsatisfactory level leaving students hanging vis-a-vis the depth of understanding of the science concept. In addition, the study also showed certain a discontinuity of science concepts in those Science textbooks. Discussions and conclusion of these findings are presented in this article.Keywords: Sciencetific information, textbook, Science subject, primary school, case study

  • Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Melalui Aplikasi Whatsapp dan Telegram di
           Universiti Swasta (Teaching and Learning Through WhatsApp and Telegram
           Application at a Private University)

      Abstract: Kaedah pembelajaran teradun semakin meluas dilaksanakan di Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi (IPT) sama ada dirujuk sebagai Sistem Pengurusan Pembelajaran (LMS), e-pembelajaran atau m-pembelajaran. Objektif kajian ini adalah untuk meneroka potensi WhatsApp dan Telegram dalam pembelajaran (m-pembelajaran) sebagai pelengkap kepada pengajaran bersemuka dan penggunaan portal e-pembelajaran. Analisis data berdasarkan maklum balas daripada 68 pelajar di Fakulti Pendidikan dan Sains Sosial, Universiti Selangor yang diperoleh melalui borang soal-selidik dan maklumat yang dimuatnaik diWhatsApp dan Telegram. Penjelasan dan edaran borang soal-selidik kepada pelajar dibuat pada minggu terakhir semester dan pelajar diberi tempoh 1 jam untuk melengkapkan soal-selidik. Kajian ini menunjukkan sebahagian besar daripada responden telah menggunakan telefon pintar sejak empat tahun lalu (71%), membayar kurang daripada RM100 sebulan (81%) dan memilih pelan prabayar (85%). Aplikasi popular ialah WhatsApp (n=60, 88.2%), Youtube (n=49, 72.1%), Facebook (n=47, 69.1%), Instagram (n=43, 63.2%), dan Google+ (n=36, 52.9%). Para pelajar didapati kurang didedahkan dengan m-pembelajaran, tidak bersedia serta kurang berpuashati dengan capaian Internet, ketiadaan garis-panduan, dan kaedah penilaian. Pelajar sarjana muda program kejuruteraan, sains komputer & teknologi maklumat dan bioteknologi lebih aktif terlibat dalam perbincangan dan perkongsian maklumat berbanding pendidikan.Sebahagian besar pelajar bersetuju m-pembelajaran membantu mereka untuk lebih memahami hasil pembelajaran, meningkatkan imej universiti, daya saing dan kebolehpasaran graduan.Kata-kunci: m-pembelajaran, telefon pintar, WhatsApp dan Telegram There are many Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL’s) in Malaysia adopted blended learning either it was referred as learning management system (LMS), e-learning or m-learning. The objective of this study is to explore the potential of developing teaching and learning methods (T&L) using WhatsApp and Telegram application as a complement to conventional face-to-face teaching and the useof E-Learning Portal. This study was carried out among 68 undergraduate students at the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences, University of Selangor. Data were obtained from the questionnaire and students’ feedback and their work during each lesson of WhatsApp and Telegram learning sessions. Results of this study showed that most of the students (71%) have been using the smartphone for the past four years, 81% paid less than RM100 a month for their bill, and 85% were on a prepaid plan. The most popular application that they used daily were WhatsApp (n=60, 88.2%), YouTube (n=49, 72.1%), Facebook (n=47, 69.1%), Instagram (n=43, 63.2%), and Google+ (n=36, 52.9%). Further analysis discovered that the students were moderately exposed to e-learning and not ready to accept it as their learning method, less satisfied with internet facilities, the guidelines and assessment on e-learning but highly agreed that e-learning has helped them raise their awareness and insights in achieving course learning outcomes (CLO’s). Students from other faculties are more actively involved in discussion and sharing information as compared to diploma as well as first degree students of the targeted faculty. Overall, most of the students believed that e-learning may further heighten the university’s image to the stakeholder, community as well as industries, and thus elevating the graduates employability.  Keywords : m-learning, smartphone, WhatsApp and Telegram applications

  • EFL Learners’ Speaking Development: Asking Referential Questions
           (Pembangunan Pertuturan Pelajar EFL: Pertanyaan Soalan Rujukan)

