  • A Meta-Analysis of Interventions to Improve the Compliance of Students
           with Disabilities
    • Abstract: Noncompliance among children and adolescents remains a persistent concern for school professionals and is a frequent reason for referral for professional help (Bernal, Klinnert, & Schultz, 1980; Forehand, Gardner, & Roberts, 1978; McMahon & Forehand, 2005; Wilder, Harris, Reagan, & Rasey, 2007). Within the public schools, defiance was the most common type of office discipline referrals (ODRs) in the 2011–2012 academic year across elementary, middle, and high school levels. This finding was based on the examination of 4,407,677 total ODRs collected by 3,092 schools from 10 states using the school-wide information system (SWIS) database.     • Abstract: Across the United States, educators are seeking practical, effective strategies for supporting students with and at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) as these students exhibit a range of behaviors (e.g., externalizing and internalizing) that are detrimental to the students themselves as well as the classroom climate.            Achievement of Students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders
    • Abstract: In 2012, approximately 370,000 children and youth with emotional and/or behavioral disorders (EBD) received special education and related services under the label of Emotional Disturbances, representing less than one (0.5%) percent of the school-age population. This prevalence rate, which many consider to be a gross underestimate, has been a persistent concern (Forness, Freeman, Paparella, Kauffman, & Walker, 2011), especially given researchers estimate the true prevalence rate to be closer to 12% of all school-age children (Forness, Kim, & Walker, 2012).     • Abstract: Children as young as preschool-age with developmentally delays have shown social skill deficits and behavioral challenges (Crnic, Hoffman, Gaze, and Edelbrock, 2004). Early intervention for students with disabilities has shown to be beneficial over students' life span, including beyond the school-age years across academic, behavior, social, and quality of life domains (Karoly, Kilburn, & Cannon, 2005).     • Abstract: While some youth skate through adolescence with little uncertainty, for others, this developmental stage brings about tension and conflict as new found independence, changing peer groups, and pending transitions heighten emotional stress (Scales, Benson, & Roehlkepartain, 2011; Walker, Thorne, Powers, & Gaonkar, 2008).