      Abstract: With the growing interest in interaction in EFL classes, referential questions play an important role in this regard. This study, a quasi-experimental pretest and posttest design, aims at investigating the effect of asking referential questions on the oral production of a group of lower intermediate male students (N = 16) who were learning English in Iran. The students’ performance in pretest and posttest was audio-recorded, and then by listening to the students’ voice by the experimental group teacher, the number of words produced by every student in pretest and posttest was counted. The time during which the students talked about the topics before and after asking referential questions was also calculated in minutes. The results reveal that: (i) asking referential questions increased talk time and number of words produced by the learners and therefore improved their speaking ability, and (ii) the students in experimental group produced more words and talked longer than the students in control group.  In conclusion, the finding of this study suggests that particular types of questions, called referential questions, increase learners’ oral proficiency in classroom.Keywords: Question, referential question, interaction, wait-time Dengan minat yang semakin meningkat dalam interaksi di dalam kelas English Foreingn Language (EFL), soalan rujukan memainkan peranan penting dalam hal ini. Kajian ini berbentuk kuasi eksperimen ujian dan ujian pasca ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti kesan pertanyaan soalan rujukan antara  kumpulan pelajar lelaki menengah rendah (N = 16) yang belajar bahasa Inggeris di Iran. Prestasi pelajar dalam ujian pra dan ujian pasca dikaji dengan menggunakan rakaman audio. Guru akan membuat eksperimen di mana di mana bilangan kata yang dihasilkan oleh setiap pelajar dalam ujian pra dan ujian pasca dikira. Masa di mana pelajar bercakap mengenai topik sebelum dan selepas guru bertanya soalan juga dikira dalam beberapa minit. Hasil  kajian mendapati (i) pelajar meminta soalan-soalan rujukan untuk meningkatkan masa bercakap dan bilangan kata yang dihasilkan oleh pelajar dan secara langsung meningkatkan keupayaan bercakap mereka, dan (ii) pelajar dalam kumpulan eksperimen menghasilkan lebih banyak perkataan dan bercakap lebih lama daripada pelajar dalam kumpulan kawalan. Kesimpulannya, penemuan kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa jenis soalan tertentu yang dipanggil soalan rujukan dapat meningkatkan kemahiran lisan pelajar di dalam bilik darjah.Kata kunci: Soalan, soalan rujukan, interaksi, masa menunggu

  • Kesediaan Graduan Baharu Mendanai Pengoperasian Universiti (Graduands’
           Willingness to Contribute to Alma Mater Operating Fund)

      Abstract: Graduan merupakan imej penting kepada sesebuah universiti. Penyediaan kepada pelajar dengan kualiti akademik dan infrastruktur sokongan yang baik merupakan antara indikator penting pihak universiti untuk merealisasikan pembentukan imej graduan yang berkualiti. Hasilnya, imej ini mewujudkan satu bentuk hubungan dua hala jangka panjang dalam pelbagai aspek melibatkan sumbangan semula dalam bentuk kewangan dan bukan kewangan.  Memandangkan sumbangan kewangan dari graduan kepada universiti telah popular dalam kalangan universiti tersohor di dunia, maka kajian ini bertujuan menganalisis kesediaan untuk memberi sumbangan kewangan kepada pihak universiti terutama dalam kalangan graduan baharu setelah memperoleh pekerjaan. Bagi mencapai tujuan tersebut, instrumen borang soal selidik yang melibatkan 431 orang graduan baharu  sebuah universiti awam di Perak yang berkonvokesyen pada tahun 2015 telah dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan analisis regresi logistik. Kajian ini mengkaji lima faktor penting berkaitan universiti iaitu kemudahan, aktiviti pelajar, kualiti akademik, hasil pengajian, pengurusan universiti, dan dua pemboleh ubah kawalan iaitu jantina dan kategori pembiayaan semasa pengajian. Hasil analisis kajian menunjukkan tahap kesediaan graduan untuk menyumbang agak rendah. Kebanyakan pemboleh ubah kajian didapati tidak signifikan dengan pemboleh ubah kualiti akademik sahaja mempengaruhi secara positif, manakala pemboleh ubah kategori pembiayaan semasa pengajian dan kemudahan pula mempengaruhi secara negatif. Pengaruh biaya pengajian khususnya menunjukkan komitmen graduan untuk membayar semula hutang lebih diutamakan berbanding memberi sumbangan kepada pihak universiti. Kesimpulan penting daripada kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa tahap kesediaan graduan untuk memberikan sumbangan kewangan kepada pihak universiti adalah masih lemah. Untuk merealisasikan konsep sumbangan graduan kepada pihak universiti, faktor kualiti akademik semata-mata tidak mampu mempengaruhi hubungan kesediaan tersebut. Terdapat pelbagai strategi perlu dirancang oleh pihak universiti bagi melahirkan graduan yang bersedia untuk memberi sumbangan semula seperti sifat kepunyaan, kecintaaan kepada universiti dan sebagainya.Kata Kunci: Kesediaan, graduan baharu, universiti, filantropi, logistik. Graduands are the key image of a university. The preparation for students with the quality of academic and good infrastructure support are among the essential indicator of a university to establish the image production of quality graduands.  As a result, this image creates a form of a long term two-way relationship in many aspects pertaining the recontribution in the form of financial and non-financial. Due to the acknowledgement of financial contribution from graduands to the university among reputable universities in the world, this study aims to analyse the willingness of giving financial contribution to the university especially among the newly graduated graduands after obtaining a job. To achieve this objective, a questionnaire instrument involving 431 new graduands of a public university in Perak who undergone a convocation in 2015 was analyzed using the logistic regression analysis. This study examines five important factors related to the university namely the facility, student activities, academic quality, study outcome and university management with two controlled variables which are gender and the category of academic fund during study. The finding of analysis indicates the willingness of graduands to contribute is relatively low. Most of the variables in study are found to be not significant with only the variable of academic quality is found to influence positively, whereas the variable of fund category during study and facility are found to influence negatively.   The influence of study fund demonstrates the commitment of graduands to repay the loan is prioritized compared to contribute to the university. An important conclusion from this study reveals that the level of graduand willingness to financially contribute to the university is still low. To realize the concept of graduand contribution to the university, the academic quality factor per se is not able to influence the relationship of the willingness. There are multiple strategies to be planned by the university to produce willing full graduands to recontribute such as the feeling of belonging, the love to the university and others.   • Trait-Trait Personaliti Pembuli, Mangsa Buli dan Pembuli-Mangsa Dalam
           Kalangan Pelajar Sekolah Menengah: Model Lima Faktor (Personality Traits
           of Bullies, Victims and Bully-Victims Amongst Secondary School Students:
           Big Five Traits of Personality Model)

      Abstract: Kajian ini adalah untuk melihat perbezaan trait-trait personaliti dalam kalangan pelajar seramai 328 orang pelajar tingkatan empat yang melibatkan sepuluh buah sekolah menengah di Negeri Sembilan. Kajian berbentuk kuantitatif dengan menggunakan kaedah tinjauan bagi mengutip data. Terdapat lima domain dalam trait-trait personaliti yang dicadangkan oleh Model Lima Faktor Goldberg iaitu domain Kesedaran, Penerimaan, Kestabilan Emosi, Ekstraversi dan Keterbukaan. Analisis deskriptif min menunjukkan domain Kesedaran, Kestabilan Emosi, Ekstraversi dan Keterbukaan antara pembuli, mangsa buli dan pembuli-mangsa adalah sederhana. Manakala, domain Penerimaan adalah tinggi. Analisis ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara pembuli, mangsa buli dan  pembuli-mangsa dalam dua domain Kestabilan Emosi dan Kesedaran. Program-program intervensi yang sesuai, efektif dan menjurus kepada trait-trait personaliti pelajar yang terlibat dengan buli dapat dirancang dan dilaksanakan oleh pihak-pihak berkepentingan dalam pendidikan dalam menangani buli pelajar di sekolah. Kata Kunci: Pembuli, mangsa buli, pembuli-mangsa, Model Lima Faktor This study aims at looking into the difference of traits of personality among 328 form four students of ten secondary school students in Negeri Sembilan. Quantitative survey was used to collect data. Five domains of Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Emotional Stability, Extraversion and Openness as suggested by Goldberg Big Five Traits of Personality Model were used in this study. Analysis of mean showed a moderate score on Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability and Openness between the bullies, the victims and the bully-victims. Whilst higher score is found on Agreeableness.  Analysis of ANOVA showed significantly difference on Emotional Stability, Conscientiousness dan Extraversion between the bullies, the victims and the bully-victims. Appropriate, effective and focused intervention programmes on the traits of personality of the involved students can be planned and implemented by education officials at reducing bullying in schools.Keywords: Bullies, victims, bully-victims, Big Five Traits of Personality Model

  • Resources Availability in Basic Schools in Kwara State of Nigeria:

      Abstract: Teachers and textbooks are vital human and instructional resources, which administrators of educational institutions require for successful implementation of their educational programmes. This study investigated availability and adequacy of these resources and their implications on instructional supervision. Two research questions were answered and two hypotheses were tested in the study. Population for the study was basic school teachers in the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State, Nigeria. Research instrument tagged “Resource Availability Questionnaire” (RAQ) was administered to a sample of 300 teachers from 30 basic schools, which were selected using purposive and random sampling techniques. Results of data analyses showed that teachers and textbooks were not adequate, that there was no significant difference between urban and rural schools in supply of textbooks, and that there was a significant difference between urban and rural schools in supply of teachers. It was recommended that instructional supervisors should ensure proper coordination and foster cooperation among parents, community members and other stakeholders so that they could assist the Government in supply of teachers and textbooks to basic schools in the State.Keywords: Resource availability, basic schools, instructional supervision, human resources, instructional resources, specialist teachers. Guru dan buku teks adalah sumber manusia dan pengajaran yang penting, bersama pentadbir institusi pendidikan dalam mencapai kejayaan pelaksanaan program pendidikan. Kajian ini untuk mengkaji penyediaan dan kecukupan sumber-sumber ini dan implikasinya terhadap penyeliaan pengajaran instruksional. Dua soalan kajian telah dijawab dan dua hipotesis telah diuji dalam kajian ini. Populasi kajian ini adalah guru sekolah dasar di 16 buah kerajaan tempatan di negeri Kwara, Nigeria. Instrumen yang digunakan ialah “Resource Availability Questionnaire” (RAQ) yang telah ditadbirkan terhadap 300 orang guru daripada 30 buah sekolah dasar yang dipilih secara rawak bertujuan dan teknik pensampelan rawak. Data kajian menunjukkan bahawa guru dan buku teks tidak mencukupi, tidak ada perbezaan yang signifikan antara sekolah-sekolah bandar dan luar bandar dalam pembekalan buku teks, terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara sekolah-sekolah bandar dan luar bandar dalam pembekalan guru. Adalah disyorkan bahawa penyelia pengajaran instruksional perlu memastikan koordinasi dan kerjasama yang menggalakkan dalam kalangan ibu bapa, ahli komuniti dan pihak berkepentingan lain supaya mereka dapat membantu kerajaan tempatan dalam membekalkan guru dan buku teks ke sekolah-sekolah dasar di peringkat negeri.Kata kunci: Penyediaan sumber, sekolah dasar, penyeliaan pengajaran instruksional, sumber manusia, sumber pengajaran, guru pakar.

  • Structured Instructional Process And Performance of Junior Secondary
           School 2 Students in Mathematics (Proses Pengajaran Berstruktur dan
           Prestasi Pelajar Sekolah Menengah Rendah 2 dalam Matematik)

      Abstract: This study examined the effectiveness and efficiency of using structured instructional process in teaching and learning substitution. The structured instructional process (object based card games) was compared with convention teaching methods in promoting achievement outcomes. A total of 120 Junior Secondary Schools II students (JSS2) drawn from three schools in three educational zones of Lagos state, Nigeria and  three Mathematics teachers participated in this study. A mixed method of quantitative and qualitative was used with Analysis of Co-variance to analyse the data. Three research questions guided the study. The study was a pre and post test equivalent control group design. The results of the study showed that the treatments (Structured Instructional Object Based Games (SIOBG)) improved the subjects in grades and gained in knowledge over and above control group, that were exposed to the conventional methods. Gender and academic ability were not found to be significantly interacting with treatment.Keywords:  Structured instructional, object based games, learner’s needs model and forms of technology of instruction, learning instruction, sex and ability Kajian ini adalah untuk mengkaji keberkesanan dan kecekapan menggunakan proses pengajaran berstruktur dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran penggantian. Proses pengajaran berstruktur (permainan kad berasaskan objek) dibandingkan dengan kaedah pengajaran konvensional dalam mempromosikan hasil pencapaian. Seramai 120 pelajar Sekolah Menengah Rendah yang terdiri daripada tiga sekolah di tiga zon pendidikan di negeri Lagos, Nigeria dan tiga guru matematik telah mengambil bahagian dalam kajian ini. Kaedah bercampur kuantitatif dan kualitatif digunakan dengan analisis varians ko-varians untuk menganalisis data. Tiga soalan  kajian digunakan dalam kajian ini. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kumpulan kawalan ujian pra dan ujian pasca. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa rawatan Permainan Objektif Pengajaran Berstruktur meningkatkan pencapaian responden kajian dari segi gred dan memperoleh lebih banyak pengetahuan berbanding dari kumpulan kawalan yang terdedah kepada kaedah konvensional. Keupayaan jantina dan akademik dalam kumpulan rawatan tidak menunjukkan hubungan yang signifikan ketika berinteraksi.Kata kunci: Pengajaran berstruktur, permainan berasaskan objek, model keperluan pelajar dan bentuk teknologi pengajaran, pengajaran pembelajaran, seks dan kemampuan

      Abstract: Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menguji kesahan dan kebolehpercayaan instrumen penerimaan e-pembelajaran bagi pelajar pascasiswazah dengan menggunakan analisis Rasch. Objektif kajian ini adalah mengukur instrumen dengan menggunakan ujian-ujian dalam analisis Rasch seperti polariti item, varians reja terpiawai, kebolehpercayaan dan juga peta taburan individu-item. Instrumen ini mengandungi 16 item yang menggunakan skala Likert lima mata dan berasaskan Model UTAUT. Soal selidik ini ditadbir atas 97 orang pelajar pascasiswazah Fakulti Pendidikan UKM Bangi. Program Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) versi 23.0 telah digunakan untuk memasukkan data dan membuat analisis statistik deskriptif sebelum dianalisis menggunakan program Winstep v3.68.2 untuk analisis Rasch. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan kesemua 16 item yang telah dibina memenuhi keperluan Model Rasch dan sesuai digunakan untuk mengukur penerimaan e-pembelajaran. Namun begitu, pembaikan item dari sudut pelarasan bahasa dan struktur ayat serta penambahan bilangan sampel yang lebih besar perlu dilakukan bagi meningkatkan lagi kesahan dan kebolehpercayaan item-item soal selidik ini di masa akan datang. Kajian ini juga menunjukkan bahawa analisis Rasch boleh membantu penyelidik memperbaiki soal selidik yang dibina secara telus dan sistematik. Kata kunci: Pembinaan instrumen, penerimaan e-pembelajaran, Model UTAUT, analisis Rasch, pengajian tinggi This study aimed to test the validity and reliability the instrument acceptance of e-learning by using the Rasch analysis. The objectives of this study is using tests in Rasch analysis likes item polarities, variences of standardized residuals, reliability and also the distribution map of individual items. This instrument contains 16 items using Likert scale of five points and based on UTAUT Model. The questionnaire was administered to over 97 postgraduate students from Fakulti Pendidikan UKM. Program Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23.0 was used for data entry and analyzed using descriptive statistics before using Winstep v3.68.2 programme for Rasch analysis. The finding showed that all the 16 items that have been built to meet the requirements and is fit using Rasch Model to measure the acceptance of e-learning. However, the repair item for angle adjustment of language and sentence structure as well as the addition of a larger number of samples need to be done to improve the validity and reliability of the items of the questionnaire in the future. The study also showed that the Rasch analysis can help researchers improve the questionnaire constructed in a transparent and systematic.Keywords: Instrument development, e-learning acceptance, UTAUT Model, Rasch analysis, higher education
